Opti-Bond is amazing stuff. I love the low gloss, natural look. You said you had to use a lot and I'm a little surprised at that. On the bottle it says the product can be diluted 1:1 and used in a spray bottle which is what I use on larger profile tires and then use a foam tire swipe to spread the product around.
I bought the Opti-Bond, and like Bobby G found there was a learning curve. I was not happy with how the tires looked following a single application--they were streaky. I first tried the 1:1 dilution in a spray bottle, but that just did not work on the tires very well. I use that spray now for the wheel wells. I found Opti-Bond works best squeezing a quarter size driectly to a foam tire pad and applying. I usually have to apply a second application for the tires to look uniform.
Durability is pretty good, lasts through a couple of washes and maybe even a rain.
My favorite is Poor Boys Bold and Bright and gives a very nice black matte look. I find it much quicker to apply and overall easier to use. Durability is car wash to car wash. Will not survive rain. The durability is not as good as Opti-Bond but it is so easy to apply it is not that big a deal.
