The 4Runner didn’t slip off the jack or explode or anything so I’m calling that a win



I need to take the Lexus’s (Lexi, Lexees; what’s the plural of Lexus anyway) to the tunnel wash and get the wheels clean before I swap them out so I don’t scratch them

It was 17 here this morning so no bucket washes going on and I’m not in the mood for 2 top to bottom rinseless washes

Kind of detailing but not really. My bucket Dowley wheels have been falling apart. They are many years old. I looked on grit guards site to order some replacement wheels.

To my surprise they have some newer models as well. I went with 3 sets of the 3 inch roller blade style wheels to replace then on all 3 of my buckets

I may have been wrong about saying no pinch weld jack points because I have only read up on using a floor jack, and not an emergency jack

I didn't think about that until I opened the trap door to the tool and spare tire area on the TX500h to put the lug nut key in the tool organizer foam insert and saw the emergency jack (yes, I had seen it before)

I further didn't think about it because the UX250h doesn't even come with a jack, or a spare for that matter, due to being fitted with run flat tires and because the space for a spare is taken up with hybrid electronic gizmos

It does have the foam organizer for the jack and tools but not even enough space underneath for a donut spare

Would anyone know if those fees are annual or for what type of time period?

After I posted I saw your other picture where you had the jack in the middle front. It's always good to have multiple jack points; I have a couple cars in the family now that show the pinch weld as the only acceptable lifting point, which is really a problem if you want to jack it up and put a jack stand...at the pinch weld.

I probably (absolutely?) should have jackstands under the car but I haven't replaced them yet after the move

I borrowed my son's to do the brakes on the 4Runner last year and if I was doing anything other than changing tires I would use jackstands and appropriate filler blocks

These are annual fees, I just noticed on the invoice that the $625 is made up of a $79 registration fee, and a $546 motor vehicle tax based on the weight of the vehicle, and the FJ isn't light.

As a side note, if you're on a government pension, which my 84 year old Mum is, the the registration fee and tax are waived, so she only has to pay the CTP insurance and inspection. The funny thing is the pension is federal, but the registration is state, but they work it out.

For conversion, $1018 AUD is $684 USD.
 
I asked the gf if we'd be power washing at all this year since it's getting colder and I was thinking about winterizing the pressure washer (turns out it was never used since it was winterized last year). She decided that we could skip kayaking and get the power washing done. I prefer kayaking but did what I could reach on the back of the house and some of the deck. Pressure washer is winterized again with Briggs & Stratton Pressure Washer Pump Saver.

May have to look into floor cleaning or extended reach attachments. Anyone have something they like?

Sorry, I mixed my metaphors, so to speak, I never use jack stands when I'm just changing tires, unless I'm leaving something jacked for a long time and I'm not sure the jack isn't going to relax (leak) on me. I was thinking about when you are doing brakes, or I need to get the wheels refinished on one of my cars and need to put it "on blocks" so to speak.

You have one of those retractable awnings? How do you like it? I once dreamed of having a giant one for my driveway after I lost a tree that was shading it.

We like it. It came with the house. It did end up tearing down the middle so we had to get the fabric replaced. We're told that's not uncommon after enough years.
 
Doesn't look like we'll be making up for the lost kayaking. The gf's car developed transmission issues so she decided to trade it in on a 2024 CX-5. The roof rack was on her car.

When I first took the little car in for winter tires/wheels they were so busy that they were doing changeovers in the parking lot and I went out to check on the progress and the car was up in the air on 4 floorjacks with nothing on the hubs

It looked like it had been through a Saturday night Detroit cinderblock special

My son and I hung the Christmas lights from the roofline yesterday and I finished wrapping lights on the porch and getting it all hooked up today

This made me think of your neighborhood up there and then I remembered the cows and started laughing to myself.
 
I went comet hunting tonight, it's called C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), and it has a period of 80,000 years, the last time it was this close the Neanderthal still roamed the earth. I took my binoculars with me walking the dogs tonight. Found a dark spot, and found it in about a minute, I've been trying to see it for at least a month, but the weather and the fact I didn't want to get up at 4am were against me. I could barely see it even with the binoculars, it looked like a faint wisp. As soon as I got home I broke out the DSLR and tripod, played with some different settings and got some shots. These were the best, I cleaned them up with Photoshop in my phone.
