On a black Honda CRV this weekend. Marred the CRAP out of it!!! Yea, the paint was soft, but I will never use any of these clay alternatives again!

Thats great... i just bought the speedy prep towel too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive been using the Nanskin mitts, fine & medium and haven't seen any marring or scratches.

I bought that too just a about a week ago, Must say, With the right lube ( and LOTS OF it ) like Optimum no rinse with low dilute rate, That's the best clay I've ever had...

Also, I've been using a soft bristle bush to clean the rubberized parts of the mitts during and after every use. Just to make sure. That rubberized part is sticky, and any contaminate picked up will stay on the surface, unlike clay where it gets embedded in deeper. Common sense is key, inspect & clean your pad surface after every section.

hey im local to ill take those off your hands

I use the 6" with my PC and lube it up with CG P40 Detail Spray and it works great.

I know we're all out to try the "next best thing" but I don't understand the vast migration to clay alternatives. I have never thought of decontaminating with clay to be a big problem. I have never dropped any and if I did I would just tear off a fresh piece. I hear the alternatives allow a user to work faster but I've never thought of claying to be time consuming. I guess I need to try one of the new products for myself but I must admit I'm a little scared since post like this one tend to pop up from time to time.

Did you use it on GLASS first?

Nanoskin Autoscrub products are shipped with a protective coating on the polymerized rubber face. Using the clay sponge on glass first removes this coating so it can safely be used on paint.

Sure did. It may do ok on harder paint, but no thanks, regardless. I used plenty of DP clay lubricant, too.

Sorry to hear Mark. I think for my soft paint cars I am just going to use Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay.

I didn't do a test spot.

As soft as the paint was, a polishing pad and HP Polish only gave about 50% correction, but no haze. When I tried UC on a polishing pad, it marred the crap out of it(looked like holograms). They only paid for a 1-step, so that's what they got. If I would have had Sonax perfect finish, I think I would have got a higher level of cut, but finish nicely. I just ordered some. Seems to be THE 1-step polish.

I been wanting to pull the trigger on the speedy prep towel fine grade, but I havent for this reason. If your going to polish does it really matter if it marrs the paint slightly?
