pad cleaning

I like pinnacle xmt pad cleaner. Works great!!!!!

Spray into pad work into pad with rubber gloves on an rinse with water... repeat if it is necessary but usually not.

Pinnacle swirl remover, orange pad, and pinnacle carnauba finishing glaze blackpad

+1 on the xmt. I also use Micro Restore pad cleaner in a bucket. Works well too for pads

The best stuff out there is BlackFire pad cleaner IMHO. You can also use APC.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the downside of washing microfiber and pads with laundry detergent in the washing machine? Because of my stubbornness and denial, I've not considered doing it any other way other than the washing machine with detergent.

I think the pads last longer cause they don't get beat to death with agitation Seems to me the backing comes off much sooner running through washing machine.... but all that agitation also cleans well too.

Do what works for you.

For compounds and polishes, I use Wolfgang Pad Cleaner.

For waxes/glazes, Tide works better.

Put it under the sink and rinse it while 'pressing' with your fingers and palm, 'scrubbing gentle while squeeze' from center to outer edges (sorry, difficult for a brazilian to describe this is english!).

After rinsing it well, get a bar NEUTRAL soap, or coconut bar soap, without harsh additions, neutral.

Pass the soap over entire face of the pad, use plenty, but don't need to go crazy about it.

Now, 'work the soap' with your hands and fingers, the same way you rinsed (pressing from center squeezing to edges).

You can 'work each CCS dot' with your fingertip, or you can use your pad brush as well.

After 'soap has been worked', put the pad again under de sink and rinse it plenty, while doing the same movements (squeezing from center...) now to remove all soap residue.

At the end, squeeze the best you can with your palm, 'shake it once or twice' to get rid of excess water, and put it over something like a 'grit guard' with foam face down, velcro face up until it dries.

Or you can put it over a MF / Cotton towel with face down to help drying as well.

Hope that helps,

*sorry for the explanation, really difficult to find the words!

Kind Regards.

You literally don't need to buy all these fancy pad cleaning products like xmt , blackfire pad cleaner etc. Spray your pad thoroughly with an APC until it is dripping and massage it into the pad. Then rinse it under a sink or spray it with a hose. Then just spin it dry on your polisher.

IME APCs leave much more foam in a pad than designated pad cleaners - so they rinse out much easier with pad cleaners. This is why I don't recommend using DAWN or whatever is in your kitchen - because the stuff is quite hard to get out of pads 100%.

While it's easier to say "you don't need to buy this stuff" - if you've ever compared a dedicated pad cleaner, like BF to APC - you would see the BF stuff rinses out easier and just cleans better.

I have to say, I am tempted to buy a dedicated pad cleaner but always opt for something else in its place. Maybe, AG should place some on BOGO to advertise the product better and lure in lurkers. No matter which chemiical you use, I feel the most important step in keeping a pad clean is to immediately soak them once switching to a new pad to keep any product from drying in the center of the pad, thus reducing future dusting.

depends on what washer and what cycle you put it on as to how they get cleaned.

if you have a top load and stick it on the heaviest duty cycle for heavy soiled jeans and such, you could possibly damage them from the agitation. on the other hand, using delicate setting and letting it move slower will still get them clean from the water movement, without the fear of damaging too much.

also, if its a front load it just tumbles them mostly. no fear of agitation there.

I want to thank everyone for the tips, suggestions, and advice. Today i used the pc for the firstime time I my life! As I was cleaning up and putting my gear awayou I knew my job was not done until I cleaned my pads. I think I'll put them in the washer on gentel cycle as I've done with my mf towels and let them air dry. As a newbie I should have thought ahead and just ordered a couple more in case I needed them.

Exactly. ... I got a few bottles of the xmt pad cleaner for free and it works great.

I definitely would buy it knowing how well it works.. a small bottle cleans a lot.

The stuff rinses out very easily.

I run my through the washing machine (front loader) using the same washing LIQUID (not powder) that I use on all my MF towels. Make sure it is not on a 'heat' cycle as I am sure that could interfere with the glue on the backing.

I have been doing this for ages and have not had any problems (*touches wood*)
