Plasti-Dip? Anyone using this method?

You need to respect one rule with plasti-dip.. Don't be cheap... If you use just 1-2 coat.. The result won't last.. And when you will try to peel it off.. You will want to die! 4 layer minimum! But great result if it's what you want to have like finish!

:iagree:

I tried to be cheap. I'll be redoing my fogs this weekend.

I've done wheels, badges and the fog housing and it's extremely easy to work with. Also, someone mentioned taping off everything because of not having much luck peeling up the over spray. The trick to this for me was just taping off a square around the emblem. As long as you fill in inside the tape you'll have a hard edge to grab and peel up. If you just try to spray over it without at least taping off a square you'll be cleaning up over spray forever!

Plasti dip is quite fun If u apply it right I did my BMW grill 7 coats let ea coat dry for ab 10-15 mins n I'm happy looks solid matte look I'm happy was easy cheap gave car a nice. Custom look and eventually did whole front bumper up to te headlights bumper had a lil sand blasting so few even costs gave a lil protective coating and looked clean n sharp against a calypso rot metallic red paint , happy dippin'

Works good. Covers well. Peels off easily. Make sure you tape well though. I have had no luck 'peeling' off the overspray as this area is not an even/thick enough coat to peel off easily like your target area.

any clay bar cleaning system will take the overspray right off or you can lay plastic down ahead of time to avoid it all together

Love this stuff! Just did my wheels and emblems and I think it came out great!

I've use it quite a bit on the exterior of my car. I have done my wheels in white, those turned out great, just got dirty VERY fast with Ferodo ds2500 brake pads.

I also did my entire car (sprayed too thin) in Navy blue, and then decided I didn't like that color, so I peeled it, which took days of my wife and I peeling little chunks and rubbing our thumbs raw, but it eventually all came off. I then sprayed it a custom pearl mix of 50g deep purple pearl, and 50g electric blue pearl mixed in 1 gallon of glossifier, and 1 gallon of matte clear over 4 basecoats of black. All in all about 7 coats. Like everyone has said, mask off well.

I pulled my tape after the last layer was sprayed and still tacky, and as I pulled, I went along the edge with an Xacto knife to avoid pulling up the dip.

The Blurple lasted great through the summer and a road trip from Seattle, WA Los Vegas, NV to Pensacola, FL, to Groton, CT, and then once I got here, I backed in to my garage door, and replaced it, and peeled the whole car. It took about 20 minutes to peel the whole car, and I could have taped it together and made a shell of my car.

Moral of the story, spray 2 thin coats, and then thick coats. I waited about 30 minutes between coats, pretty much painted nonstop going around the car in a circle, spray the roof, then start over. Also, I noticed somebody asked about putting on a coat of wax before dipping something, that is the exact opposite of what you want to do, All wax MUST BE STRIPPED before spraying stuff or it will NOT stick. I used pre-dip spray when I did the blurple, and 93% IPA when I did the wheels, and the Navy blue dip jobs.

Nanoskin Bubble Bath, 2 buckets no grit guards, microfiber wash mitt.

I didn't dry it, never touched it with a microfiber towel.

The last few times I washed it, I actually used interior Armorall supreme shine spray, and the shine was improved greatly, and the texture was improved as well so it wasn't grippy any more, but slick instead, and if I was to do another plastidip job, I would use the interior spray to clean it.

Most importantly, DO NOT USE PAStE WAX ON PLASTI-DIP! It smears, and looks terrible. That is one of the reasons I peeled the Navy Blue, other than that I thought it made the car look cheap.

Color: Anthracite.

Coats: 5 coats color, 2 coats glossifier.

Distance: pretty darn close! I would go as close or closer than they recomend...if you are too far away the finish sort of 'fuzzes' up and looks well, like fuzzy.

Overall, I am super happy with the results as well as the low cost fun I had doing it!

Exactly what I'm looking for. I have faux 2 piece wheels and I just want to do the centers of the wheels and keep the lip with a polished look.

I love that Anthracite. Just got some to do my wheels and emblems this weekend.

Sizzle any chance you got pictures or your emblems? Did you do Anthracite on those too?
