Polishing Fail, I feel like giving up before it even started.

In the grand scheme of things, there's no way you would be better off doing it by hand. Look at the positive side, you were able to remove the swirls and scratches, now all you have to do is figure out how to get rid of the marring, or at least minimize it. You'll figure it out, just like I have faith I will too. :dblthumb2:

And that's a good point.

It's important to remember where you started from, you've removed most of the major defects so now all you have to do is dial in a process to build-on the results you've already achieved.

To date, whenever I've run into any micro-marring problems on paint the Wolfgang Twins have always proven themselves to fix the problem.

Usually the Total Swirl Remover will finish down micro-marring free on soft paint, but if there is any micro-marring then the Finishing Glaze remove it.

White polishing pad for the TSR and a finishing pad for the Finishing Glaze.

Take heart... with the helps of the forum members here on Autogeek Online we'll see you through to sucess...

You can't ask for much more than that from a great forum like this! :dblthumb2:

As a side note the Griot's polisher is VERY strong. It will take considerable pressure to stop the pad from rotating so don't be afraid to do so.

I have never heard of 85RD not working except on special clears. You can try 3M ultrafine, but I would try 85RD 1st.

Update:

Well same results.

I primed the pads with XMT Pad Conditioner for each pad.

I tried PB SSR 1.0 w/ white again.

then PB SSR 1.0 w/ blue

then PB SSR 1.0 w/ black

same results.

Tried SwirlX w/ white

SwirlX w/ blue

same results.

I tried using heavy pressure, also worked longer.

I did notice when I went from PB SSR 1.0 to SwirlX, the SwirlX made it look even hazier. So I'm guessing PB SSR 1.0 is less abrasive then SwirlX.

Maybe I need an even less abrasive polish then SSR 1.0 like 85rd everyone is suggesting.

I'm about to just cover up my whole car with PB Black Hole Glaze for now.

There's not much of an abrasive difference between the two, IMO. The PB black hole should definitely cover up the micro-marring.

Also, SwirlX is definitely more abrasive than SSR 1.0.

Maybe the difference will change things, who knows lol.
But I heard 85rd is great anyways so it's good to have around.

I don't know what to think now, this was my first time ever using a DA and I feel like I can't get rid of the micro-marring because of my technique. I feel discouraged to even touch any other car until I fix mine. I don't know if it's my technique or it's because my paint is ridiculously absurd.

Oh well.

What pad/setting should I apply PB BlackHole with?
Also, is it possible to do PB BH, Meg #7, then wax (MaxWax w/ Natty Blue on top)

edit: I remember last year I used SwirlX by hand but it never caused any micromarring, but at the same time I never really got rid of any swirls by hand with it using a microfiber applicator pad.

You're right, 85RD is great to have around and you never know.

You can use a black or blue, basically the softest pad you have. Use a slow speed, either 1 or 2. You're not working into the finish, you want it on top of the finish, and only 1 or 2 passes is needed. I have no experience with #7, so I don't know. I'd go straight from black hole to Natty's blue.:dblthumb2:

PO85RD or 3M Ultrafine. I've also had good results with Optimum Finish. Use any with a gray finishing pad, speed 5.

My Honda has extremely soft clear as well and these are the only products I can finish down perfectly.

Yeah, no point in wasting wax and time when I'm just gonna strip it all again and try 85rd in a week or so.

I'd love to get both 85rd and 3M Ultrafine ha, Optimum Finish also sounds pretty good plus I can buy in a smaller size.

I was actually going to detail my father's car for Father's Day after I experimented with my car which was supposed to be done on Saturday!

He drives a black Honda Pilot, great lol.

Optimum finish seems to fly under the radar. I bet it finishes just as good as the other two, maybe better? I'm going to buy some next order.

My recommendation to you, get some 3M Ultrafina and a black or blue finishing pad. Speed 5 until the marring is gone and the polish starts breaking down, then slow to speed 3 and lighten the pressure and slow down your passes a bit. See if that helps. Wish you were closer. heh I LOVE challenges like this!!!

I hate this! Especially on my first time ever haha.

I never knew polishing could be so complicated..

I'm with you man, I'm having issues with my product drying out after only 3 passes. I agree, these guys make it look very easy! But with practice, patients, and a bit of cursing ourselves, we'll one day be looking back and say "I never gave up and l@@k at what I accomplished!"

I had a dream that I met a local guy with 3M Ultrafine and was gonna let me use it!!!

Anyways, I remember last year I used SwirlX by hand w/ MF applicator pad and I never got any micromarring from that, though I also didn't really correct much swirls lol. Is micromarring like a DA thing?

Also, the temperature here have been in the mid 80's w/ humidity in the high 60% and low 70%

I was sweating my ass off working on the car in the garage, could that have also greatly effected how the product worked and the results I got?

Well just glazed half the car with PB BlackHole, that didn't really cover up the marring but it made them a bit less noticeable. It really did cover alot of swirls but I was still able to see alot.

After putting PB Natty Blue, I could barely see the micromarring. Does that have fillers?
