Help ME pick my next car

They aren't more expensive, they're just nowhere near on the same performance level as the Vette. Obviously the G35 is more of a luxury coupe than a performer, but even the 350Z doesn't come close to the Z06.

I'll have to give the S2K another look...I do love the way they look. If I were looking for a touring type car I would definitely look into the 350, they have great fit and finish.

So you want performance out of the box with no modding, then go for the Vette. I'm sure you will enjoy a Vette, I know I would!

Well, yes. I don't make THAT much money and while I'm sure a G35 or a 350Z could outperform the Z06 with a good bit of modification...I want something that I can enjoy as soon as I purchase, thanks! :props:

Z06 for me too!!!
Thanks rohnramirez :)

B6 S4. end thread
Wow, that's quite a radically different suggestion. I believe i've looked at those before..I think they have the same engine as the B7s? Talk about a sleeper. They also have Recaro seats IIRC. What about maintenance on them though?

As far as people talking about the Corvette's hard clear...I read this thread and it's the reason I was scared about the C5 clear. Even Mike Phillips admits that it's hard in his new Camaro Clear thread.

No. Not in a straight line or even around a track. A Z06 is basically a race car sold to the public. They weigh less than 350z's and have more power. They're also cheaper to modify; old push-rod tech is mod friendly. You would have to supercharge/turbo the engine to surpass the vette in power and install coil-over's and what not to beat it around the track.

I agree.

Notice I said a good bit of modification :)

Good luck finding a C5Z in decent shape for $24K! You'll find coupes for that price all day long, but the C5Zs I've seen that weren't beat to death are usually $26K+

If you want a "weekend fun" car, have you considered a 60s-70s muscle car? You can pick up a very nice ride for your price range. Just an idea.

If not, may I throw in the Mitsu Lancer Evo??? It is different, quick, low maintenance and a lot of fun. I have a regular customer that brings his in and we do basic maintenance. It hasn't needed anything else and he is close to 100,000 miles.

Personally I would rather have a 2005-2007 Corvette for that little bit more money. To me the C5, while having great exterior lines, had one of the worst interiors I have ever seen to the point where I would consider even a cloth Camry an upgrade! While the interior of the C6 is no award-winner, it is at least not so cheesy that it is distracting with rattles, excessive wind/road noise, and feel. A base model C6 will handle pretty much just as good, has just about he same power that can easily be bumped up well beyond the C5 Z06, and throw in a targa-top, and you got yourself a hell of a weekend car that you will also want to take out every weeknight you get the chance to. The C5 Z06 is a thrill (though not as much so over the C6 as you would think), but can quickly get your nerves with its shortcomings.

As for the other two, Mustang's have a clutch that is so heavy and a chassis that handles so horribly, it boggles me why in the world you would ever consider one. The GTO is a great car with little short comings, but given a choice between it and the Vette, my choice is an easy one. Just think to yourself, you are at the bar, and someone asks. Which would sound and look better, 'I have a GTO', 'I have a Mustang SVT' or 'I have a Corvette'.

Me? I am a BMW guy and given that money, would without a doubt get a BMW, but I know how to work on them myself and don't mind the extra maintenance; don't let people fool you either, they are a little more expensive to maintain and it can be hurtful if you don't know what to expect. Even being a diehard BMW fanatic, I have always had a soft spot for Corvettes.

As a mustang guy who comes from a vette family let me say that I think that the new vettes are a step up in the looks department on the exterior but leave a lot to be desired on the interior, The 03-04 cobra (terminators) accept mods very very well and are a few upgrades from 600 horsepower at the rear wheels and will b e bullet proof at this level. The Stang will mod a lot better and cheaper than the Vette will and Mustang guys are everywhere. Go with the Cobra all the way.

I have considered the Evo but they are high on insurance (I am only 19 years old, by the way, so insurance is a factor; although, the car will not be insured under my name, but under my parents (So it won't be the expensiveness that comes with being 19). To give some prospective, the insurance on my brothers C5 Z06 is $1,000/yr, my black 07 Cobalt LT is $2,000/yr, and my 09 Cobalt SS is $3,000/yr. Ridiculous, huh?

I would love to get an old muscle car...a 70's Barracuda or a Chevelle...a 67-69 Camaro would be super nice. I don't even know where to look for muscle cars though that won't rip me off. Any suggestions? A Barracuda would just be plain sex.

My brother has a C5Z and knows everything about working on them. He does admit that they have shortcomings though. Interior rattles aren't excessive but they are present. In HIS opinion I should get a C5 FRC (looks like the Z06 with the hardtop but has base LS1 motor) and put something like an A&A supercharger kit on it.

The only problem with that is...mustang guys are everywhere. In my circle of friends that like cars:
'96 SVT Cobra coupe
'95 Mustang GT Convertible
'94 Mustang GT Coupe
'95 SVT cobra convertible
'01 Mustang GT coupe
'03 Mustang GT Coupe
'02 Mustang GT coupe(supercharged)

And I smoke every one of them with my 2.0L Turbocharged Cobalt. It's embarrassing for them, to say the least.

No joke, that is my circle of car friends. Every single one of them has a Mustang except for my friend Morgan, who has a 95 Z28 Camaro. I guess this COULD be seen as a positive in some ways....but I'd be just like all of them.

If you are considering a muscle car, the best place to start is look for your local car clubs. Mopar or Cuda clubs, chevelle clubs, etc. Those people always have a hookup and know people who are interested in selling their car to get on to the next project or whatever.

I have had a 69 Cuda, a 69 Chevelle SS (now my sisters) with a 427, my current race car, a 70 1/2 RS Z/28, a couple of El Caminos and many others that I don't have time to list. My father also owns a 69 Chevelle SS 396, all original w/78,000 original miles. Owned it since Dec '70.

I must say that I am shocked that insurance on a Vette is less than any other vehicle you listed. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

I was shocked as well when my parents told me that. I thought for a while that they were mistaken but they weren't. I guess the insurance tables take different things into account.
How did you like the Cuda and Chevelle? I love the Cudas...

I liked them all. My Cuda and Road Runner both had 340s. My Chevelle had a big block and there is no comparison. I won't put a small block in any muscle car I have. Big blocks are too much fun.

My cousin had a 71 Cuda in high school. 340 4 speed car, it was dark brown and had a factory luggage rack on the trunk. It sounds ugly, but I thought it looked great that color. I also had a 72 Challenger 318, auto that was fun too.

Lots of choices, makes it difficult to decide. Especially with all of the innovations and additions to the older muscle cars to make them run and handle like the newer stuff.

Well I'm still undecided at this point but so far I'm leaning towards a Black '02-'04 C5Z or FRC :)

Wait..so its' going to be your car, but your going to say that it's your parent's for insurance sake...

Nah, it's going to be "theirs". It will be in their name and they will "own" it. I will be paying for it however.
