Review: Ultima Interior Guard Plus (UIGP)

It can undeed be applied on cloth seats, floor mats, carpet, etc. The suggest that for fabric you mist directly over the fabric and towel in.... Lets see... Here you go

"Ultima Interior Guard Plus is an excellent fabric sealant. Once sealed, fabrics and carpet will resist stains and fading. Before treating, fabric and carpet must be clean and completely dry. Do not treat a damp surface, as the sealant will not properly bond with the textile. To apply, mist over an area of fabric or carpet and towel in using a microfiber detailing towel. Do not saturate the fabric. Two light coatings are more effective than a heaving coating. Allow one to two hours of drying time before use. Ventilate the vehicle while applying and drying."

I don't bump threads often.... But when I do it's one that I think is worth a bump for new members.
Glad you bumped this because I didnt remember the above factoid. SO OLD members benefit too! Big Thanks Buddy!

Great review Corey! :dblthumb2:

I've been meaning to try this and tomorrow will be the day!

So as far as applying to fabrics goes, would spreading the UIGP around with nitrile gloves work better than using a towel? I would think the towel would absorb some of the product. Thoughts?

I have tried applying with both a foam applicator and a MF applicator pad. The MF applicator pad worked the best, I just put a little bit on the pad, then go until no product is being left on the surface, then add a tiny bit more.

Hi Corey. Did you use UIGP on smooth plastic (i.e. the plastic covering speedometer, radio display, etc... or only on 'rough' plastic, leather, vinyl...?)

Separately, similar to the question I asked about UTTG, is the UIGP truly expected to last months and months (conditions permitting)? I know it's only been a couple of weeks since you applied it, but has anyone else gotten several months of protection?

Thanks!

{EDIT: sorry, I just realized you started this in July of 2010, not 2011... also read in more detail and saw that you did apply to smooth plastic. again, sorry, I'll read more closely next time...}

Much appreciated too Cee Dog. This is a new addition to AG since I used to visit so it's very educational, and helps get up to speed with what should go on the wishlist.

You got it! Man, I love it on smooth plastic. That silver smooth plastic housing around the shifter, the chrome on the shifter... Sooooo nice!

As far as how many months I would say that soft tactile feel is noticeably weakened within a month. I have only really studied this on my Sky which doen't get a ton of traffic. The loss of that feel seems directly related to how often (or many times) it is touched. Hopefully Bill will pipe up on his experience as I know he has recently started using this product and is studying it on a daily driver.

I do get months of protection but I would reapply every 2-3 months at the most.

Thanks Jimmy! My pleasure :xyxthumbs:

Nice review. I really like how it didn't darken the leather like 303 did. The Sonax treated panel area looks like it is lighter than the UIGP side. I like to keep the factory look on plastics when possible. I know on the dash of my truck I've been using Eagle One nano interior spray and it doesn't seem to change the appearance but I'd like to try something different

Is UIGP safe to use on areas that a child will touch (i.e. the door next to his car seat)?

I didn't want to start a new thread but am I able to clean the car with Opti clean before applying UIGP? thanks

Yes, if applied correctly there will be no residue. It leaves no oily residue of any kind. Very dry to the touch.

Im not sure how much it will affect the durability but it will be fine. Maybe wipe the surface with a warm damp cloth between OOC and UIGP. Of course surface should be completely dry before UIGP.

Thanks Ceedog.
The car is fairly new and I'll probably clean it with a damp cloth instead of OOC.

I was thinking of doing the whole interior and seats with UIGP.

After 2-3 weeks on a daily driver the seats are noticeably less satin, though all the plastics and trim are holding strong. I think the abrasive wear & tear of fabric against the seat under body weight cause it to wear down more quickly.

I think re-applying on seats (that are used frequently) every 3 weeks would be a good schedule. The seats that are not used (such as the rear seats) still feel fantastic after about 6 weeks at this point.

Hmmm, maybe if you cut down on the front seat aerobics it might last longer...:poke:

I finally ordered me some UIGP. Im the MAN

Both our cars have fabric covered seats. How and what do you guys use to clean the fabric? Can't wait to feel the cashmere you guys keep talking about. :D

I ordered UIGP based upon CEE DOG'S review and could not be more pleased! This stuff is simply amazing! Thank you for doing the review and turning me onto the product.

I echo LegacyGT's comments that for high traffic spots like frequently used seats a more frequent application is needed. However, everywhere else is still holding strong at about the 8 week mark.

I don't think I can reply to that and stay within the forum rules regarding innuendo :laughing:

In the photo below it appears you applied the product to the red side, perhaps it's just the way you were holding it for the picture. I would think the red side would be the handle for the applicator and applying the product on the gray side since it looks like it's much more soft. May have been why you got that red spec on the seat. Can you clarify which side of the applicator you used?
