Opti-Coat 2.0 Question

Wow Rasky! You O-C'd all those vehicles? Were they all done with O-C 2.0?

To bad you didn't live close to me... i'm very nervous with the o-c... don't want to ruin brand new paint. I know, everyone always says, just take your time and you'll be ok... but there is still some intimidation or something there that i know will be making me sweat as i'm applying the o-c.

Those were all done with Opti-Guard.

This is the only one I've done using the 2.0 version, which is very easy to use BTW.

Thanks Rasky! Did you happen to O-C or O-G any of the vehicle's chrome exhaust tips? The two vehicles i'll be doing have chrome exhaust tips... i was thinking of O-C'ing them too.

Alex, i pulled the trigger on Wednesday night... Ordered O-C 2.0

SWEET!!! My co-worker said he's gonna go ahead and have me opti coat the car, so I'll probably be picking some up this weekend. Too bad you don't live closer, I'd help you out on the rides.

I did the chrome wheels on the Prowler and the trim on all of them, but I rarely do the exhaust tips.

Thanks Alex :).... Thanks Rasky....

so if O-C 2.0 can get wet after one hour... would keeping the vehicle in the garage (48 hours) and out of the rain this weekend be any more benficial to the coating than if i pulled the car out into the rain 5 - 8 hours after O-C'ing?

you can wet it after one hour, fully cured withing 12 hours

From speaking with chris through Pm's. If I remember correctly.

It is actually 90 days for full cure. Around 30 days or so where it will still bond with another coat.

1 hour to get it wet. 1 week before using any harsh chemicals.

thanks Jacob! I was planning on waiting about 7 - 14 days after the O-C, before giving the vehicles a wash.

Sorry, I'm not sure what pics you're looking at but I've never noticed OC to be "cloudy" in pics or in person. I don't think it adds a lot to the paint in terms of look, but it definitely doesn't take away from it! If anything I think it gives a glassy look to the paint.

Nitro Seal is more of a sealant than a coating IMO.

Just a few of the cars I've done....

Thank you very much for those pics, Rasky. You do phenomenal work. I am still of the same opinion after seeing those pics, though. Some I have seen before. Perhaps I did not articulate my view well enough. I do not believe that OC is as CRYSTAL CLEAR as say, opti seal and some other products. To me, not as crystal clear means somewhat cloudy.

It seems like a rather neutral shine to me, neither warm nor cold. Perhaps very slightly leaning to warm. It has a wonderful shine and luster and catches the light. It looks great, but it still looks a bit plasticky to me.

I am not against the product at all. I bought 4 syringes of it. It doesn't have the warmth of a nuba, and does not look as clear as Nitro Seal does, which, I agree, is just a durable sealant, and is certainly not a coating.

OC does not have a Concours look to me, so I would never put it on a garage queen, or on an all original collectible car. If I had a car that I drove regularly but I was super finicky about it's appearance, I would also not use it for that. However, for all daily drivers, or for a practical coating for someone else who isn't as picky as I am, sure. I will be using it to coat some carbon fiber bicycle parts, too. You can't expect a product to do EVERYTHING perfect. All that said, I am nevertheless a big believer in the product, but not for certain types of cars. I can see the plasticky look on all of the pictures you posted, but in fairness, the coating is clearer than I have seen in other pics, which is a testament to your prep and application, and perhaps an indictment of some other people's. No one on this forum, though.

Ok, so when i came home from work, my dad had already washed the whole car and rims with Dawn had it dried off and waiting for me in the garage...

We started claying around 3:30pm.... He helped me clay, then as i polished the car with a white LC flat pad with Hyper polish, he followed behind me wiping off the product.

We paused around 5:20pm for dinner (pizza) and then we began the wipe down with eraser (this stuff smells great! LOL).

After wipe down with Eraser i placed the supplied yellow foam pad in a latex glove and wrapped a blue shop towel around everything... squeezed a little O-C 2.0 on the show towel, said a prayer and began to coat the trunk deck, then proceeded to the coat the whole rear of the car. My father followed behind me with the supplied yellow MF towel and lightly 'knocked down' the panel i just treated, after waiting about a minute or two...

We proceeded to work our way around the car; my appling the O-C and my father following behind lightly wiping each panel... We coated the whole car, chrome pieces, hard black rubber, black plastic, tail lights and head lights... we did the rims and jams as well...

we had finished around 7:30pm... and had used about 9 cc's.... as i was attempting to twist off the blue plastic tip off the O-C syringe i accidently pressed the plunger down on the tool box and up squirted about 1 cc of O-C

so we still have about 10 cc's left to coat his new CRV next weekend... we were looking at the amount of coatable body work on the CRV compared to the Accord, and it looks like there might be less body work on the CRV so we should have enough O-C to finish the project.

In all, my father was so happy... He made several comments after we were completed that the paint looks way better than before we started, and this car is brand new... 36 miles on the OD.... He said it looks like one of those paint jobs guys pay $25K for on a classic car. I told him it was all due to the products we used...

he can't wait to get vent shades for both vehicles and a bug guard for the CRV...

All in all i would say i was way to worried about O-C'ing... this is sooo easy! I can def say that my 2010 Metallic Black Super Crew F150 will be getting a coating of O-C applied once i can either buy my own house which has a garage large enough to fit the truck, or i can find someone willing to let me keep my truck in their garage over a weekend.

O-C 2.0 = very easy application.... AS long as it lasts like the claims state. :dblthumb2::dblthumb2:

Oh yea, and i can't forget to mention how great it was to spend those hours in the garage tonight with my father and some oldies on the radio :)

I am glad you enjoyed the product. I did my Acura TL last year and it has been a great decision. My paint looks great after every wash. The beading is incredible. The OC will protect your investment.

You can always top it off, if you want, but my paint still looks great after a year.

Duck!!!! I'm glad to hear about this! I can't wait to do my co-workers car and I'm seriously considering this for my car. The only thing is, I'm a traditional paste wax type of guy and I still have a TON of Swissvax Concorso left. I know I can top the OC off but I don't think it would stay on long. I can't wait to see the results.

Arack, How well does you roof bead compared to the rest of you car?

My roof, even though I re-coated last week. Still doesnt seem to bead like my hood and fender does it tends to pool water vs tiny droplets. Could it be because the surface is more flat? Im just curious if you have noticed or not.

Thanks Arack... Alex, you'll love how easy it is to do... i too am a traditional wax person, but that's why i have my g/f's legacy and my DD civic :)

I've been following this thread and am glad your application went well. You will love how easy it is to maintain.

Thanks Chris!!! I have to admit, i'm a Duragloss man, however in the last year i've been buying Optimum products as well and now i can admit between Duragloss, Optimum, and Menzerna products, i feel like i can tackle any project... BUT i'm no pro detailer like most of the guys and gals on this forum :) .....

Chris - i do have one question... I have Hyper Compound, Hyper Polish, GPS, and Opti-Seal from your line... Out of the opti products i own, can i use any of them to 'clean' the O-C 2.0 on my parent's vehicles... say once a year or so? Just to 'clean' the O-C, but not remove it? Or should i never attempt to 'clean' the O-C? I guess what i'm asking is, is there any type of maintenance i should do to the O-C 2.0, say every year in the spring, which is when i usuallly polish and jewel all my vehicles?

It still beads really well. The best beading test is a heavy rainstorm. Leave you car outside for a while and you will notice it. The water will lay and bead heavily on top.

arack - i just gotta ask... I see you live in Western PA... Where at?
