If you go to google and type what you are looking for then site:and the site it will use a regular google search but only hit said site.
I went go google and typed in grind my gears site:autogeekonline.net
I got
https://www.google.com/search?q=thr...=210&q=grind+my+gears+site:autogeekonline.net every hit has a post that says grind my gears. That really works well if you remember, something I rarely do
For sure!
I was just 'playing the devils advocate' so to speak. As I've used forums for a long time I've learned how to manipulate their search systems. I've also used the site search trick. I was 'just saying' is all. I think people do forget that these sorts of things are overwhelming. There is a LOT to learn, and detailing DOES have a steep learning curve. Polishing is a useless skill if you don't know how to wash, for example.
Again- it rarely happens on autogeek, but it's still a pet peeve of mine. Folks are overwhelmed, haven't found what they are looking for, don't know that Google can search the forum and are frustrated with a useless forum search function; and then someone who apparently doesn't have the time to answer their question apparently has plenty of time to bark "Use the search function!" (And no, I've never seen them say; create a custom google search of this forum!).
Just me anyway. I routinely repeat answers to questions on forums where I am able to contribute more than soak up (whereas here I learn more than I give information!). Yes, some are lazy or just ignorant and have no idea that it's been asked a million times before. But, sometimes there are tiny differences that are big to them. Like; wax for black paint. But what if it's a particularly soft black paint with a ton of metal flake? Or some other situation that makes it slightly different than all the previous topics on the subject.
Of course; then that poor newbie does search, finds a thread, and instead of creating a new thread- he posts his follow up questions in the old thread; to which the members chastise him for digging up an old thread! Then, when you do search, you are given pages and pages of threads that have your exact question in them! Followed by 'use search', and the one thread where somebody, apparently, actually answered the question becomes the Holy Grail and you are Indiana Jones on the quest!
