Rupes vs. Flex vs Rotary

I currently have a "chinese" 15mm that cost me $120 and it works GREAT!! I use the washer mod. I can get more cut with it using a MF cutting pad than my 3401 with a wool pad. Yes, you have to pay more attention to technique to keep the pad spinning with the 15mm(any non-forced DA), but the cut/finish is just awesome! With the 3401, you could probably get through a detail faster because pad stall is not an issue, but, you will not get as good of cut/finish as a long throw DA. JMO.

Rupes outcuts 3410 it hs proven several times. Rotary on wool is agressive but so is Rupes with the mf. Rotary+foam wont beat Rupes+mf. They are all great machines and each has itd own strenght and minuses.

To me, my first machine a long time ago (over 20 years ago) was a Porter Cable 74something did more for me than the Rupes. Sorry Rupes lovers.
Many of you people that agree that the Rupes stalls, the Flex never stalls and never stalling is working. If you are too scared to use a rotary the Flex 3401 is it and it will never stall.
As I mentioned before in this post Im not here to argue about the machines. Its all about those that are trying to make a choice on which machine.
I would recommend a Rupes to someone that feels they must apply wax with a machine.
I am getting ready to wet sand my white Porsche (orange peel is not bad, will start with 1500) and I am going to see if the Rupes works at that. I have a feeling it will stall at that and hand will be much better but I am going to try

This guy must be a troll lol, i think the same guy trolls in youtube and instagram too lol. Yes you can make Rupes stall buy you can also avoid that with the right technique. I have polished p150 sanding marks with Rupes easily. Also when it comes to Rupes 21, the correction is 70% from the oscilation, so even if you make it stall for split second, it still does correction.

We call them Chupes

I do a lot of work at body shops so I do a lot of wet sanded cars. I use Rupes 21 MKII with Megs MF pad and Shine Supply Chop top and it comes out flawless every time.

It doesnt even spin. I'm pretty sure if I tied the machine down with rope, turned it on, went to bed, got up the next day, it still would not burn through the paint

^^ This is NOT true, believe me! You most certianly can burn paint or strike through with a PCxp, especially on a body line or an edge!!! Ask me how I know...

I've struck through paint with my selection of pad, and compound on the 7424xp - the very first time I used it. This is after years of using a rotary without ever burning or striking through...
My mishap occurred "many" years ago when using a PCxp for the first time also. It involved a sharp body line, M105, a cyan HT pad, and an overly zealous case of OCD.

Very similar!!

Ultimate Compound, Green Hex Logic, speed 6.

You've all probably seen the pics of my removing some pretty severe sanding marks with it too.

They're great tools, the random orbitals. The technology in machines, pads and abrasives have really turned what was once a polisher into a true detailing machine of great capabilities.

Especially with long throws....

On a side note, yes, Rupes designed a system, but you sure as hell don't need to stick to the system to get good results. I've gotten just as good or better using pads and polishes outside of the system when I had my Rupes. Don't believe that marketing BS. By the way, the BOSS polishers come with better bearings than the Rupes.

Im currently using the griots boss long throws (coming from rupes mkII at my previous job) and feel that its pretty similar in power however i can use a 5" backing plate and a washer provided by the company without voiding the warranty. I also have a 3401 and rotaries and all of the above and feel that i can do the most efficient long term polishing/cutting with my G21 and a 5" backing plate and washer mod on MOST surfaces however there are many surfaces that it doesn't work well on, in which case I would fall back to the 3401 which is wonderful for all things except 8+ hour shifts. My pe14 gets used any time i have heavy cutting that i don't want to do with the long throw for whatever reason and i almost exclusively use wool pads on that
