OVERATED: Which Products In Your Opinion?

micro-restore > DP MF cleaner (by a lot)

I just picked up some Micro-Restore and am unimpressed. I've been using regular liquid clothes detergent and occasionally adding a cup of vinegar to the rinse to remove soap residue and act as a natural softener. I've been amazed at how clean the MFs were coming out and thought it had something to do with the properties of the towels. After using Micro-Restore at the recommended dosage for real dirty towels (and these weren't excessively dirty, mostly WW drying towels and some used for QD and ONR) the towels didn't come out nearly as clean as using regular detergents. The softness and texture of the MF appeared unchanged with no real improvement. I rewashed using detergent and all the crud Micro-Restore left on the towels came out.

Does vinegar have a "reaction" to the Microfiber material? I'm worried about it affecting the MF properties. Is it still ok?

Yeah, Vinegar sees MF and goes "F YEAH!" .. then they go on a date and come home clean and soft.

Vinegar is a natural fabric softenerr and it removes built up soap residue. I've never seen any adverse effects on any type of fabric. I pour it in with the rinse and run through a 2nd rinse cycle to make sure the vinegar is rinsed out.

First time I used it was on some old, low quality WWs that were getting stiff. Came out as soft as they were originally.

Yep, that's pretty much it... in a kind of twisted way. :D

Well I had a whole story about the date and some coital activity but I figured there are some children on the board that might not understand just yet. :props:

dang, i've been using 1oz for towels that don't have legitimate dirt on them, just detailing products, and 2oz for dirtier towels. i use warm/hot water and the smallest load size. i let it agitate on the medium setting halfway through a long cycle (8 minutes out of 16), then i let them soak for 10-20 minutes. then i hit the button again let it finish agitating and then the two rinses and they come out awesome for me. very clean and very soft and most important to me is very simple.

the key for me has definitely been letting them soak in the middle of that agitation cycle. looking deeper into it, since you've had no success with it vs. what i've seen: is the water going to your house hard or soft water? that can have a lot to do with it too - my water is treated with two side by side softener and filter systems (well water) and detergents in general react very well to it. if you ever have one of those song and dances done by the franchise water treatment people, you'll hear them talk about how you have to use less soap/detergent when washing clothes/dishes/yourself...that's actually true (even though i used a local privateer for my system ; )

incidently what detergent are you using and how much for a load where you'd use 2 oz of the micro-restore?

2 grains hard, which is pretty soft.

Liquid All or Tide, usually use an oz or so. The WWs had the usual smudges from drying around rocker panels, nothing very dirty at all. Some of the utility MFs were used with ONR and wiping road grime off the bikes using ONR at QD+ strength. They never come totally clean because they've been used and abused. However, with the 2 oz Micro Restore wash they looked like they'd never been washed. Rewashing 'em with detergent resulted in much better results.

odd, but i'm glad the shelf stuff works well for you! makes life easier than ordering bottles.

Liquid Tide and a dash of Dawn for microfiber wash, then vinegar for second rinse > any "dedicated" microfiber wash solution

i always thought most laundry detergents had fabric softeners in them and were not ideal for MF.

PB soap- using it as directed (1oz to 2 gallons of h20) and it wasn't slick feeling at all and no I don't have super hard water. I was quit surprised at how unimpressed I felt using it. Every one says it's just as good/slick if not better/slicker then OP soap but it failed to live up to it's rep. I'll try again soon but I'm not expecting anything slicker/better. It did however clean the paint (no water spots either) which is why I wanted/bought it for. But even at a discounted price it was more expensive then OP and not as slick feeling.

Never had issues with basic liquid tide. MF come out super soft and still just as grabby as before, stain and residue free.

I've used regular tide for years and have not had an issue with MF's.

No problems with Tide here either. I do have and use both Pinnacle and DP Microfiber cleaner but if i happen to run out I have no problems using Tide. Sometimes I'll even mix tide with the MF cleaners.

been using liquid tide for years with no problems, just open the cover on the last rinse cycle and see if there is still some soapy water and if so, do another rinse cycle...

I don't even do that. My wash is full auto.... I literally throw the mf's in the washer, add tide, push start. I don't peek in there till it's done and ready to be thrown in the dryer.

That's the same thing I do mostly because I would forget to stop it at the rinse cycle unless I was standing there the whole time. Heck chances are that I would forget even if I'm sitting on the washer.

What about Woolite?
I'm a newb, but for the past few month's thats what i've been using and my MF's seem fine (just as soft as new)? I also let my MF's airdry??

I don't see why it wouldn't work just as long as it doesn't contain a fabric softener. I toss mine in the dryer and have yet to run into any issues.

I really think this is one of those subjects that people seem to over think.
