Can anything clean these wheels?

I have tried Optimum Power Clean, Surf City Road Trip, Dawn and elbow grease, goo gone.

It looks like the brake dust or something has baked into the clear or something? These are Sequoia wheels in Hyper Silver.

Maybe P21s finish restorer and wheel cleaner?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.

I would try a clay bar that should do the trick as the dust is probably baked into your wheels :xyxthumbs:

I am so glad that my 1st post was this thread. It seemed to create quite a bit of entertainment for many.

haha. I dropped some Britemax on my cat...it turned into a Cheetah. Really great stuff.

P.S. Britemax. Aaaaaand Britemax.

Sorry Flashy...don't hate me. It's just too obvious.

Ok I see what it looks like... wasnt TRYING to peddle it, I just like it.

And not gonna lie I just laughed my a$$ off for about 10 straight minutes on your post... pretty funny man, no hatin here ;)

I was hoping you'd see the comedy there, haha. We all have our "Go To" products. I tend to mention Malco quite a bit. That's cause cause I use their stuff everyday...so I can relate. Malco also turns my cat, into a cheetah! lol

Annnnnnd Malco. :xyxthumbs:

Just an update. I was able to try some wheel brightener. Thanks to a member who sent me a sample. It did not do anything to clean the whatever is on these wheels or behind the clear. Thanks for all the suggestions.

If optimum power clean(un-diluted) didn't budge the stains, I don't think Meg's WB will do much better.

EDIT: Just read your post above mine after I just replied. I figured it wouldn't help.

Were these wheels bought used?

I didn't read all the posts, but, is it just me? Looking at the texture to the metal in the first pic, it does not look regular clear-coating. Possibly powder coated? If so, the blemish is probably under the coating.

The color/look of the second pic makes me think hyper-silver, a two part color, translucent silver over a darker silver or black. The blemish could be the underlying black showing through an un-even top color application (it's tricky).

I doubt they are un-coated because of all the chemicals tried (WB) didn't cause problems.

Just some thoughts.

Edit: Just re-read OP, they are hyper silver. Likely the undercoat showing through, someone did some shoddy paintwork, sorry. That wasn't so tough to figure out now was it guy's?

how can you tell if a wheel is coated or non coated??

Take a little Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on a rag and rub it lightly in an inconspicuous area, if it immediately turns your towel black they are un-coated aluminum. Also, look closely, does it look like there is a layer of clear on it? :xyxthumbs:

Oh, did you guy's know that if you add a little bright max to some malco it becomes 100% bright max? (Flashyrides, I applaud your ability to see the humor, not explode and get all defensive :goodjob2:)

I did buy them used. I think you are spot on. They are Hyper-silver off of a Sequoia. I believe the runs and black are behind the clear. The weird thing is it happened over time because I did not by them this way.

 Strange indeed that it happened over time, no doubt it was a DIY hyper-silver paint job.

Everyone has mentioned that megs WB wont strip clear coat.

If thats true. I would love to know why it caused the clear on one of my wheels to flake off..

You used Wheel Bright on only one wheel, one time, and the clear came off? Whats the story, how do you know WB is at fault?

Its not on the whole wheel. Only in a few spots.

I had read that if you do it on a curb rashed rim, it could get under. But I sprayed the whole wheel, but I only focuesed on a spot where there was a weird build up of what I thought was caked on break dust.. The front facing wheel spokes and and inside one of the spokes.

After I sprayed/scrubbed and didnt notice a difference. I sprayed it off real well then used simple green to make sure all the acid was washed away. I inspected my work the next morning. And I noticed that the clear on one of the spokes looked funny where I focused on. I picked with my nail and the clear came right off! The areas it came off were the spots I thought had caked on break dust.

So Im not sure if the clear was already going and the WB finally killed it? The wheels looked much better when I picked off the nasty clear.

Ill see if I can take a picture tomorrow.

Simple Green to wash away Acid? That doesn't sound like the smartest plan. What happens when the butoxyethanol (AI for SG) reacts wrong with the ammonium bifluoride (AI for WB)? Ammonium bifluoride will react to form hydrofluoric acid (corrosive) with an acid; and it will form ammonia (corrosive) if it reacts with a base. Either way, you can damage clearcoat if the concentrations are high. Next time, you may just want to stop at water or use something neutral.

Well, you sound like you know what your talking about. So Ill just use water for now on.

I thought I had read to use a APC to make sure no acid remained? I dunno, the finish is definitely jacked though. Ohh well.

Hi everyone! I wanted to come back by after all these months and let all of those who offered their great advice and insight know last week I finally was able to have a day off, and spent a great amount of time on my Jeep and especially wheels. I followed the advice I got here, and now, with some work and 0000 steel wool and WD-40, the chrome wheels are once again shining after an entire winter of harsh weather and corrosion!

I also just made another order from Auto Geek that's being delivered today according to tracking! :) It's for my new baby and crowned jewel, something I've been hoping, and saving for over the last few years now dollar by dollar. My dream car... 2009 Mustang GT California Special which I have some AMAZING plans for, some of which have already happened! (Sound system, industry-best radar detector with discreet install, 22'' one piece chrome wheels and tires, and more planned for the spring)!

I am going to my first car show Saturday.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone, and also ask if you have a quick moment please check out my new post right here and let me know if you have any feedback please: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...-vinyl-racing-stripes-some-swirls-smears.html
