I’ll say it is interesting how social media content creators (influencers, YouTuber’s, et al) have been able to monetize their “fame” by creating and selling products due to the success of others. Forum members here at least recognize this and can make their own choices on whether they want to participate in the shilling that is now rampant online. I am an audiophile and have interest in the portable audio hobby. It is the same and perhaps worse over there.
Another trend that is troubling to me is brands over packaging their products to create an “unboxing experience” for the consumer. Fancy plastic bottles, labeling, and unnecessary packaging are all used as a means to charge a premium price. Not to single out any manufacturer in particular, but Gyeon is guilty of this in my view. There are many others. This has nothing to do with the products performance (and in the case of Gyeon many of their products are very good) but is simply a means to increase margins and profitability. It’s car wash soap (or a coating, or tar remover, or a towel) for god’s sake, not a Rolex watch. I don’t need an unboxing experience for my car detailing chemicals and tools. Just my 2¢.
