Pan the Organizer product line...let's discuss@

The more I hear the name House of Rags, the more it sounds like a rip off of Rag Co.

I remember when Rag co. 1st came on the scene, I wasn’t really a fan, I still haven’t ordered anything from them, but with DJ Khaled ripping off their name as if he couldn’t think of another word besides “rag” I suddenly gained a bit more respect for Rag co.

Once upon a time the term “rag” was frowned upon in the world of detailing the same way using anykind of sponge was.. Suddenly rags are cool and sponges are the safer than plush mitts. Are we in Bizarro world or what the heck? Lol.

The way I understand it, when TRC came onto (our) scene was way after the company was started, in their initial incarnation they were a bulk supplier to car washes, etc., where they use "rags". Later they saw the boutique market as more lucrative, although you can still see they sell in bulk quantities.

It's a funny evolution/cycle. When I joined detailing forums 20 years ago, I found out I could no longer dry my car using my Fieldcrest cotton towel blems I had gotten at Macy's for half price, nor my car wash sponges from the auto parts store, I had to use waffle weave microfibers and wool mitts.

Then in a few years, suddenly you had to have plush terry drying towels and use a grout sponge. Then we got into a variety of microfiber wash media, including plain old MF towels. Then TRC popularized "hybrid" drying towels, with the plush mixed with waffle (Pluffle, then Gauntlet), and we're back to sponges.

I realized quite a while ago this is just a "fashion" thing to get you to keep buying stuff, just like clothes. So yeah, rags and sponges.

Not a lot different from MicrofiberTech.com and Autofiber.Com

Same company, same address, same warehouse, etc, confirmed by one of the nice ladies that work there

I ordered from Microfibertech for several years before I was ever aware of Autofiber, and Microfibertech still sells some core microfiber detailing stuff but it is Autofiber who came to the forefront with the Scrub Ninja and all the other auto dedicated towels, etc

I don't know when or how they came to be as 2 entities, but seems they have made a name for themselves

TRC still doesn't ship to Hawaii or Alaska so I generally don't even bother looking at their stuff or getting worked up over all their "paradigm changing" products

I was going thru my old receipts. The Rag started with a few dozen microfibers in various quantities.

Another name jumped out, Ranney at Pakshak.

The way I see it, the MFT/Autofiber thing is a bit different...when I came to Autopia 20 years ago, Autofiber was the domain MFT used to approach us detailers. A few years after that, I guess they decided multiple domains was too much and they folded the detailing stuff into Microfibertech which also included janitorial stuff and mops, etc. More recently (well not that recently), perhaps due to TRC, they resurrected the Autofiber domain and started to put products on there that are not available at MFT, as well as starting to add some non-microfiber stuff, which has been extended even further at their newest domain, SuperDetail.

Who knows, MFT may even have other domains I don't know about, back when David B owned Autopia, we would frequently find other forums and associated stores he had (I think he had a Lexus forum and a store attached, which of course sold Sonus products).

Man, your encyclopedic knowledge of the business side of the detailing supplies world never ceases to amaze me

You know where all the bodies are buried

I had never heard of SuperDetail, and I had no idea Autofiber came, went, and came back

I bow to your superior knowledge

Amazingly I’m still using towels that I purchased from Pakshak what seems like a very long time ago.
Interior use only.

Honestly I don't think I ever used any of my PakShak towels, I bought a sampler once or twice to see what the fuss was about, they are buried somewhere along with more new towels than I will ever use. Part of that is of course that I have never been able to "wear out" any of the towels I've bought.

At some point I messed around with things like how much dirt/dust I could "push" with a waterless wash, and what/how much is wicked by towels. I had no clue what I was doing, but my very naive (and perhaps incorrect) conclusion was that technique is more important for safely removing contaminants than choice of wash media.

So basically... people should just use whatever you like that does the job to their standards.

Me too. I bought towels on sale expecting to wear out my most used towels... haven't replaced anything unless i've dropped it.

I am using Pak Shack towels 15 years later

They work just fine since they haven't been abused and have been properly cared for

My old waffle weave drying towels were still working fine after about 15 years when I sold out my arsenal when we left Hawaii

I screwed up when I ordered new drying towels from Carzilla and mistakenly got super heavy plush towels instead of twisted weave, and guess what?

They actually absorb water and dry a car
