DA Microfiber System……VW Touareg(53 Pics)

Very nice results--I really want to try them now! You didn't have to sand out any of those deeper marks? How many passes to buff them out?

I didn't have great success with MFDA system the first time I used it, but it's hard to argue with results like this. Looking forward to giving it another shot before writing it off. Great turnaround!

Excellent job, Nick!

Do you use M105 differently than you would D300?

Also, you only used speed 3 with the Griot's? That's only 4220 OPM's. Speed 3.5 is 4650, and the speed 4 is 5080. I got these numbers directly from Griot's. Any particular reason you don't try to get as close as you can to 4800 OPM?

Like I said earlier, I've had a lot more time with this system than most, and that's given me a while to perfect my use of these pads over a long period of time. What works for me, may not work for you. But I've found that slower is better with these pads. Slower machine speed combined with slower arm speed, gives me the results I need. Now this is not true with every single vehicle. Sometimes I find myself having to turn it up just a bit, but I don't ever get too high on the speed dial, at most about 4.0-4.5. But like I said, this is just what works for me.

No sanding what so ever on this vehicle. It's a daily driver, and he really wasn't prepared to pay that much for a vehicle like this. He has some classics, in a small collection that he pays for perfection. But for something like this, he just wanted it "pretty good".

If you read my review of the system over on MOL, I actually hated this system with a passion when I first got my hands on it. Despised it! But after some guidance from Kevin Brown, I was able to work with it a bit more, and it's become my favorite method for cutting. Only thing I can say is don't give up just yet. Keep working with it when you have the time, and try different approaches. Don't do the exact same thing over and over, and expect a different outcome. Play with it in different ways and see if you can "fine tune" it for yourself. I'd be happy to talk to you over the phone if that would help you. I know Kevin's words helped me tremedously when I was struggling with these pads.

One of the biggest challenges (especially for the rotary guys) going to the new MF DA system is getting into the mindset of "slower is better"...that concept is just the opposite of how your mind wants to work when you put a polisher in your hands.

It reminds of a story about two bulls...one young, the other much older....

Great save! Love that color, and your garage too.

So true! And that was one of my biggest challenges also! In fact, I still have issues with this today. I have to keep reminding myself throughout the entire vehicle, to just slow down! lol!

Wish that was my shop, but it isn't :(

Wow, Nick, that is probably the most hardcore one-step I've seen! :xyxthumbs:

Great job!

And I'm loving the tips in the rest of the discussion too! Thanks!

Great work as always Nick! he Tooorag looks better than new! :dblthumb2:

Is that how you spell it? I don't understand why they have to make the names so freaking complicated. How about VW version 6.5.9? lol :D

Hahaha! Yeah, I get a kick out of their names too...for some reason it seem their SUV names are just out there. :D

So were you actually using Megs cutting MF pads...or were you using surbuff's ? (i ask because you said you've been working with it for a long time and megs pads havent been out that long...unless of course you were one of the lucky few to try it out :) ).

If you wernt using surbuff's...have you ever tried them...and if so what was your experience with them. BTW, any dusting issues with the 105 and the MF pads?

He clearly states in the thread title, "DA Microfiber System".

What did the use to wash that thing? Der Brillo Pad? Nice work!

I completely understand your reasons for not sanding--I'm just surprised some of those flaws came out with just buffing. How many passes did it take?

To me the 'system' would include the D300/D301...but he didn't use that...so thats why im asking...plus like i said...the Megs MF's have only been out a short while

Yes, I am one of the "lucky" ones. I've been testing these pads for a little over 4 years now. Yes I have used Surbuffs, and somewhat liked them. They never really blew me away, or pulled me away from my rotary buffer, but I have used them a fair amount of time. I mainly didn't like them because of their short life span. But we all have our own little quirks I guess ;) lol!

Seriously though, Surbuffs are a great product. They just weren't for me, I guess.
