Which car wash soap?

This is my vote as well.

It may seem expensive, but it is actually one of the cheapest car washes out there. In my opinion, it's also one of the best and I think others that have used it will agree.

Here is a chart a made about a year or so ago so you can compare:

washes_low_to_high.PNG

I use 1oz per 4 gallons, but others like Ron may use just a tad bit more. I believe the ratio I use it is at 512:1 or maybe it's 511:1.

That doesn't have the gallon version of it. I'm thinking of trying out some optimum car wash, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I'm a big fan of Optimum Car Wash. It has excellent lubricity and it smells wonderful! I have a gallon on the way from AG.

I've read great things about Duragloss 901, but I'm happy with Optimum Car Wash. The two cost about the same (depending on where you buy) and I can't imagine a wash concentrate smelling better than OCW, so I'm sticking with it.

Do you use the recommended 1 oz. per 5 gallons? I feel like that wouldn't be enough lubricity.

Approximately, yes. To be honest, I've never measured. I always "eyeball it." I don't follow recipes or measure ingredients when I cook either. I like to think I have a good eye for approximate quantities.

I'm sure some washes I've used less than 1 oz per 5 gallon bucket and other times more. I've had zero issues with lubricity so far. OCW rocks!

DG901 and Optimum Car Wash get my vote.

:iagree:

Also, for extra lubrication, try adding an ounce of rinseless wash like ONR or DP Rinseless to the bucket in addition to your regular wash soap.

my fav's in order 1. ultima 2. duragloss 3. optimum 4. cg citrus for paintworks cleanser

1Z Exclusiv Gloss Shampoo is very slick. Maybe the slickest of the many I've tried, its likely my favorite. Optimum and Duragloss are good, but I tend to like ones that are more concentrated. CG CW&G is a great deal and foams well.

Sonax Gloss Enhancing is top notch as well. I just ordered some Ultima and Wolfgang, both get great reviews. If your looking for best bang for your buck, you should buy a gallon - it will last forever. Maxi Suds II is one of the best deals out there for a gallon. Sonus isn't bad either.

The Gallon version of what? I don't know what "it' is.

If you mean Ultima, that's because it wasn't even available in gallons then. I didn't even know it was available until you said something. I just added it to the list and it's $0.47/wash compared to $0.55/wash for the 22oz version

512:1? What is this ratio referring to?

Well, someone told me it's 1oz of product for every 4 gallons of water, but now most people are saying it's 1 oz of product for every 3 gallons of water.

The 512 is derived from multiplying 128 (1gal) times 4. Since we are talking about oz of product we also need to be talking about oz of water.

That is the ratio of water to product although I believe it's 511:1 so 511 oz to 1 oz product.

Does that make sense?

Duragloss 901 is awesome and can be bought at napa. Also like chemical guys citrus wash and gloss. 1oz to 5 gals of water. Great deal and a gallon is like 20 bucks.

One note on DG and NAPA. I thought, based on comments here, as well as the DG site that their products were available there as well. Not so, at least nowhere within driving distance of me. (And Atlanta is a big town) When I asked my local NAPA(s) about DG products the only thing they could even FIND were smaller bottles. Nothing in gallons anywhere. I was actually looking for 951 (well, it's 952 in the gallon, just as 901 is 902 in the gallon) and the ONLY place he could even FIND any 951 was 4 bottles in Boston. That was a week before the bombing.

Here's another good Meguiar's car-wash shampoo...It's very economical too!!

Meguiars D110 Hyper-Wash...
-Dilution ration @ 400:1
-Equals: 640gals of RTU car-wash shampoo!!

:)

Bob

Thought I had some of that coming in my order today. Silly me... I ended up with 1 CG HoneyDew, 1 DG 902 (901) and TWO Shampoo Plus. How in the world I ended up putting it in twice is beyond me. :dunno: OTOH, tried it today in the foam gun, no touching, no pressure washing, on my daughters car just as she was heading out to work. It was covered in dust and pollen, came out remarkably clean! :D

My local napa didn't carry it in warehouse they looked it up in their catalog and got the number. Delivered next day to the napa store. Not too bad actually. One thing I did find was pricing was a bit different than their website but that was fine by me. I may end up going back to get a gallon of 901. That stuff smells amazing and works perfect.

My local NAPA store doesn't have it in stock but was able to deliver any DG product and was able to pick it up the next day.

Re: Which car wash soap?t

I just ordered the Sonax a few days ago. Glad to hear some positive feedback about it!

What I think we really need is...

Ratings for
1) Preserving my protection (ie weekly washes) = Product X

2) Heavy Cleaning (ie I just drove across the country, the car is covered in bugs, and will reapply sealant) = Product Y

3) Foaming (ie I use a foam gun and really care about how much and how long the foam lasts) = Product Z

Agree?

My personal opinion is that car wash soap, as long as its ph neutral, is one of the least critical products used in the process. I think the process of washing is probably more important. I have used NXT wash, DP wash and Wolfgang autobath. I like the DP the best of those three. Seems to have the most sudsing action and is super concentrated, only a little goes a long way. DP products are usually well priced at AG.

You know what they say about opinions though :)

Now ya' see guys.... that _ is _ exactly what I thought! The NAPA guys told me they couldn't even GET IT! (Wasn't in their catalogs) :dunno:

So I called a CARQUEST store about 30 minutes away, told him I wanted to setup a new "vendor account" and asked about bulk Duragloss products.

SAME FREAKING ANSWER! :nomore:

Oh well.... As long as I can order from AG on Monday and it's here by lunchtime Wednesday (with free shipping) then it ends up costing less than actually going to pick it up. (Even at my local NAPA which is <10 minutes away. ;):dblthumb2:

Any-Who..... with 4 gallons of soap I'm figuring I'm SET for a while. Even if I gobble it up in the foam gun 3 days a week. (AND.... I'm sure y'all know, THAT PUPPY gobbles up some soap!)

Oh yeah...duh ounces. The math portion of my brain was taking a break. Haha.
