Q: How can you tell when the wheels are clear coated?
A: Put a small bead of paint polish or rubbing compound on a towel and work it by hand on a "test spot" on the (cleaned) wheel. If you see black residue coming off onto the towel, the wheel is not clear coated and you can move on to a metal polish. If there is no black residue, you have a clear coated wheel and should proceed using paint correction products.
Shiny, I did a spot with m105 on the wheels and the black residue was coming off so I guess OPT METAL POLISH IT IS!!!
I am finally done, It took me about 35 hrs by myself BUT I still need to throw a sealant let that dry and cure then top it off with a wax, polish the wheels, and apply UTTG to all the trim. I wet sanded most of what needed to be wet sanded (about 60-70 scratches) with 2000 grit and some with 1500 grit. I did it by hand using a backing for the paper along with megs unigrit papers (kinda wear out fast). Needless to say the car is covered with orange peel from front to end and I wasnt about to do that by hand (meaning not using either a air sander or my da. Can a rotary be used as well? I definitely learned alot with this car "FIRST time sanding" and I felt very comfortable doing it. This car had some VERY stubborn WATER SPOTS EVERY INCH OF EVERY PANEL and it was swirl ridden and scratch galour EVERY where. The headlights needed some TLC as well which I did take care of that. The windows Had the same water spots as the body panels and I tried SIP with a white pad and that did nothing to them and Im not sure if a orange pad with SIP would be TOO aggressive so I didnt attempt it I will leave it for another day. Overall it came out GREAT! PICS will be up soon after EVERYTHING IS FINISHED looking like thursday morning I will be taking final shots and a final video of it along with a good write up. Thank you all who have helped me out along the way I really appreciate it.
