Porter Cable 7424XP

The 5.5 is preferable to the 6.5 pads simply as they can be worked in more areas than the larger pads. With that said there willbe some areas you need to be careful of as you'll be in edges and transitions.
As far as the cleaner and conditioner, get the cleaner on sale simply because it's cheaper and conditioner's are pretty optional, As someone else said just prime the pads with the product you are using, I spritz some Distilled water on the pad for it's first use and prime with the polish or lsp.
I'd also say the pads recommended by others is a good start, 2 orange, 2 white, 2 black should cover most situations to start. What size vehicle are you doing as 2 pads might not be enough for a large vehicle especially if you use the ccs pads (which I have) they tend to get filled with trapped residue much easier.

Go with the GG i bought the PC because it was at lowes and am very sorry i didn't just order a GG and wait for it to come. Damn my need for instant gratification LOL. Im sitting here waiting for my AG order like a crackhead waiting for his dealer. Anyways the PC is a good machine but there are alot of time when i just wish i had the power of the GG although the flex would be nice but thats very pricey lol.

I think you were warned about this addiction!

I'm newbie here on Autogeekonline, many opinion about DA polisher in this thread but if you have had PC 7424XP it will work just fine, with the right technique and the right product, you surely can be successful in detailing your car.
About the BP and pads, I prefer to use 5"BP and 5,5" pad because it will make the PC rotate easier than the bigger pad. (the smaller pad will make PC rotate easier!!!)
About the pads, I prefer to have Orange, White, Black LC pads for the start, once you know how to detail for the first time and succeeded, try to buy some more ammo to your inventory. That's what I thought Im the MAN
People here on autogeekonline will provide you the things you want to know clearly, but in the end it's up to you to choose what you think is the right for you.
Anyway you come to the right place here on Autogeekonline.
Great people here on Autogeekonline :dblthumb2:

:iagree:here ya go

groits da
megs mf 5.5 starter kit
3" bp
3"cutting disk
3"finish disk

265.00 use code AGO gets ya free shipping

and your ready to go!

Excellent advice!

That is a GREAT combo to get you started removing swirls and polishing paint.
My only addition (as above) would be to add 6) 5.5" flat pads orange/white/black
This gives you the ability to use other polish, wax, and sealant products as well.
Now that's the hardware and software. Then you will need training and practice.

I agree 100%!

As I have stated before...
I prefer the GG for correction and the PC for finishing but they both will do the job & work fine!
The GG or PC are both "safe" and will get the job done in combo with the Megs DA MF system.

I would consider this a "show car" finish on a black hood. This was done with just a PC7424xp.

If you want better, then you will also need a rotary and many years of training and practice.
Yes, a rotary is much faster, risky, more expensive and takes many years to learn and master.

My last question which is probably stupid but will any backing plate fit in the GG? JW because my dad owns a part store and I can get many different brands from him.

as long as its designed for a da style polisher.

If you are going to use the Megs DA MF system use the Megs backing plate.

So I noticed people have recommended the 3" kit also. Is that just to get in smaller spots or can I do my entire car with the 5"? I really don't want to spend even more because I'm at the limit with everything else I'm getting.

I haven't used the MF system, but the 5.5" lake country pads rotate fine with the PC 7424XP and I perfer to use it over the griot's. I was only commenting on OP's choice between the 2. Since I have both machines I thought I would share my thoughts.

Wouldn't the G110v2 have the edge with regards to power for rotational torque? I mean it does have the electronic circuit that applies more power when it detects the tool bogging down...

I haven't used it or the GG polisher, but I'm really waiting for the Meg's unit to become available again because I think it'll be my unit of choice. The PCXP felt unimpressive to me -- the large(r) case isn't as comfortable to hang on to as the original PC.

Really nice!!!!!!! My first thought was "Damn"! :dblthumb2:

Just ordered my polisher for $107 through autogeek. Price matched another website but wouldn't allow me to use a discount code for the rest so I'm holding off on the other stuff.

What polisher did you decide to order?

Did you get the Megs 5" DA MF kit?
It comes with

5" backing plate
5.5" cutting discs
5.5" finishing discs
DA MF D300 compound
DA MF D301 finishing wax
and a Meguiars detailing apron

Good news the DA MF stuff does not splatter.
So you really don't need the apron to stay clean.
But you will look kewl wearing it when you polish cars.

I got the GG polisher for $107. I didn't order pads or anything yet. Would you recommend the megs da mf kit over getting the lake country DA 5" backing plate, 6 pack of flat pads (2 orange, 2 white, 1 black, 1 blue) and the pinnacle xmt pad care combo?
