Opti-Coat 2.0 Question

Blackthorn's comment above actually has me a little worried now... Does O-C 2.0 have a tendency to cloud the paint?
I do not know what optical properties make a paint look wet. I doubt OC clouds paint. I have it on my windshield and it is perfectly clear.

I half about a 3rd of my car opticoated and I do not notice any cloudiness at all compared to coated and uncoated paint.

Well, in the pics it looks slightly cloudy to me and others who have used it say it is slightly cloudy as well. I have yet to use mine, though.

I guess if you've never seen it in real life, your opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

Well, as I said from the very beginning.. "In all of the pics I have seen with it on..." I only said I saw it in pictures.

No, we are talking about an extremely small change here. Although I have only seen pics of Opti Coat 1.0, and the product has changed, I doubt it has changed all that much. Rest assured, Opti Coat looks great, and is wonderful for a daily driver. I just would not use it on a Concours car, which is kind of what alko is talking about. My point was that I do not think that OC will ENHANCE the wet look over perfectly polished paint. Honestly, very few products do. It might not change the wetness very noticeably, but I simply cannot believe it will enhance it.

Your making this assessment from pictures? Really? I have OC 2.0 on my SUV and 2 sets of wheels, I see it daily in person and it doesn't cloud paint 1 bit. It gives paint a rich deep look IMHO. Many have applied it on glass with perfectly clear results. I also have it applied to eye glasses that are clear. If its cloudy looking it wasn't applied correctly or the surface itself has defects.

Ok let me rephrase my question...will Opti Coat have the same visual appearance as say a nice carnuba wax? I wanted to polish the car and put some sealant on it but I've read that you shouldn't have sealant on the car prior to Opti Coat.

OC doesn't look like wax. To me it gives paint a crisp, rich, look. You can't apply over anything else, but you can top it with whatever you like

Yea i read the same thing Alex.

I'm wondering if anyone has O-C'd their door jams and the engine bay? I was thinking about doing this, but was unsure if i'd have to leave the car doors, hood, and truck open for at least 24 hours?

Door jams, certainly. Painted portions under the hood, yes. Leaving them open for 1 hour is sufficient. I have done my side windows> I had to leave them cracked open when I did the top window edges.

I didn't do plastic and rubber under hood. I use other treatments. OC is not good for rubber.

I'm trying to convince my co-worker to pull the trigger on the oc. His paint is showing early signs of cc separation and he wants to salvage it as cheaply as possible. If it turns out good then I will offer it to the guy with the Audi. When you top it, it doesn't last long though, does it?

I think I would atleast do the door jams.

OC is awesome in my opinion. I still think a fresh coat of wax has a slighty better look to it, but wax looks good for about 2-3 months whereas OC lasts years and years. Take your pick. Either you like waxing your car every couple months or you don't.
OC is also thick enough to be measured with a guage, whereas most other waxes and sealants are such a microscopic layer they won't show up at all on a PTG. So I feel like it protects much better in the long run.

^^^ i love waxing my own two cars... but when the family starts asking for their cars to be detailed, suddenly all my summer weekends turn into detailing, i can't get any other work done around the house, or just fun chilling out time (bike riding, fishin... you know)... so besides my cars and my girl friend's car getting waxed, everyone else in the family will be getting a O-C 2.0 treatment....

Yea Alex, really under the hood i was thinking of doing the under part of the hood that's painted, the part of the rad support you can see, and the part where the struts attach. That's about it... i'd like to get the door jams, trunk jam, and the gas filler jam, as everyone knows that's one crevice not to many ppl clean and it can get dirty! :)

Thanks for the reply Big E...that actually puts it into perspective for me. I'll see about pulling the trigger. I'd like to do more research on it...mainly how it can be removed (if someone would want to remove it). I just started searching around on OC.

So Duck, you gonna pull the trigger on the oc?

Alex, i pulled the trigger on Wednesday night... Ordered O-C 2.0 and a 1 liter bottle of Eraser... 2 day shipping so it will be here Friday... After work Friday evening, i'll be washing, claying, polishing and if time permits i'll Erase and O-C all on Friday night... If i need to wait and wake up Saturday morning to finish, i'm 'ok' with it... I'll be doing the Accord this weekend. It's supposed to rain Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, so i'm going to try my hardest to get everything done Friday night, so the car can sit in the garage Saturday and Sunday and will be driven to work by my mother on Monday morning.

you can wet it after one hour, fully cured withing 12 hours

Fully cured after 12... do you think it would make any difference if i kept it in the garage for 36 - 48 hours compared to 12 hours?

Asking that because if there would be no difference, i would think about trying to detail and O-C their new Honda CRV this weekend as well, instead of doing it next weekend.

In all of the pics I have seen with it on, I would say no. It tends to make paint look very slightly cloudy from what I have seen. Based on that, it definitely will not ENHANCE its wetness. There is another 2 year coating I have seen that probably would, though, made by HD.

Sorry, I'm not sure what pics you're looking at but I've never noticed OC to be "cloudy" in pics or in person. I don't think it adds a lot to the paint in terms of look, but it definitely doesn't take away from it! If anything I think it gives a glassy look to the paint.

Nitro Seal is more of a sealant than a coating IMO.

Just a few of the cars I've done....

Wow Rasky! You O-C'd all those vehicles? Were they all done with O-C 2.0?

To bad you didn't live close to me... i'm very nervous with the o-c... don't want to ruin brand new paint. I know, everyone always says, just take your time and you'll be ok... but there is still some intimidation or something there that i know will be making me sweat as i'm applying the o-c.
