Well, as the title says...I tried out Megs MF pad system today. I do not have any pics mainly because my shop has been absolutely swamped with work as of late.

But, I do have thoughts on it.

My first impression was that the compound was not as easy to wipe off as advertised. I actually found it to be pretty similar to anything I've used. Although, I did find that down the road...it got easier as I went. Why that is...I have no idea. It appeared to me that if you work it a little too much, it won't wipe off very easily. But, when you take just 2-3 passes then wipe immediately...it tends to be easier.

One thing I really enjoyed was the smell. The cinnamon scent of the compound, and the blueberry smell of the finish wax was more than pleasant to work with. In fact, while using the Finish Wax, a few times my guys working around me mentioned how nice the shop smells, ha. But, the scent really doesn't matter...but I really liked it, ha.

I found it rather difficult to get a nice finish with the compound. I feel it left the paint hazy. But, once I went over the area with the Finish Wax...that didn't matter cause it finished off really nice. I personally feel that 105 finishes down better.

As for the pads themselves...I found it kind of tedious to have to constantly re fluff these pads. Meguiars recommends that the pads be fluffy for each use. Eventually I got a system down, and was moving right along. But with a foam pad, I find that there's less maintenance when compounding or polishing.

The plus side, is that the 2 step process with these pads really do give you the appeal of a 3-step cause it finishes that nice. I feel they did an excellent job, and made fairly quick work of the paint. I achieved swirl free paint pretty carelessly.

Overall, I think the real bread and butter with these pads will be how long they last. If they stand up as long as they are supposed to...I may use these pads more in the future. Especially being that you can toss them in the wash.

I didn't have any issues like what I've been seeing people post with the torn up pad situation. I thought they held up well, and did their job effectively as advertised.

I would really like to know the durability of this Finish Wax though. I'm going to try this system on my own car so I can know. :dblthumb2:

I would love to use the MF DA system for my soft paint vehicle but they've been on backorder for weeks now:(

Which DA did you use the MF pads with?

I used my PC with the 5" back plate.

Yeah, I had that issue. It was just the cutting pads though, so I just bought those elsewhere, then bought everything else through AG. The kits are on back order simply because the cutting pads aren't available, just piece the kit together like I did. Who needs a Megs apron anyways, haha. :dblthumb2:

ive been thinking of going to the MF DA system bc my 6.5in pads are really irritating me to no end expectantly with the 5in backing pad it came with. did you find that the system was quicker than the other other way with foam pads and the unlimited list of compounds, glazes, polishes, waxes, and sealants?

The order is already with AG two and a half (or more) weeks ago. I went online to Amazon and such and pieced a "kit" it and it was far more expensive then the 5inch kit at the time.

Not only that I have no CC/Debit card because of the whole PSN debacle, that lead me to cancel them all.

I disagree with the removal process in my experience. I tried several different techniques with this system over the weekend, from working quick to working long, wiping the compound right away to leaving it on after polishing 2 panels, and each time it wiped off so easy. I also think the 5 seconds it takes to fluff the pad far outweighs running a brush constantly across the face of a foam pad. But I do agree that it does leave a slight haze if you don't work the product correctly. It was easily fixed though. :)

This is just what i noticed but the more you work with it the easier to compound will be to remove and will finish down better

I've found D300 easy to remove every time I've tried it. Fluffing the pad after each section is worth it to me considering you can't get the cut and finish of the MF system with any foam pad/polish combo and a DA.

Honestly...no. I don't think it's quicker. BUT, I've only tried this system once.

I feel some people are kinda trying to defend the system...but bear in mind that I liked it. I thought it was more than effective for what I was trying to do.

I have no big ego here, I know there's a learning curve to everything new...and I'm willing to keep playing with it, especially since I did enjoy it. I'm SURE there's things I can do to improve. This was just my first impression.

Yup, as I stated above...I have more to learn. I did notice it got easier as I went. Whether that was because I was unintentionally changing my ways, or maybe the pad was worked, etc. It did get easier deeper into the job. Just don't know why. I'll figure that out next time, ha.

I do agree with you, it's a bit easier...but I just expected more I guess. And yes, the haziness was no big deal...just something I noticed. It cleaned up nicely.

I found the opposite for some reason. Could be any number of reasons why...but I tried both ways and found the 2-3 passes they instruct to work best. To each his own. Whatever works best for you, is how you should use it. :dblthumb2:

Bottom line, you're going to get better cut with the MF system compared to any other foam pad and polish you try with a DA.

I'm with you on this one, I need to play with this system a lot more. I'm not going to lie either, my first panel with the system I wasn't impressed. After reviewing some guidance that I received the system started to come together. I have another black car scheduled next week that I will be using half the system on again. So you liked the finishing wax? I haven't tried it yet. Best of luck to you. :)

kristopher would you mind on keeping me updated the more you use it being that its still on back order. i still optimistic on the system i would really appreciate it

I was too, trust me

Really? you find it to work that well

It works well, but I'm not sure better than a cyan ht pad w/m105 mainly because I can finish down way better with M105 and foam. With that being said I still need to work mf pad/M105.

cyan\m105 does not cut nearly as well as MF/d300, IME. I see u mentioned the cyan finishing better, not sure how u feel about cut?

I have only used it on one car so I won't agree or disagree 100% :) It does work very nicely though and I believe I'm going to like it. I will argue that the Griot's is the machine to have for this system!

Sorry Kris, did not mean to hijack your thread.
