I did this customer's previous truck with a consumer grade coating about a year ago and he was so thrilled that when he traded his truck the first thing he did was to call me to set up an appointment. He told me over the phone that he had purchased the same exact truck, in the same exact color, and that he was waiting on wheels and tires to bring it to me. So we made an appointment and discussed what he had in mind for me to do to the truck.

The Game Plan:
- Polishing
- Paint Coating
- Hard plastic Coating
- Window Coating

I told him that I could not quote without seeing the truck because it is BIG and BLACK, but considering that he had less than 3000 miles on the odometer that it should be a simple process and should be relatively easy for me to fit it into his budget, to which he replied that he did not have a budget and that I was commissioned to just do it right! We discussed consumer vs. Pro grade coatings and to be honest he was not listening to all the "regurgitation" so I just decided what I was going to do LOL!, and he was happy with that ;)

The truck came to my shop and looked great from about 15 feet away, then the sun hit it and I was shocked. I washed and decontaminated the vehicle, brought it in to the shop and inspected it with the "no lie" lights

I did a test spot and was SHOCKED at how finicky the paint was. I tried 2 different machine, a total of 4 different pads (from different manufacturer) and 3 different cutting compound, ALL results in good correction but MAJOR DA haze. The test spot was then hit 3 different pads combined with 2 different finish polish and after close to an hour of tinkering I finally had my process. This should be a good "word to the wise" to ALWAYS quote with a follow up warning that it is all depending on the more thorough inspection and test spot

Polishing was done with the Rupes 21, LC flat blue pad and SF4000

The "no-lie" lights were used to inspect, a sun inspection was done and then the truck was coated with CQuartz Finest (and baked)

Thanks for looking! Feel free to ask questions, comment suggestions etc... If you are interested in a more in-depth description of the steps, I will be glad to do a write up to accommodate those interested in more than just the pretty pictures ;)

Oh..... I did forget to mention that all hard plastic were coated with DLUX and the glass received a nice layering of CQuartz Forte!

Fantastic, I mean fantastic results!!! :props: :dblthumb2:

What combo did you end up using for your first step?

Incredible work Claude! That black Chevrolet is Flawless!

Always enjoy your work. Thanks for sharing.

Please excuse me now while I shovel my jaw off the floor.

Wow that paint looks incredible. Amazing job!

Thanks! A labor of love AND everyone was happy in the end. I would have shot myself in the foot if I would have given this job a firm quote because I ended up spending an extra 4 hours dealing with the DA haze.

Thanks buddy! I started with an orange pad and Fixer = yuk!; FG400 = better results but DUSTY; S3XXL = good results and less dusty but same problem with DA haze as other 2. Switched pads and tried MF, Spider etc.. and no dice. In order to speed what was now a 2 step I ended up settling on purple wool + S3XXL for the cutting, which was followed by LC flat blue combined with SF4000 for the winner!!

Thanks buddy! Nothing I haven't seen coming from your shop. BTW Mike...... just you wait on the next Show and Shine. I actually have a couple of videos to share. It was HORRENDOUS!!

Thanks again Mark!

What to say, I always come to your threads with huge expectation, and you always surpass it. Definitively did it again, congratulations on work, pictures and write-up.

Top notch, thanks a lot for sharing.

Kind Regards.

Your shop puts out amazing work Claude. Because of your review, I bought a quart of S3gold XXL from Corey. Can't wait to try it out.

Holy jumpin'! That was an amazing job. May I ask how long it took you? That's one heck of a big truck as well. The biggest I've done is a couple of the older '00 ish Ford F-250 with short beds.

Excellent work as always and excellent photography as well :dblthumb2:.

When there is a show & shine by Pain it is always a treat to see the turn around. Great work

Thanks Rafael for the kind word. If you want to see something pretty ridiculous, stay tuned for the next Show & Shine. You will throw up and tear up in the same thread ;)

P.S. Before that though I have to review the new Kompackt PE8, so look for that to come out today or later in the week

Thanks bud! I don't think you will be disappointed :xyxthumbs: I do have to say that I am not a big fan of the spout on the 1 liter but it is such a huge bottle that I transfer it to some squeeze bottle. Hopefully the quart has a better spout. Speaking of Scholl's be on the lookout for my next product review for a taste of S0 (aka liquid sandpaper).... one word AMAZING!!!!

Amazing work my friend:)

Thanks buddy! By the way, how have you been? I've been MIA in the last few weeks so haven't really kept up with my AG buddies.

Beautiful job. Customer must be thrilled.

Thanks Mike! The customer was thrilled and actually came up to me yesterday mentioning ONE MORE TIME how thankful he was.

The exterior work clocked right at 23 man hours. It would have been less of a pain if I could have done a 1 step + protection but....

What also increase work time is the fact that I bake each panel to 170-180 degrees for a minimum of 10 minutes. On a big beast like this is done take a while ;)

Excellent work as always and excellent photography as well :dblthumb2:.

Thanks Frank. Word to the wise, black truck + mid day pictures + superb reflection = major issues with the automatic metering of the camera LOL!

Very nice

Ryan

Thanks Ryan!

How much CQ Finest does a beast like that require?

With V5 it would have taken 1 1/2 bottle, but V6 has more solids and was reformulated (carriers) and applies thin in comparison, and I was able to do 2 good coats with 50 ml.

Now thats how black paint should look! Stellar turnout as always Claude. I really like the new Chevy Z71's

Thanks Caleb! Black well done is awesome. Can' wait to see you trade in the smurf and get that BLACK M3 (or M5) LOL!

When there is a show & shine by Pain it is always a treat to see the turn around. Great work

Thanks buddy! The next one will be a jaw dropper and I think to this date the best story, so as mentioned in a previous comment... look for a product review and then the Show and Shine which should be title "from Hell and back!!"

You the man Claude, thanks for sharing!

WOW that looks proper Claude.... excellent work, write up and pics. Thanks so much for sharing :dblthumb2:
