Tinted Windows Annoy Me

I think he is referring to what we call in LE as the "opportunist". An individual who normally wouldn't commit a crime, but when presented with the opportunity or given the chance will cave in and commit the act.

I can see a scenario where someone leaves his phone on the table in a Starbucks, and the "opportunist" grabs it instead of turning it in, I find it harder to imagine that guy smashing a car window or breaking into a house because he saw something through a window, but you're the guy that would know.

BTW, am I an opportunist if the kid in Starbucks gives me too much change and I don't give it back to him?

WTF?? No law-abiding citizen is going to break your window and steal something out of your car because they could look inside because you didn't have tint.

So if I have a diamond necklace on my front seat and someone who wasn't planning on breaking in see's that, they won't want to steal it?

What I'm saying is if you have valuables and they are visible, people who weren't intending on stealing something may now be interested to.

Yes you are. You may not have asked for additional change, or forced him to give it to you, but when you knowingly have too much change you are guilty.

A day light robber won't break into my car just because I have tint. Depends on the person. I see it happening both way. I see him wanted to because I do have tint and I see him not even taking the chance because he has no clue what is inside.

Lol. No your just stickin it to SB for overcharging you on your Vanilla Carmel Latte.

What about leaving your valuables in your car and forgetting to lock the doors? While your shopping in the mall, some like to go shopping in mall parking lots, especially during Christmas time.

From a personal standpoint I like tinted windows, from a professional I don't. When I get stopped all windows go down and hands are on the wheel, to make the officer feel more relaxed and comfortable.

Do you have a diamond necklace and is it in your car and where's it parked I'd like to test the "opportunist" theory. Im the MAN

Thanks for proving my point

Trust me, I'm not going to break into your car no matter what I see on the seat.

I'm not saying you. But people will do things, unintentionally or unplanned, when persuaded.

Welcome to Ago! But this is a really weird thread you started Op with random arse thoughts on window tint and going as far as why cars on velocity don't have it. Well enjoy your day, I got much more pressing issues to deal with....

Window tint??? Really?

after reading this artical I installed them on every car I own as we have had cancer in our family I felt the positives out weigh the negatives and just are not worth the risk

I have yet to see one valid con to tinting.

Sorry stealing is simple, it's done by opportunity. I can guarantee at one point or another some thief has tried to open your car door, not forcefully but literally just pulling the handle. Many go around and when they find an unlocked one they go in. Case in point, used to work out at a gym well they had a string of break-ins all were women who would leave their purse in the open instead of putting it in the trunk. One of the cars was the closest one to the front door they even broke the window facing the business (it was in a strip mall). Yes you should hide those things under the seats or in a pocket (such as a GPS or radar detector). Think about it which car would you rather get into the one you can easily see has valuables i.e. no tint, phone sitting in the cup holder, or the car that you have to stick your head up to the glass and squint and take time to see.

You know as well as I do criminals cruise the mall at Christmas, looking to steal stuff out of unlocked (or locked) cars. I find it harder to believe that there are people who are there shopping, and see something in an adjacent car, and say, well, I could go in the mall and buy this, or I could just break this car window and steal it, or well, maybe only if the car is unlocked, then I'll take it because it's a stupidity tax. You would know better than me if there are people for whom the line is that gray. But as in the diamond necklace scenario above, I'm not taking anything out of anyone's car, whether it's locked or unlocked.

Sure, but those are criminals who go around trying door handles to see if the car is unlocked. That's just their MO, some thieves break windows, some only go in if the car is unlocked (although I'm sure the window breakers try the door first). Just like some guys do armed robbery and some do burglary.

I didn't have tints in my car and loved it that way but when I was getting it ready for a 4k mile road trip with my wife and 2 year old kid, I had it tinted as dark as possible and still legal. Best money I every spent. Mid summer driving from utah through colorado, kansas, oklahoma and all over texas would have been almost unbearable without tints.
So although it looks cool, function is the main factor fo having tints in my case

Maybe I'm getting old or something but when I see a vehicle with tinted windows so dark you
can't see the person that really makes me angry. Is that weird or what?

What are they hiding? Who are they? I wanna know! Are they that insecure they have to hide?

I'm glad I'm not a cop, I'd be pulling them over all day checking their darkness levels. lol
IMO...
The definitive word here is old. It's a societal issue for me.
Then there's also the mention of old quite often here: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/off-topic/69720-driving-behind-someone-what-frustrates-you.html

As such:
-Since I feel that there is hardly anything as disturbing as being around...or even having to see old people, for that matter...
I appreciate it when they find it in their heart-of-hearts to tint their vehicles' windows.

-This allows myself (and no doubt other motor vehicle operators) one more avenue of escape from their hideousness.

And...As far as:
"pulling them over all day checking their darkness levels"...
Please see hideousness reference above.

I have tinted windows because I want them, I'm not criminal and the VAST majority of people with them are not. I'm really sorry to hear that about the NJ trooper or any other but its surely an isolated incident for sure! Tinted windows keep the car cool inside, help preserve the interior bits and ofcoarse are a nice compliment to the looks of your car. I don't understand why its legal in one state and illegal in another, the sun shines in all the states, period! Pulling someone over just because of tinted windows is a HUGE waste of time, guess the world is so safe that they've got nothing else to do now, knowing this I'll surely sleep better tonight.

That incident happened over 30 years ago, and window tinting had nothing to do with it. The point was not that "criminals" use tinted windows, the point was incidents like that are the reason cops don't like tinted windows, and the genesis of some of the tint laws.

To me there are only pros and no cons to having tinted windows.
Police have told me that. Dark tints on front glass or windsheild give them a reason to stop a car if none other exists.

In wisconsin, where I live, the legal limit for front tinted windows is 50%. The majority of people I know, along with my neighbors, have 20% and we have never had an issue.

My point is not all cops hate it, I'm sure some even have it. And I have yet to read about any cops not liking tint because they feel unsafe. If I were to get pulled over I always roll my windows down and I don't move until he is at my window. I do this to avoid confrontation and make sure the officer doesn't have a bad day at work. Things like this should be known to avoid confrontations.

Relate with one another so you know how to pass it on and get it in return.

If a cop wants to stop anyone they can use any reason, not signaling to switch lanes, driving erratically. The best thing to do if you're pulled over is just to roll your window down, leaving it up when they approach would definitely raise my suspicion.
