Why are Threads being Deleted? (Admin Note: Threads are not deleted but moved or closed to maintain civility)

Re: Why are Threads being Deleted?

This is a good thread, and some excellent points have been brought up. The main thing is to proofread, proofread, proofread. I have to do this myself. First off, it lets me catch any spelling and grammar errors, and I can make sure I have said what I want to say in a factual and tactful manner. I know I've opened my mouth a few times too many and regretted it later (not always necessarily on the forums, but it has happened). Don't let your temper or your pride or stubbornness get in the way. I'm here to have fun and soak up information like a little sponge, and I hate seeing a bad thread get in the way. There are so many of you I feel like I've known forever yet we've never met. I love you guys! :grouphug:

We love you too man!

Re: Why are Threads being Deleted?

Even Mike P made a comment about pushing away from the keyboard and going out into the garage and working with the products to develop a technique.
This was directed at me, so I will respond. Funny thing is, how does Mike P know that I haven't practiced my technique? Does he have a surveillance camera on me 24/7? I DO practice A LOT.

I do ask A LOT of questions, too. However, that has NO correlation for me to push away from the keyboard and go practice my technique. As I stated above, I practice a lot. If there is a limit to the amount of questions being asked, generally speaking, then I should have been told strictly that.

I hate to keep bringing up certain situations, but I feel it's my right to explain myself if anything is being directed at me. :)

I meant nothing derogatory towards you. You have asked for my thoughts, so I will provide them. It seems to ME that you will ask a question about a product or a technique, and then turn around and ask other questions (be looking for another "better" product or technique) so quickly, that in "MY THOUGHTS" you haven't had enough time to evaluate the first product/techniques. (Only my humble thoughts, as you did ask) I will admit that this is only my perception and could definitely be wrong. I am glad to hear you are practicing alot and I am sure you will do a great job...

I didn't take it derogatory, I just wanted to explain where I'm coming from, just like everybody else does. :)

I can understand where you're coming from. :props: I'm now very cautious about the questions I ask.

That 1st paragragh is exactly what fuels the fire. Mike P might not take offense to your statement, but others might, including myself.

Do you even know exactly what this is in regards to? So Mike P is allowed to tell me to push away from the keyboard and go practice my technique, when he has absolutely no idea how much I've practiced my technique? So, I'm supposed to just keep my mouth shut and take it?

At this point, I don't care if I get banned. I don't want to have to back myself up all the time. I'm probably now labeled as the "a**hole" of the forum.

Actually, there won't be a need to ban me, I'm done with this forum. Now you can all celebrate. :)

Well, that's a fine attitude. I must say, I am very sorry to hear that. I thought we all had a mutual respect for one another. Guess not. :dunno:

Re: Why are Threads being Deleted?

I am sorry for any additional backlash this will create, but post is locked. This is exactly what we dont need. This is locked until ADMIN can decide if there is any merit to reopening.

Please refrain from any additional or new posts on this topic. It will be reviewed tomorrow. I also hope you will all get a good nights rest and look at things from a different perspective tomorrow.

Wow!

I have to be up very early today, so I went to bed very early last night. I wake-up, can't sleep so I figure I'll check on this thread and find the above?

Mark, I can confidently say you took my comments about pushing away from the keyboard the wrong way...

It wasn't targeted at you, it was targeted at everyone involved...

After bringing up and running a major forum since January of 2004, please take my word for it when I say I take maintaining a smooth running forum very seriously, I have a lot of experience doing this and I never targeted my comment at just you but everyone involved that was causing problems. You were not the primary problem.

Pushing away from the keyboard is a term I use to politely let people know it's time to push away from the keyboard before they post something they will regret. I often time apply this comment to myself, it keeps me out of trouble and that's why I post it once in a while to the forum to help keep my friends out of trouble. I take my own advice and try to lead by example.

Now I'll re-close this thread....

Re: Why are Threads being Deleted?

I've opened this thread again, I'm not really sure there's anything else that needs to be added and am working on a behind the scenes project so I don't have time to babysit it, so if anyone feels compelled to post a reply please consider what you write carefully before clicking on the [Submit Reply] button.

We appreciate everyone's participation on this forum and moving forward this forum will become a more friendly environment, you have my word on that.

Thank you for understanding and complying.

Also just to note, I've added a comment to the title because the original title infers something inaccurate.

Here's my addition just so the record is clear and accurate

Into the future we hope and expect we won't have to move many threads due in incivility.

Hey Mike,

My thoughts were clouded last night. It was crazy of me to think you would ever direct any personal attacks at me. Your hard work and determination truly show with your *details*. I know you thrive to help everyone 100%. Keep up the great work! :props: :dblthumb2:

I really wanted to make this clear. Like I said, I have my reasons, and I will now step away.

Been reading Mike's posts since around 2005 and whenever he has said to "push away from the keyboard" its just a nice way of saying cool off and take a break, I am sure even Mike has his moments where he has needed to push away from the keyboard at times.

Read all the threads your referring to as well. Seems everyone is just trying to be kind and helpful.

It may be time for me to push away from the keyboard now.

Something I don't think has been brought up is the fact that their is no tone of voice or facial expressions in email or on a forum. In business you have to be carefull what you email because all humans are insecure on some level (conscious or subconscious) and we can easily become defensive or think somebody is implying something they are not. Also everybody's sense of humor is different, sometimes vastly so. A forum like this can be more difficult then emails in a business because unlike business you may want your personality to come through a little more on a forum. The emoticons can help a lot. Posting a comment that may be taken one way or the other can have a drastically different effect if you drop a smiley face next to it.
Of course there are people that enjoy putting other people down. And some people need to build themselves up. For me I am not that easily offended and I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Some people are just blunt. So if somebody's being blunt that's fine for me. If their trying to put me down then I pity them since they are obviously already down. POSITIVE ENERGY goes a long way towards a better world! :dblthumb2::props::welcome::laughing::applause:::;):p:):):)

If someone is on your case, the old cliche, "Consider the Source", is pretty good advice.
I recently saw it used under just those circumstances.
It was directed at me and I probably deserved it. :D

Sometimes, I find myself feeling defensive when it is not warranted. That is the great enigma of the internet; you can't post emotions! You can throw in a comment that someone can take completely out of context to what you originally meant. It is hard to overcome that obstacle, especially when you will rarely ever meet your fellow members in person. This degree of impersonality also has an effect on everyone's internet persona, for better or worse.

This forum is so straight cut compared to most of the others I am on, I am pretty sure every single thread on my favorite Saab forum would be closed immediately if any AG mod saw it haha.

Boy, I go away for a week and all heck breaks loose....

Wow, I've never seen this kind of emotion on a detailing forum. I'm not even sure how there gets to be this kind of emotion on a detailing forum. For a while I thought I was on one of my college football and basketball forums instead of the AG forum. That's one of the things I like about this forum so much, there isn't much negative emotion over here like on other types of forums I participate in. I hope it stays that way and that this is an anomaly.
