Son1c 's Home Brew Carnauba Wax - ProtoWax -> Picture Heavy

This story is awesome! Glad to see your getting close (or there) Son1C. Reflections and gloss look amazing!

Thats awesome !
you're awesome :dblthumb2:
That's looking really good! Great job!
Thank you :D
man u gotta send one of those jars to try it on my blue vette

are u considering about production for these waxes or they still on test?
haha I can try, unsure on how I will be tackling the sample send out stage

A lot is going on behind the scenes with this, some of which I'm not sure if I can disclose yet, so at this point all I can ask is to please stay tuned! ;)

Nice to see you getting new ideas and improving your wax. Not sure if your wax is responsible for that silver charger, or if it was the detailer (probably you) that prepped it, but that car looks amazing (combination of polish and your LSP). Kind of sad to see you are "almost finished", as Son1'cs 38 or even 48 doesn't sound as cool as Son1c's 106. There is always room for improvement though, even after you found a wax that you are truly satisfied with. You can add to the scent, ease of use, durability, color charged, etc.

By the way, have you tried playing with the "very rare - Autogeek" Motan wax?
I'd say both :D prep is critical to any finish but the others felt that ProtoWax 36 enriched the depth and gloss
Even if this wax is soon to be complete, I have plans for a few other paste waxes down the road and the ProtoWax production will continue where this wax leaves off
As you said, always room for improvement, alteration, modification, etc
I did play around with colour charging some, it truly does work and is quite interesting, however it can be positive and negative in terms of the final look, so it is something I will delve deeper into at a later time --- plus the heavy staining of towels and applicators can grow annoying at times

I have not been able to source Montan Wax in a smaller volume, I have only found it from distributors in huge bulk orders

So it is indeed rare to me! haha

Awesome Job Drew!

Can't wait to put it through the torture test.

Excellent job! I mean, really, what more needs to be said...

I think all of us, at one point or another, have always wanted to create our own, proprietary wax blend with more white carnauba than anyone on the market while still maintaining a certain ease of use that modern formulas have.

On another note, I believe your comment regarding wanting to stay all natural is a very, very strong selling point. In today's day and age, natural products hold a premium as we start to care more about our health consequences and possibility of renewable sources of products. I think you could certainly carve out a nice niche by supplying 100% natural (organic? Who really knows what marketing you'll be able to have) wax.

Has anyone ever considered applying the wax while it is still liquid, right off the stove? There have been sometimes in the heat of the Texas summer or when I lived down in New Orleans that the wax would start to liquefy. I'm wondering if by heating the wax into a liquid and letting it harden on the paint before removal, if you can up the carnauba content without sacrificing the ease of use? Of course, this may be a terrible idea but, who knows, it may not be! It probably is but still, it would possibly be an interesting test...

Lastly, I look forward to the final, finished, really finished, I mean this is it, I'm done this it the one.... Product!
Thank you for the kind words and input :)

Agreed! It's amazing what else you learn just by creating your own wax, and how something relatively simple is so difficult to create a stand out

Thanks :D I agree as with similar usage I would take natural over synthetic personally

With applying before cooling I believe it'd be inevitable to not over apply, it is an interesting concept and possibly with a recipe tailored to this application it could definitely be possible

If you'd seriously like, I could give it a try some time haha

haha thanks Chet!
I appreciate the support!
& he keeps on with experiments also , never stops .
One must persevere!
Geeeeeez dude, I give you a TON of credit! Amazing if you ask me. :props:
thank you sir :D

thanks :dblthumb2:
haha I hope it fairs well! I have faith :D

I say we did very well with the prep on the Charger and GTI. :buffing:

I will say this about Drew's wax, it was very easy to apply and even easier to buff off. I thought Midnight Sun was gravy until I tried this. The other members could vouch. Once I get another sample, I will see if I could leave it on a panel longer and try to buff it off. It did indeed produce a nice deep and wet look.

I brought up a few ideas with Drew and we are going to try to apply it on top of a sealant. My car will be the test car for this in the next week or so.

I would like to see the durability of this wax though. The Charger belongs to a coworker of mine and I'll be keeping a close eye on it to give an honest "synopsis" (lol).

Oh it was a group effort then, but yeah the car came out looking amazing. Kudos to you and the gang. Seems like you guys have quite a little get-together up in the Northern V, sounds like a group to just hang out with and talk about detailing related topics or just hang

I was thinking, if it becomes a WOWO product, then it could be applied still hot or, at least, warm without the "risk" of over applying. After my post I started thinking about different wax applications in industry, such as surfing, snowboarding/skiing, personal hygiene, etc. and know that with the exception of surfing, the wax is applied hot.

That being said, you certainly have your hands full with the initial formulation so don't allow any of us delay you from your goal. I know, at least for me, that applying a warm wax allowed smoother application (for example in the summer vs. the winter). If this stands true, then, at least theoretically, the Nuba content and other hard ingredients could be increased without the need for harsh emulsifiers. Never know... Could be something, could be nothing. If you do end up doing the experiment, I can't wait to see!

back in the lab..
update coming later today..

Update 12 ..

Sending this out to, well I'll update on that later ;)

ProtoWax 36 is hazing, being impatient it took me awhile to find that out, between ~15-30 minutes however so far it can really be buffed any time after 15 minutes (in testing thus far) it goes from wet -> tacky -> hazed

Applied to my clients vehicle yesterday :D

--> as Chris said, Who says silver can't shine!

Looks pretty damn good! Just goes to show that with the right prep work, who needs a $100+ wax? Well done sir.

That's some great advertisement if you are a detailer.

Home made wax.... cool stuff.

nice to know that if you apply this to an entire car at once, you wont have to sacrifice the ease of taking it off! WOWO waxes have been my go to usually but ive been wanting to get a wax that i can apply to a whole car and then simply buff off and not have to worry about having it be too hard to take off. Looks like a winner in my book! :D
