So this job has been on the books for a while now as he wanted it completed before a upcoming show this weekend. These Rebel SST convertibles are quite rare from what Ive been told. This particular one has the original interior still and has had some paint work done over the years. This was a challenge as some paint was single stage and other areas had a very very very hard base/clear. The goal here was to bring the gloss and clarity back while not causing any more harm. Special attention was paid to areas with thin paint, chipping edges etc etc.

So the car got a 2 step on most of the major panels except for the hood and one of the rear quarters that had base/clear on them. Those areas had some very bad sanding marks, holograms etc and needed some rotary/wool action first.

Rock on Justin! Great job on this rare muscle car! Looks great!

WOW!!!!!

LOVE that car!

What a job, man. I'm in awe! :dblthumb2:

Another one knocked out of the park. What a cool ride.

How do you like the McKees carnauba?

What a great job on that beautiful car. Carnauba wax on a well polished red paint is amazing!

I love it. And to be honest I think is very very similar to Pinnacle Sovereign.

Thanks. I agree. Something about a wax on a old school classic.

That's really awesome! I noticed in the photo below you don't have any masking tape on the trim. Am I being too conservative masking mine off when I polish? Do you have any trouble getting all the way up to the edge with your machine/pads? Did you do anything specifically to clean up the trim?

Some of the trim that had rubber edging I masked off but the beauty of these old cars with real trim is that you can usually polish them lightly and it will clean them up. Now if the trim was brand new fresh then I would mask it.

I was able to get pretty close without issues. Unfortunately there were some prior sanding marks too close to get out without removing trim which wasn't happening.

I know Mike Phillips mentions about polishing up old trim as you move around the car.

Thank you for the response I am new to detailing and went through the trouble of completely taking off the trim on my '70 Nova to make sure I was able to get behind everything and not worry about missing edges. Some of the trim I just couldn't practically remove. It took some time to mask it all off and I'm not sure if it was necessary. I'm wondering if next time I should just go ahead and polish right up against the trim as it appears you did here.
