what's the last car care/detailing video you've just watched?

I watched 3 videos featuring a chemist. One was the recent video with Detail Co.'s chemist and the other two were with Christopher Gallahar (BnB Blending, Adam's chemist).

A few of their comments...some were not surprising

- all traditional soaps are based upon 1 of 3 or 4 basic products (like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate). One said dilutions like 1:1500 are not likely effective They said they had many formulas for soaps. Some are very simple and others complex,
- for a low/high ph product (out of the bottle) it has to be formulated to not lose the ph when diluted so in bottle ph may not be final ph
- one said a traditional wash should be safer than a rinseless wash
- one stressed the difference between durability and longevity. Two product can be equally durable but one can last longer. This is in relation the concept of sacrificial layer.
- one stressed importance of water quality when diluting (can cause significant variation in performance) since if water has a lot of salt/minerals, the primary product can react with it and loose some effectiveness as a cleaner when used
- paint prep is a must for protection products (sealants, coatings) to work
- coatings come with a risk that requires a lot of work if you decide to remove it and has limitations on what can be used on top of it,.
- one preferred sheeting products but customers believe beading is the key so many products are designed to bead
- on said a wash and wax product is not likely to clean very well given you trying to leave something behind. He did not seem to like them
- how many misinterpret Msds sheets (where it is made, formula, etc). One uses a company in Germany to prepare so some have used as proof that some brands come from same manufacturer.

Both were devoid of marketing hype.
