Weird issue with the LC Hybrid Power pads?

So I stocked up on the 6.5" Hybrid Power Finish pads from LC since they fit the original 5.5" Flex backing plate perfectly, and picked up a couple gallons of the new Wolfgang Uber Compound.

First issue when I checked the markings on the plastic bag containing the pad. The yellow pad says "Cutting". The orange pad had a sticker on it saying "Polishing", but under the sticker it said "Cutting".

From the site the yellow pad is a polishing pad, and the orange is heavy cutting. I guess LC packed yellow pads in a cutting marked bag, and that the "Polishing" sticker was supposed to be placed on this bag, and not the orange pad bag?

I find it a bit weird alltogether tho since the yellow pad is increadybly hard and dense - shouldn't this be a cutting pad? I get far less marring with heavy compounds on the white pad versus the yellow pad, which shouldn't be the case?

Another issue, the yellow pad seems to disintigrate like crazy combined with the Uber Compound. I've tried this on 2 pads, and after just working them 5 minutes, they begin to shed foam like mad.

I've provided a picture of a yellow pad with Uber Compound used for 10 minutes, and a orange pad used with Uber Compound for 2+ hours.

Is this the reason why the yellow pad was "rebranded" as a polishing pad?

That's a good question.

I did notice that my white Hybrid power 5" pads are all cupped now from trying to clean them with a pad brush. No matter how light I went on the brush across the surface, the pads started to cup from the inside.

The hybrid foam probably doesn't last like the CCS foam.

I don't want to disappoint you in anyway but this is why I am moving away from the LC hybrid line.

I see some people ditched Hybrids and went back to Hydro-Techs, even with oil-containing polished and compounds. I'm very pleased with the orange pad tho. It provides excellent cut with Uber Compound and M101, tho with significant marring with both. I just did another 4 hours of cutting with the orange pad, and it holds up like a champ, just like the CCS pads I used before.

I'm also pleased with the white and grey hybrid pads.

However the yellow one is just horrible, and sheds foam like just any kind of oil or silicon containing liquid will instantly start to dissolve it. Even with M205 it started to shed like I ran it over a grid of razorblades. I just can't understand how AG would sell a product like this - I was 100% sure there had to be some sort of defect in the manufacturing process.

o.O

The Hybrid yellow pad was intended to be a light polishing pad, it falls between the white polishing and the black finishing pads.

Also, I try not to use a brush on foam pads and it tends to tear them up. I prefer to use the clean-on-the-fly method by using a terry cloth towel and hold it against the pad with the machine running.

:iagree:that's how I clean mine when polishing and I may use 2, 3 or 4 polsihing pads depending on the size of the vehicle.

I've heard complaining about the yellow hybrid pad crumbling in the past. Just the way it is, sadly.

I have had great luck with the blue and orange cutting pads. But I do prefer how the hydrotechs break down compounds and polishes. They also leave. Nicer finish when dealing with softer paints.

Should Hydrotech pads only be used with water based compounds and polishes?

"Choose any three of Lake Country's 5 1/2 x 7/8 inch foam pads for water-based polishes!

"Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5 1/2 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pads are made of imported European pre-polymer foam. This long-wearing, high quality foam is less absorbent in order to keep the majority of polish on the pad's surface. You'll experience a longer working time with your water-based polishes and compounds, resulting in less product used to achieve the perfect finish."

No, but that's where they shine. Most polishes are water based. Some that are not: M101, M100. I'm sure there's more out there.

OP, I received this request from Lake Country after emailing them a link to the AGO thread. The assumed I was the OP.

"Kyle,

Where did you purchase these pads from? None of our packaging has stickers, which leads me to believe that the distributor selling them may have gotten their labels mixed up. I myself find this odd also, and was curious if you still had the packaging and could take a picture for me? I’m assuming you threw them away but if not that would help greatly.

Could you also take a side shot of the pad along with a picture of the back side?

What type of machine were you using at the time?

Although the yellow pad is hard and dense, it does soften with the heat created from polishing.

Thanks,

Does the yellow pad have a beveled edge like the rest of the hybrid line? If so, it is a hybrid pad. As I said before, I've read people complaining about the durability(or lack thereof) of the hybrid yellow.

After talking with Nick @ Autogeek, I did not know that some of those pads were packaged incorrectly, and they had added labels to make them correct.

What difference would that make if they were marked incorrectly? The OP poster bought the yellow pad as a light polishing pad from the website. AG fixed the labeling issue with stickers. The real issue is the shedding foam from the yellow pads that some have complained about.

I was simply stating that I understood what happened with the labels. If you read the email earlier in the thread, I stated I was unaware of the labeling issue.

After talking with Nick @ Autogeek and being informed of the packaging issue, I figured I would clarify that situation so that other members would know.

As far as the foam, I haven't directly received any complaints on these pads other than this one. While people may have expressed their concern, I can only address the people who contact me with issues, helping me resolve them with pictures of their failed product and explanation.
