What did you do today non-detailing related?

Congrats on that. I built a 12 ft x 24 ft shed maybe 25 years ago. Don't know what I would do without it.
We had a 12x24 shed built and delivered after we bought the house and yeah, it is a godsend

We got a barn roof style that has lofts at both ends for extra storage

Even after emptying the storage unit I actually have some more room

Chilly, is that an outdoor storage unit? We have those around here, but the big thing now is "climate controlled" indoor units, which I think means 60-80°F.
This particular unit is on the outside of a very large storage complex that includes units with interior doors, and the door of this one does in fact open to the great outdoors; however, it is considered a "heated unit" and has hydronic heating in the concrete floor

It will stay above freezing, that is all they promise

This unit is a 10x25 and we got a grandfathered rate and military discount and it was $269 a month

The next sap that rents it will pay the going rate of $369 a month

There is a new deal up here that is being built; storage units rented as "man caves"

Heated like you are talking about and I guess guys keep their precious stuff there and go hang out with it

Whatever floats your boat

I guess you could detail in one

🤷‍♂️

I am posting this here for BigDave, who is still off line, and I will post it in the other thread I started for him as well

"I do feel the need to tell someone what I've been doing, so here goes, I haven't done any detailing, it's either been to hot or raining. I made a custom phone mount for Mum's car, so I have somewhere to put my phone when I'm driving it, I can't stand phone mounts that stick to the windshield, they leave a mark and cook your phone on hot days. I went over my nephew's this morning to feed their kitten, they stayed in Sydney overnight after going to Monster Jam, the boys love their monster trucks, and now I have holes in my hands because the kitten has needles and likes to play rough. I mowed the lawn again today, and I'm currently watching the Bathurst 1000, Mustangs and Chevys, but in a couple of years they'll have V8 Toyota Supras, yee haa. I did enjoy the "taunting" in Big Dave thread, I had some good responses, but too late now. I also enjoyed the Hyundai/Tesla biff, my typing finger was twitching."

I spent the day getting summer stuff winterized and put away and getting the yard ready for winter

I staked out the maple trees against the NE winds that beat on us during the winter, partially just for protection and I am also still trying to get them to straighten up a bit

I got the driveway and walkway marked with 4' snow wands so I can see where to snowblow

I got the underside of the mower pressure washed to get the last of the built up grass and I left it in the garage to dry, and tomorrow I will fill it with fresh gas with fuel stabilizer and run it long enough to make sure the bowl and carb have treated gas and then top it off and put it in the shed

I got the snowblower out of the shed and into the garage but I put it away after doing all the maintenance so it should be good to go

I blew out the pressure washer and the hoses and gun with compressed air and left them in the garage for a few days to warm up and dry off, and then I will use StaBil pressure washer winterizing foam on the pump and put the PW in the shed

I got all my garden hoses drained on a slope, rolled up, and in the loft in the shed

I got the wheelbarrow wrapped in a tarp and bungeed so it can stay in the back yard behind the shed, and I put the yard cart back there too

I got all the shovels and stuff in the shed and the snow shovels out in the garage and I got everything off the 3 sets of studded tires/wheels and I will work on getting those changed over in the next week

I guess that's it

Making dinner now, taco salad

Tired

Chilly,
Sounds like you have done quite a bit. I'm about a month away from packing up the outdoor furniture and draining the outdoor hose, etc.
One thing that I have gotten into in last couple years is running non ethanol gas in mowers and snow blower, etc. Non ethanol gas is only sold at certain stations in this area. Lots less trouble with small engine stuff with the non ethanol and stabilizer. I run that combo all year long. Add the stabilizer to the non ethanol right after filling the gas cans. Keep everything topped off with gasoline as well. Less air in the tank less chance for moisture in the fuel.

You are smart to find EFree gas

I may not be able to get detailing supplies delivered cheap but one thing we do have is ZERO ethanol fuel to contend with

Always grateful for that

Good reminder to put winter prep on the radar. I think mowing is done so the mower can be done. I think there's still some time before the pressure washer has to be done. We'll have to decide if we use it on the house before getting that prepped.

I try to get the ethanol free stuff for our equipment as well. This site lists stations that sell it: https://www.pure-gas.org/

I’m about on schedule

We have already had mornings in the mid 20s

I got everything out today to start on my tire changeovers and as I was pushing the floor jack under the car I noticed that the pad on the jack wasn’t looking too good

I don’t remember putting it away last spring looking like that but I must have

The rubber is compressed, crumbly, and just pretty bad

The jack is sold by an American company but I’m sure it was made in China

A eBay search located lots of replacement pads, probably also made in China, and one is on the way

I'm too cheap to buy new jack pads. I just use worn out polishing pads from my DA polisher that I would have thrown away anyways.

Chilly, that looks like some sort of rodent chewed that hole in the jack pad. Sometimes they will chew on that rubber stuff.

That’s possible because I sure don’t remember putting it away like that

I guess it’s possible that it was already on the way out and I got it on a bolt head or something last spring

Anyway, less than $10 for a new one

I was going to use Goop and fix this one but it’s just too degraded

I have a '99 Corvette ("C5" generation) and the standard mid-car jacking point will deform and possibly damage the bodywork as it partially wraps the frame rails there so Chevy helpfully sells some jacking pucks. There's a slot in the frame rail and the pucks have a music-hook kind of thing sticking out the top so you insert the puck and rotate it to keep it in place so you can position the jack underneath. Nice. Except Chevy makes these pucks out of billet (why, just WHY?) and wants crazy $$ for them (or did, back then anyway). I mean they don't even have cool crossed-flag logos or anything to impress the friends I don't even have!

Sooo . . . a stop at Play It Again Sports (are they still around?) to buy 4 used hockey pucks, a stop at Home Depot for a couple of music hooks and 10 minutes with a drill and . . . voila! . . . my own set of CUSTOM CORVETTE jacking pucks for less than $10. When jacking other parts of the car like suspension components I use a scrap section of 2x4; if I'm feeling really motivated (as in quite rarely) I *might* use a big-azz rubber band thingie to secure the wood to the jack so it doesn't move around while I'm positioning it.

The 4Runner jacks up under solid steel axle, etc and both Lexus' have single center jacking points (1 front, 1 back) that are on heavy frame cross pieces

My old TT was a whole nother matter and was a PITA to jack

This is what I ordered and the design seems universal among all the Chinese knock off importers on FleaBay

It should work fine, durability will be another matter

I have a center jacking point in the front but not in the rear since they went to non-independent rear suspension. Very annoying. I have the jack stand pads for the stands.

From Big Dave in the land down under.

I renewed the registration on the FJ. $625 for the government, $344 for compulsory third party insurance, and $49 for the inspection. Over $1k all up.

We have been under a severe weather warning since yesterday morning for high winds and gusts up to 55

Today the winds are fierce, as bad as I have seen here

We are easily having gusts over 50 mph, and I thought I was going to lose the double gate in the new fence, it was banging back and forth with only the latch tubing holding it

I ran to Home Depot and got a couple of 2x4x12s and tied them into the 4x6 gate posts and then tied them into the gate crossmembers with 3 1/2" deck screws

Probably should have just gone ahead and gotten 3 but it seems stout and bulletproof now

Fingers crossed

I got the new insert for my floor jack head and I am not sure about it

It is obviously much larger in diameter although the molded in extension in the bottom of the pad does fit the jack head nicely

I was going to clean both of them with alcohol and glue the pad to the jack head with Goop but I think I will see how it works first

It is some type of synthetic "rubber" with a bit of give to it and it feels like it has something like a hard insert in the center that it is molded around

We shall see how it works, 3 cars to change over tires/wheels

Supposed to get snow in 3 days
