Might be going all optimum...input requested

Well, I think as PiPUK (where has he been lately?) told us, DAT and SMAT are kind of made-up detail industry terms, and people in the abrasive industry would have no idea what we are talking about.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit....kind of like the term "adaptive abrasive technology". :rolleyes:

Todd Helme's article on FG400 vs M105 seemed to indicate that FG400 also starts out with clustered abrasives that break down into primary abrasives which do not diminish.

Mark also came back with similar reports from Rupes regarding Zephir.

I think that approach for a cutting compound is great!

2 months ago corrected using the Compounds and Polishes (3 step).

Sealed with Optimum Gloss Coat.

LSP with Collenite 845.

3 weeks ago tried the following as a maintenance:

Optimum Poli-Seal on white Thinpro pads and DA.

Collinite 845 on red Thinpro pads and DA.

Easy to do with minimum time and excellent results.

ONRW&S as required for weekley touchups.

3 weks in and still looking very nice.

I don't think it could even "make a dent" in the Collenite let alone the Gloss Coat.

It may be a waste of time but it was my time and I now have a proven technique for myself on my car.

lol Don't feel bad. It's about getting the right information so that we as enthusiasts or detailers continue to educate ourselves to avoid mistakes. He got me curious and figured why not ask those that have used optimum AIO's. More of an oops and lessons learned if anything. Will save his wallet for next time.

Taking your comment out of context but sometimes the Optimum world is a confusing place.


On a completely different note, GPS works best by machine but is far more ordinary when used by hand
 
Funny I get jumped on for this response and Mike does basically the same thing in November 2016 thread and only good reviews.

I will apologize for jumping on you. I did not intend to come off as attacking you. My intent was to pass along the information that I gathered so that you or anyone else would be aware for a future use of these products. In the end, I want you to get your money's worth and the performance for products you have purchased. Forum talk doesn't always come as normal talk.

No need to keep quite. Everyone is here to help each other along. There will be the occasional butting of heads. I have had those experiences on this forum with others. Not hiding that. Keep on posting.
 
Late to this, but fascinating that you can put Opti-seal over Opt coating to protect it while it cures. That seems like a waste of sealant, but also an ingenious way to coat a car that can't be kept out of the elements long enough to cure.
 
Its not a waste of opti-seal...it would be a waste of the coating if you didnt do it. Ive used opti seal on top of gloss coat a couple of times(I dont have a garage) and the coating is still holding on after a few months.

Fair point. Did you mean the sealant is still holding on?

Does your forum name indicate that you represent Optimum, or are you just a fan? (Or neither?)

Nah just a fan.

Either the sealant is still holding or the coating...its kinda hard to tell TBH.
 
Late to the party in this one.

I have never used any Optimum Line products.

I at one point last month almost went all out with Optimum.

I am heavy with Wolfgang right now just because I am a huge fan, however would not discount Optimum as an option.

I like to put together spreadsheets on matter and here is what I found.

ASSUMING ALL FACTORS REMAIN STILL as far as percentage of product used per application etc etc:

Dollar for dollars ounce for ounce; also with Wolfgang I am taking into account the dedicated products per task vs Optimum multi use products...

With Optimum it can save you about 40% vs if you went with ALL Wolfgang products.

Optimum , if every single positive review is proven, sounds like an AMAZING full line while being cheaper compared to some/most products.

Not the cheapest but certainly not the MOST.

No offence taken.

I will continue to post what works for me and my experiences with same.

I do alot of experimenting and I know I'm spending tons for products, I will probably never use up.

It's my choice and my fun.

Well interesting response.

First off I did not say it was my maintainence routine.

It was a test of a better way to get the final shine I wanted.

The abrasives in Poli-Seal are fine and with the white pad I used, I doubt they removed the Gloss Coat (the wax yes).

As for my wallet, well it's my wallet and so far it says Optimum Products are good to go.
 
Limited experience ... have ONR wash and mixed into detail concentration too.

Yes, it shines-- to me a weird shine. The ONR wash doesn't seem to clean as good as Griot's Spray Wash. ONR is like shooting lacquer over dirty panels.

The Detail, concentration isn't too special either. Again the shine is different tha. Many products-- optical brightners?

I will also try the detail concentration with Klasse SG... my go to, is Meguiars + Klasse. Or for detailer alone Griots Speed Shine. I read a post on one of my few threads that Optimum + Klasse SG works great as a detailer.

I'll keep experimenting...
 
^^^ I like ONR only as a rinseless. For waterless I like Opti-clean much better. Unfortunately it has a perfumey smell that stinks up my garage so it's out. Would not use ONR as a QD. So many other good QDs out there no reason to use ONR (imo).
