Removing Wax off Matte Black Paint

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

mike / all - would washing the hood a few times in Dawn dish soap with a microfiber application help dissolve the white residue from the hood?

I would think so...

That and a sheepskin wash mitt, or chenille wash mitt, something that offers some gentle scrubbing action.

The problem is while it might remove the majority of the residue, enough might remain to cause a visual stain.

Water, and lots of it tends to soften and dissolve most materials, think of a newspaper in the rain... the problem with car wax is the protection ingredients are not water soluble.

The detergent soap can and will help to break down and emulsify the wax residue but historically with issues like this it's hard to remove 100% of the staining effect.

Kind of like the problem with wax residue on black, pebble textured plastic trim. If you get wax on the trim you can get "most" of it off but from what I've seen in my life, there's always enough residue that remains to cause a white stain.

If I were moody909, I would definitely try washing with a detergent wash and see if that works as that's a very non-aggressive option. If it doesn't work no harm will have been done.

After that a person could start getting more aggressive with their soap or chemical products, like try a citrus based wash, or ?????

There's lots of products we carry that are made to dissolve things... it's just a matter of finding the right product that will do so safely.

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

Thanks Mike... i just wanted to pose my opinion as a question first, as i did not want to be giving 'bad advice'. :)

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

Yea I know I was so mad that the guy said it was ok to wax it. And he said he wax it too but I think he was lying. The only reason I wax it was because I was taking it on a road trip and I wanted to protect it. I have try dawn soap like 4 times. Also try chemical guys soap that removes wax did not work. Then I tried adding more and wiping it off be for it drys nothing. Tried the 3m wax remover nope same thing. Then some one said rubbing alcohol so I try a small spot and it worked but idk if it's ok to use on the paint.. Also I got a matte detailer from cg (chemical guys) they said it should work and nope. I spent all this time and money on thing and nothing yet. Beside the rubbing alcohol. I am kind of regretting what I did I just wanted to protect it.

This is against this forum's rules, but I hope they make an exception for your problem....Just wanting to help you protect your investment.

@OP moody909:
Try to get your hands on this stuff....It's expensive, though.

Swissvax USA: Matt Paint Finish Care

Or (not as expensive but still pricey):

Matte Car Care Products | Dr. Beasley's Car Care Products

Or, as others have mentioned:

KleanStrip's Prep-All
DuPont's Prep-Sol

Hope that these suggestions will be of help. :)

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

sorry about braking the rules i am just so lost

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

That matte detailer from CG won't remove the wax there, no, but it still a product you can use later down the road without a problem.

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

Windex works good at cleaning matte paint.

I fixed flat blue on a Harley, that a guy had waxed.

Ammonia based windex, it's even in the Harley manuel

Good luck!

All I gotta say is...don't ever ask anybody who works at a body shop how to maintain your paint. They won't know. BUT, they LOVE to pretend they know.

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

Moody sent me a picture of the wax problem on the flat black paint on his car...

Ouch...

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

I guess I'm just old, but I don't get the flat paint on the whole car thing...or the black wheels for that matter.

Re: Wax will notcome off my truck

^^^^

i love metalic black paint and chrome wheels.... but with certain vehicles flat black can be nice... i saw a z06 in flat black with purple and blue ghost flames with powder coated stock rims... Really looked nice IMO...

Me too, it looks like a clunker that someone rattle canned. In fact I can't imagine spending serious coin on a matte paint job. I want eye blinding bling!
