SEMA Challenger - Polished, Detailed & CQuartz Finest

The car came out great, sounds like its got monster mods but the tire/wheel combo let's it down big time IMO!

Ok let's see if i can go through this job in my mind beginning to end.

1. Buckets (hah!)
2. ONR (for initial wash since it wasn't that dirty)
3. Chenille wash mitt(s)/Grit guards
4. Clay Bar, Megs Final Inspection for lube
5. Blackfire claybar extender (works pretty damn good really)
6. LOTS of microfiber towels, Korean WW ones (which a friend of mine sells and are AWESOME, i own about 12) for drying (Dani was holding them in the one pic)

Plush Korean 460gsm towels for polish removal (i sell those)
Regular mf towels for pad cleaning

7. Megs MF Cutting pads
8. Megs Softbuff 2.0 3" Foam Cutting Pad
9. Megs 3" MF Cutting pads
10. Megs 3" MF Finishing pads
11. Buff & Shine 4" Green
12. Megs 2.0 Softbuff finishing pad (large and small)
13. RUPES 21 (Buffdaddy.com!)
14. Trusty dusty PC 7424 (for 3" cutting/polishing)
15. M101

17. Megs D300
18. HD Polish
19. CarPro Reflect Polish
20. Dawn Soap/Pressure Wash/Foam Cannon

I never thought I'd say I liked the orange wheels over the new ones, but I like the orange wheels on that particular ride...of course it's not my ride. LOL!

One comment though...

How do you do all that nice clean work, get paid for it, and not be asked to clean the floors and everything in someone's garage after all that dust? Joke...but M101/105/205 dusts horribly. However, they can make quick work of the task at hand. Trade-offs I guess.

Look at the bottom of those shoes in the photo below, and they're NOT as bad as I've gotten mine on a few projects. Especially when you work on older, heavily oxidized paint. I had to mop my dad's floor twice and clean all the items on the shelves, and mom had dust on her kitchen cabinets and countertops just from opening the door going into the house a few times. Of course, a rotary and wool pad does have a tendency to make more of a mess of things while a DA is bad enough.

Have you ever had a complaint about the dust after such a job so thoroughly well done?

In short, no lol. Never had someone complain. We have had an owner or two come out and actually sweep themselves while we were getting READY to work, but never after and never have any any ill comments made.

And for the record, this job was done at home :)
We have been making a real effort to do most of our polish jobs AT home now, mainly for convenience and better control of whats around us...but when we do go mobile, while a few clients have had VERY nice garages...we have seen our fair share of ones that we have to do a little cleaning in BEFORE we start working.

M205 doesn't dust too bad unless you use it on a MF pad. 105/101...yeah..game over..it snows lol. I always make it a point to blow out my pads though, even after washing them. It is insane how much dust is still in them even after going through the washer.

Also if you use some water it helps to cut down on dust as well AND you use less product. Also a hit or 2 of water and then cleaning your pad via mf towel can really help to cut down on dust. Yes, it was still bad, but not AS bad :dblthumb2:

I'm on the same wavelength with the Rupes too. I've been waiting for some blackfriday/christmas sale to try to push the price point sub $400 for the 21 model. (Although the time savings for the 30 plus bucks i'm looking to save should be a no-brainer).

It really is a no brainer once you use it. Its like...how did i survive before having this lol. It really is on the same level of must have (if doing this constantly anyway) as a MF towel or MF pad.

If you do have that red though...man that would look GOOD with CQuartz Finest on it (not reg CQ but Finest...i loooove finest). If you ever do decide you want it done up you know where to find us :)

When we first started we probably would have done this job for between $300-500. We worked and worked and built our reputation AND skill and so this past year for some jobs we can go into 4 figures ...but you better know what you're doing and you better deliver because if someone is spending that kind of money they want to be blown away lol.

Those are usually coating jobs that go that high though. And though i post a lot of these big polish out jobs, there is always a lot of smaller wash/wax/interior work that fills in those other days to make ends meet, those are just as important.




Wow! 86' town car. You're right. Now we're talking BIG! You mentioning that reminded

me when I was young my mom's friend would come visit with her new dark blue town car.

She would "let" me wash it for $5. She would always inspect it and make me touch it up

where needed.

Lol yes i have an 86' and my sis has a 96', which is actually dark blue as well. Ive NEVER seen it in that color before and when we took it to the dealership for some work they said they never had either lol. It too has finest on it :).



A couple but i'm waiting for the owner to get back and then i'll post all that he send me up. The last 2 in the write up were actually at SEMA. He also said quite a few people approached him asking to do magazine shoots with his car so..that should be good publicity too.

I didn't think this quality of work existed in rural New England outside of the bigger cities.

You're awesome! Thanks for taking the time. It makes a huge difference as I can imagine the amount of work you put into the job by looking at the equipment, polishes, and such. I hope the magazine shoot brings you some good publicity. Keep up the good work. It has been a pleasure following this thread.

No problem at all, i just had to think about it for a bit lol. I hope the mag. articles do as well...the owner decided to have a run in with a freeway wall while in Vegas though :-\...i guess mainly the wheels are jacked and possibly suspension...apparently the paint didn't get hurt though by some act of God lol...or he is just telling me that so i dont kill him :)
 
Probably the nicest car at the show. I didn't go this year, but in past years MANY cars have had swirls which took away from the good custom work that was done to them.

I believe it. We've heard the exact same from others…we have also been called upon to quote a couple of other cars that were going to SEMA that were in horrible shape but though they had dropped God knows how much into their ride, they didn't want to pay for a professional detail…go figure :-\

Its just the old PC 7424…nothin special lol. We have the Rupes LHR75 from kevin brown now, that little guy is on a totally different level :)
