OPT finish Polish new formula on soft paint

Do you have your customers return in 5 days to apply their LSP?

No, but you already knew that.

I just wanted to see if the results are true if the OP has time. This is a test on HIS vehicle not a client. I mean...we all dog the "hacks" that fill or hide then after a wash you see that they didn't really "fix" anything. And if I'm right, it'd be good to know if you're sending people out the door with hidden haze.

I have a justification for the 5 day thing and just wanted to see if another independant could verify. If he doesn't want to of doesn't have time that's fine. I'm certainly not trying to flame another company so try not to read that into this...I'd just like to see the Menz in 5 days or so is all I'm saying.

I think this question about the 5 days thing would have been better asked through PM. Me reading this I only see "flame".

Chris, I assumed you would use a finishing pad with Finish Polish until I read your copied directions. It was a typo on your part which is understandable, I couldn't tell you how many times I have done that. :) If I was to perform this test, I would use a crimson ht pad with both products, a black pad with both products, and a blue pad with both products and compare all the results. However I do not have a vehicle with this type of paint at my disposal. You have my interest in the 5 day test.

Fair enough

Thanks for replying to my question

yes but the Crimson Hydrotech is a finishing pad as well.

Crimson is the finishing pad in the Hydrotech line up, however, the description also states it has a very light polishing/cutting ability. Now if you grab a gray/black or red/blue finishing pad (depending on line up), they are suppose to have no cut.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the cutting ability of the crimson pad combined with the DAT of 85RD finishes down great on your paint, and the cutting ability of the crimson pad combined with the SMAT of optimums Finish polish was possibly too aggressive to finish out on the same paint. If that holds true, a no cut pad with finish polish may compete with 85RD. I look forward to trying 85RD sometime just based on the reviews I have read on it so far, but I didn't get any ordered before winter rolled in so I won't be able to give a try this time around.

Having not read the directions on Finish Polish yet (no cut, low cut, ...), my current plan is try a section of tank with Finish Polish and Crimson Hydrotech. If that isn't aggressive enough to remove all of my swirls, I will try Polish II with Crimson Hydrotech and go from there with the intention of finishing out with Finish Polish and most likely a Black/Red CCS pad (no cut). If that doesn't finish well for me, I will follow TL's recommendation and pick up some UltraFine as I think I can get that locally and keep it from freezing like a brick. But if I can, I will stick to the OPT line up so I do not have to use IPA/Paint Prep....prior to opti-coat.

I do not think people were trying to attack you or your methods, I would say (at least in my case and assume others) it is more so a concern of a product not performing as expected and the no one wants that. I have several bikes that I plan to use Finish Polish on for the purpose of simplifying my opti-coat process and if you have concerns about how finish polish finishes out, so do I.

I have been having a tough time with white paint on my Mini Countryman S. Someone told me that it has a ceramic clear coat but im not sure about that, the paint seems soft to me, not hard.

I had been using Adams system on it, Swirl and Haze remover and Machine Polish with their matching pads.

I couldn't get a nice shine for nothing, I would work it slow, fast, little polish, lots of polish, pressure and no pressure but I couldn't get ride of the fine haze left by the polish (similar to your photos).

So I ordered what you used on your soft black paint (Crimson HC pad and 85RD) and I was wasting my time on MY paint with the Adams stuff. I spent about an hour on the whole drivers side and I couldn't be more pleased, no more haze!!!!

I did have great results with the Adams stuff on my wife's Lexus so I'll use it there but I'm so happy to have read what you used and have it work for me. Thanks.

My Mini's paint tonight with no wax as of yet.

I remember your post about FMP on the Adam's forums. I used it on black paint and I wouldn't completely wipe-off. I had to use CarPro Eraser to get it off. Weird stuff. The results weren't great either. :dunno:

The white look great!!! :props:

Yeah, I have become an Eraser user myself. It works great. I used it on the Mini and the Lexus.

As far as Adam's. I have some of about every product he sells and I really like them all and plan to keep doing so, I even have an Adam's window sticker in my car. But I just couldn't get the polish to finish out like it needed to on the Mini (Well, actually it worked great on the black MIni paint, just not the white).

I'm not sure if the Mez polish working with a finishing pad means I have soft or hard paint, does anyone else know what this would indicate?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I recently started using Adam's products, and I LOVE them! Detail spray, interior and leather cleaner, carpet and upholstery cleaner, APC, car shampoo, leather conditioner, and glass cleaner.

ok so i havnt got back around to testing with a black pad yet..it got real cold for a while..So last week I got some new Koni shocks for the car..i put them in but putting in the rears and leaning inside trunk for install my jeans put some light scratches in real bumper so i went out lastnight to fix it. I used Power finish on hydrotech tangerine then followed up with crimson and 85RD..so here is the kicker..after I did it with the tangerine pad and power finish there was pretty much NO marring and it was basically done..it finished down almost perfect. I was kinda surprised by that. I still followed up with the crimson and 85 but it was shocking to me that tangerine and power finish came out like it did. I was expecting it to look just like the Finish polish II looked i tested. Sorry I didnt take any pics as i wasnt out there doing a review I was just working on the car.

that's the power of dat on soft paint

I've done a few one steps using PF on orange LC flats. Comes out great on softer paints...

Wow thats a nice crisp reflection! Looks like you found your product!

Thanks for sharing your experience with Opt Finish. :props:

In my experience DAT polishes do typically seem to work best on super soft paints. That being said, with some tweaking of my technique and/or different pad types, I have been able to rival DAT polishes on my very soft Acura paint with SMAT polishes. It crazy how even changing finishing foam pads types nets a different end result.

I've used the new Opt polishes on a few cars now and I've been very happy with the results. However, if you are happy with the PO85RD then by all means stick with it....I know it will remain a staple in my arsenal! :props:

I would suggest being open to trying the Opt Finish a little more and adjusting your technique and/or trying a different pad...you may find they do work very well. While I would never expect a polish to be best on all paints, I will say the new Opt polishes have become my "go to" polishes for Opti-Coat jobs, as they save me a ton of time not having to worry about removing the polishing oils left behind, which is definitely something to consider.

Thanks again for the review! :)

Chad, how do you find the Opt Finish on harder clear like bmw's? Would you still use foam or maybe mf polishing pads?

I'm using a gg6

I tend to reach for foam pads when finishing. That being said MF should work well on harder clears like BMW. I've only done one BMW with the new formula Opt polishes, and I used the Hyper versions on that car. Not sure you'd need the Finish on hard clears either as the Polish II should finish down well on those paints.
