Optimum Opti-Lens Headlight Coating - What YOU Should Know

Thanks. the headlight looks amazing, I would have expected that to take some sanding and a lot more time.

I'm hoping this can eventually prove worthwhile to use on dealer cars as well, rather than another finish like spar which I've used in the past. It usually works well but sometimes I've gotten frustrated by streaking.

I saw a video showing the use of this and counted the drops of Opti-Lens used on 1 lens. That person used approximatel 12 drops. Is that in line or excessive?

I think in another thread I saw interesting recommendations for wrapping a foam pad in plastic then covering the plastic with a blue shop towel. Sounds like a great to make it last.

Here in Hawaii, the UV index is crazy. My wifes headlights are working on almost a year with opti-lens and are like brand new still. Every other option I tried on her lights lasted anywhere from 30 days to 3 months at most.

Spray on clear coating isn't a perfect option either.. it WILL take you more time to apply, you run the risk of overspray, and the clear coat can de-laminate over time making your next restore that much harder.

I think 12 drops is a lot.. i probably use around 6-8, on first light and 4-5 on 2nd and feel as if i'm over-applying. I try to apply my drops all in a small area on a yellow foamie pad, and use just that area to spread around the product.
 
What is shelf life of opti-lens

I have one opened back in August and wondering how long it stays useable once I open the seal

I opened the last syringe in August. Put it in a ziplock bag and keep it in the house. It is all gel'd up now.

I find the difficulty with the syringes is that it's hard to tell when the cap is all the way down, being that you don't want to over-twist it since it's plastic. Then if you get a little product crusted up in the threads, it gets even harder to turn and harder to tell/see if it's all the way seated (the Luer-Lok® is kind of an interference fit so it requires a bit of force to close it all the way even when it's clean).

Did you purge the excess air out of the syringe before you stored it and is the black cap all the way down to the bottom of the nose on the syringe?

I did purge the air. I 'believe' I got the cap as tight as possible.. But it's hard to know 100%.
 
I just started reading this thread. I was wondering Nick, what are the headlights like now or do you still have the car?
 
Can you apply the Opti-Lens coating on top of XPEL ppf applied to the headlights? The goal being protection from rock dings via the film, and protection from UV rays via the Opti-Lens coating.
