this car is in the line up for paint correction

this is my girlfriends car that is a scratch magnet lol, its a 03 gmc envoy that needs some TLC :) its going to be a long process i know. I will be using a rotary with menzerna super intensive po83, super finish po106fa, and final polish po85rd. i also have mg 105. i have purple foam wool pads, LC ccs orange, green, white, gray, red, and blue. As for sealants i will be using WGDG 3.0 and as a wax i will be using WG FUZION. im thinking about getting some 2500 grit and 3000 grit wet sanding papers for some spots. any suggestions :)

Your going to love the lc purple wool foam pad :)

yeah i do like it. i just see alot of people against the rotary i started with a rotary and i have never messed up. i purposely burned a junk yard panel to see what happens when you burn and to see how hot the surface really has to get, long story short if the paint can burn you STOP lol. i touched it once it crumpled up and it burned my finger pretty good lol.

Why should i use a sanding block i have in my cart the sanding paper with the backing pad from mg.

when i go to wet sand can i wet sand the spot i need to be done or do i have to wet sand the entire panel?

Just don't get overconfident.... even the best detailers out there aren't immune to burning a finish or running into other issues.

You're planning to machine sand, or do it by hand?

I'll say it again. Look up Mike Phillips' article on wet sanding and feather sanding and read carefully. Don't order or try anything until you do.

ok, so finally my child was born and now I get to do this envoy. he was born on 4/20 how ironic :) no i do not smoke . im going to put up a video of it in a few.. to show you what the paint looks like after a wash with 1 oz dawn and 1 0z apc plus

Personally, I think that SUV is a great opportunity for you to breath new life into her. Metallic blue is one of those colors that lends itself nicely to the right combination of products and pads.

I'm certain that when you're through, no one will believe it's the same car...:props:

I can't wait to see some before and after photos!! :dblthumb2:

The FIRST THING I would do is KILL THE CAT SCRATCHING HER TRUCK! THEN I'd start wet-sanding out the deeper scratches and then I'd start polishing out the rest. Good luck. You're going to be there a while.

quick video it was hd quality but for some reason when i uploaded it to youtube it became a crappy quality vid. how do you make the video show on here?

Ha. An old roommate of mine just call and told me he left his pristine NSX (16k miles) uncovered in the garage and a cat decided to use it as a slip N' slide.

Is this paint soft? it seems to get marred by the clay.

What clay and lubricant are you using?

my clay I got from one of those trucks that sale detailing stuff there main products or all of them i should say are carkem. the clay lube i am using is ONR (optimum no rinse)

this is the build of after claying before wiping off. This is the most i have ever seen!

so i decided to hit the trim "the places i couldnt reach inside" with a toothbrush, hot water, apc plus, and r1 granitize wax and grease remover. I scrubbed with that then had a cup with hot water and a bit of ipa which i used to clean it off and clean all the trim then i dryed it with a terry towel. this approach worked out really well.

ok so I gave it its second wash to make sure any remaining contaminants after that dirty clay job were removed. now, should I wipe down with ipa before starting my process? i washed again with dawn and apc plus 1oz/1oz. how about the chrome trim in the front can i use opt metal polish? I believe its plated not real chrome! what can be used on that to shine it up? Also the windows need to be polished, what should i use to take out the water spots? i tryed claying and vinegar and nothing worked. if i polish them "what do i use" and how do i get the very corners of the window that a pad wont reach??

If her car is hell bent on staying riddled with scratches, I would suggest just compounding it with m105 and going back over everything with something lighter.

If you have made up your mind on getting the scratches the best they can look, I suggest starting with 2500 grit, but you will probably have to use 2000 to get most of those out. Depending on your experience you may even need to use 1500. I highly recommend you stay 2000 and above to lower the risk of permanent damage.

If I can be of further assistance please let me know.

I think maybe you were rubbing too hard with the clay and not using enough lube. The clay should glide across the paint. You don't rub the paint with clay. As far as plated and not real chrome, ALL chrome is plated, so I don't know what you mean. Do you mean stainless steel trim instead? It looks a lot like chrome, but obviously isn't plated. You could try using a razor blade to remove water spots from the glass. Just be very careful especially with the corners of the blade. Might want to round them off first, as they could scratch if you're not careful. Obviously, you cannot use a blade to remove water spots from paint, but glass is hard enough that it can be done.
You want to go as gentle as you can when polishing chrome, because chrome plating is extremely thin.

There is absolutely nothing on an Envoy that is real chrome or will call for metal polish -- everything is plastic and/or clear coated.
