Removing Wax off Matte Black Paint

I have a matte black truck the paint shop said it would be ok to put wax. So I tried a small area and it was fine so I did my hood and I went to remove the wax and it will not come off.

It just left white marks all over the hood. How can I get this off ????

:dunno:

A) Apply more of the same product to the infected area and wipe off before it has a chance to dry

B) Wash the car with a heavy APC mix

That body shop gave you bad advice

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

Do not wax matte paint!

* Question tho, what about a clear sealant or coating like opti-seal or opti-guard? hmm...

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

I wonder if some IPA and a pressure wash will make it come off. The bad thing is that if you scrub too hard it will leave marks.

You should tell the paint shop to stop giving that advice to people

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

You could use Swissvax Opaque paint cleaner followed by Opaque wax. Works well on the hood and wing of a 70 cuda I detail for shows.

Take it back to the body shop and tell them to re-paint it for giving you bad advice.

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

why would you want to wax flat paint? its suppose to look flat not shiny, wax will add shiny-ness to flat paint. So far, the only thing ive seen that keeps flat paint "flat" is cquartz

I was thinking the same thing!!

Exactly Mark, exactly!

What a bunch of dopes to give out this kind of advise!!

My guess it he wants to apply something in order to protect the paint..

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

Body shops have no idea what they are talking about

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

I've had good luck with Zymol Carbon on flat surfaces, it won't turn them white, but it does add some shine. I found it worked great on Jeep hardtops. As always, test first, go nuts later...lol.

:iagree:

These Swissvax products are the most prominent so far in the care of matte black paint. Dr. Beasleys also has some. 3M/Meguiar's can't be far behind.

All are quite pricey...but that may be a 'hitch in your giddy-up' for having matte black paint. :)

Also, no car wash shampoos that have any "wax/gloss enhancers" for washing/cleaning matte black paint.

Sorry to hear of your mishap... :(

It would be very cool to have some pictures showing the staining effect as a way to help others to avoid this issue into the future.

Can you take some pictures like I show below and e-mail them to me?

Send to, [email protected]

Get on a stool or ladder or something, position the car in lighting that doesn't wash out the hood, and then snap a few pictures. Be sure to frame up the hood so everything is squared up as much as possible.

A shot like this,

That would be very cool if you could do this...

This is a dilema...

Flat matte paint has a texture to it and the white color is residues that have lodged "into" the textured surface. Convincing the residue to leave will be difficult without at the same time scratching or marring the paint.

Two options,

Dissolve the residue out
Scrub the residue out

Neither are good. It's possible you might be able to dissolve the residue out using something that is made for removing wax and grease off body panels but it's not really a product made for removing wax and grease off a "finished part" AND with the goal of making the part look good.

The product is called Klean-Strip, Prep-All, looks like this,

The bodyshop that gave you the bad advice might even have some as this is a body shop product.

If it were me, I would take GREAT pictures of the damage just to document what happened. Possibly go back to the body shop with this thread printed out, and show the owner or manager what the effect was from their advice and the part in here about using Prep-All to remove it and see if they'll do it for you.

That way they'll see the huge problem they caused and if rubbing Prep-All makes it worse it will be them that did the "further" damage to the damage they already helped to cause.

You could also try scrubbing the wax residue off using something like a microfiber wax applicator pad as this will provide some gentle scrubbing action together with something that can dissolve wax residue but not dissolve car paint.

Mothers Ultra-Soft Microfiber Applicator Pads

Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Polish Applicator

Without seeing the damaged hood in person or without really good pictures it's hard to say for sure but my best guess is that trying to scrub the residues off with some type of material and chemical won't work and if it does work it's going to mar the finish to the point that you're never going to be happy until it's repainted.

Just a guess...

Now we know better:

But I'd bet these "bodyshop-guys" probably had 'passed-down-knowledge' from relatives, that:

"Back-in-the-good-ol'-days", used Wildroot Cream Oil for their Da haircuts, had their pegged-jeans' cuffs rolled up a notch, had a pack of Lucky Stripes rolled up in their T-shirt sleeve, had horse-shoe taps on their George boots, and headed into town in their freshly WD-40'd rat-rod....just knowing for sure that was what the chicks really dig.

Note: Please don't ask how I know about this. :D

He'll be here all week folks...

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

mike / all - would washing the hood a few times in Dawn dish soap with a microfiber application help disolve the white residue from the hood?

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

Try Dupont Prep-Sol. It's made to remove wax etc. prior to painting. Try on a small area first to make sure paint has cured enough.
