Did a search and found a little bit on using foam with d300 but wanted to expand this.…

I found a comment Guz made about using a foam pad with the d300, which is what I want to do tomorrow on my new 2018 Honda HRV. It's just the typical Japanese new car paint that has virtually no gloss to it and the depth of reflection is very very weak. The paint is fine for somebody that doesn't do detailing, but I know it can be much better.

Any tips? I'm going to use a griots cordless 5 inch with a medium white foam pad, followed by McKees 10 minute paint sealant, or maybe blackfire si02 spray, I have both.. The car has been polished last year and clayed. Other than the low gloss, the paint is in great shape, passes the baggie test.

any tips? All I have is the griots , the foam pad, and the sealants, so please don't suggest I use something else. This is all I brought with me on vacation. I did a test spot earlier today, and the gloss improved substantially with 2 to 3 passes.

Very low depth of reflection from the factory:

I’ve used D300 with force pads and 3401 on my 2016 pilot - absolutely amazing results. Light swirls were gone with 2 passes with really no need to follow up with finishing polish. I’d say D300 and foam is an exclusive one step for modern hondas. I’m 99% you’ll get great results. Cheers

If you are happy with the spot you did today, then absolutely go for it. D300 is really a great product and does play extremely well with foam even though it wasn’t designed for foam. Good luck!!

I like D300 on foam. It reminds me a lot of Ultimate Compound.

They even smell similar.

Hopefully you have more than one pad. D300 has a lot of cut and you will need to follow up with a finishing polish to get the best results. A minimum of 4 pads (6 is better) for cutting and clean each after each panel (or sooner).

I can’t think of a single time that I’ve Had to follow up D300 with a finishing polish. It’s 1 of the best finishing compounds I’ve ever used.

D300 1 step, straight to lsp.

Never had to use a polish after D300. You can if you want to jewel the paint a bit more, but the finish on D300 using any form of foam pad doesn't require polishing afterwards. Even with microfiber cutting pads it finishes amazing.

While D300 is awesome and “USUALLY” finishes well with foam, I have to politely disagree with some of the above comments. I have had many instances where the results of D300 after using on a foam pad can be refined further. Depends on what people consider LSP ready tho. Like they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It’s easy to see correction of paint swirls and such. It’s harder and less rewarding to see gloss get truly amped up..

Which is why they paired it with the Finishing Wax D301.

I do agree that D300 can finish beautifully, but I usually chase it with some kind of finisher. Per usual, It's all dependent on the paint.

They paired it with D301 mainly for protection.
They later released D302 to remedy any possible hazing on softer paints prior to finishing off with D301.

With a MF pad, D301 can still leave marring on softer paint. D302 is a flop, IMO. I wonder how D301 finishes with foam on softer paint?

First of all, that is a light color. Try D300 on soft black paint, even with a foam pad and you will have to follow up. Guaranteed.

This is true.

I had a black Equinox that was a PITA to finish out on. I tried the DAMF system and I got some beautiful marring. Same with M205.

Ultimate Polish Finished out well, but didn't remove enough defects.

PF2500 was needed to make the compromise.

I have the D302, but never used it.

I had a black metal flake suburau that I used PF2500 on Tangerine Hydros, and finished with D301 on Crimson Hydros. The finish was clear and beautiful. Prior to the PF2500, M205 on blue B&S pads was leaving some marring.
