WOW, did you guys see this fight? complete bullsh*t, ortiz got knocked out with his hands down while trying to apologize to floyd. ill agree that ortiz deserved the left hook from floyd for headbutting him, but definately not the knockout straight right.

I agree with you ride...I didn't see the fight but I did see the clip on youtube. It was pretty ridiculous. Yes...Ortiz intentionally head-butted (actually it looked like a chin-butt) Mayweather, but at the same time, Mayweather should have been a PROfessional Athlete about the situation. It was a B*tch move...and I lost respect for him.

yeah most definately, i lost respect for him as a person a long time ago. that said, you cant deny that hes the best pound for pound boxer on the earth. the guy is on a different level than anyone else.

i hope pacquiao whoops his ass tho:P

I've become a MMA fan, they are the true fighters... I read somewhere Mayweather was paid almost 40 million? ridiculous!

Mayweather is really talented but that was a cheap sucker punch. I wonder when he'll stop ducking Pacquia so we can know who's the best pound for pound.

I don't know why people keep saying he's ducking Pacquiao. From what I've heard, and read...Pac wouldn't take the drug test. That, to my knowledge has been what is holding up that fight. If he doesn't take the test, then Mayweather won't fight.

I highly doubt he's ducking Pac simply because he hasn't ducked anybody. I mean he's fought everybody!

As for the fight...I didn't watch the whole thing. But I did see how the fight ended. Ortiz shouldn't have attempted the headbutt.

This is one of those things, where you have to look at it from Mayweathers eyes. Ortiz tried to headbutt...how can I get him back? Well, knocking him the #### out when he's not guarding himself with legal hits is a pretty damn good way to start! lol

Plain and simple...yeah, it wasn't a classy knockout. Was it legal? Sure was, which is why the ref counted. Nobody said you have to hug and kiss after someone tries to headbutt you. Ortiz got caught with his pants down, and paid for it.

That being said...the REAL problem with this outcome, is that it leaves no actual closure to the fight. Who's to say Ortiz wouldn't come back, and win the fight? All it really did was amp up the rematch (which there will be, I'd put money on it). You think Mayweather made money on this fight...wait till the rematch! He's gonna be making it rain in the streets, ha.

By the way...I'm not a Mayweather fan. But, I feel him on this one...Ortiz had it coming. That was a forceful headbutt attempt. A straight clean headbutt can cause quite a bit of damage to a fighter. A few quick knockout punches with gloves on is just gonna ring your bell for a bit...but you'll be fine. Bring on the rematch...I'll buy this one! lol

I heard about it on ESPN earlier and just watched the clip....Mayweather did it right. They were talking on ESPN how a box always has to keep his hands up. Ortiz didn't do that, and Mayweather saw it and took advantage of it.

I mean, if Ortiz thought he could head butt him, I guess that's what he gets in the end.

Yup, I have to agree. It sucks, but it was legal and kind-of justifiable.

It was a classless move by Mayweather. It was revenge, premeditated and a slap in the face to the true spirit of competition. However it was legal. Ortiz's headbutt was spontaneous, out of frustration, anger, but illegal. You can say Ortiz's headbutt was unprovoked, but if you watch Mayweather's behavior from the beginning of the fight and throughout then it becomes clear as day that he is a master of getting under people's skin and he did just that. And if that wasn't enough, he manages to berate Larry Merchant after the fight when confronted to answer for the cheap shots he took. He relishes the antagonist role and he played it perfectly.

I will also say it was an entertaining fight and well worth the price of admission (for the entertainment value that is).

P.S. Pacquiao, not Mayweather, is the best pound for pound boxer in the world.

Pretty "class-less" finish to an overhyped fight.

MMA > boxing.

sorry, but thats like saying green is better than blue. its relative, some people like boxing more than mma, some like mma more than boxing. i love both, each has honorable fighters and each has its douchebags.

IMO, ortiz deserved the first left hook that mayweather hit him with, but not the second punch that knocked him out. this way ortiz did somethign dirty, so did mayweather, and now the fight continues. fans woudlve gotten their moneys worth, and there would be no excuses to who "should have" won the fight. to be honest, i think mayweather wouldve won anyways, but because of what he did now theres controversy.

yeah the rule is keep your hands up, but its about being honorable and sportsmanlike. its too bad he didnt just leave it at the left hook, then ortiz wouldve been angry and the fight wouldve gotten REALLY good.

guess well have to wait for the rematch:P

mayweather is too experienced and skilled for ortiz. ortiz's cheap shot of a head butt was obvious since he knew he was wrong by going over to apologize a few times. he should of never let his guard completely down and if you noticed the referee was looking outside the ring and not really paying attention till he got KO'd. there's nothing really left for mayweather, both he and Pacman have proved themselves and fighting each other is all that's left...

No need to apologize. I was just stating that I prefer MMA > boxing. I realize all sports have their "honorable" and "douchebag" athletes.

I agree with you that Ortiz deserved the first punch (left) and there wouldnt have been much debate if it stopped at that. I also strongly feel Ortiz gave up and could have continued the fight. He seemed to realize he wasnt going to take the fight and was content with taking his paycheck and getting out of there.

haha, im not sure if he couldve kept going. when he fell down it looked like he was seeing quite a few stars. a straight right from mayweather isnt a light punch:P im dissapointed that he KOed ortiz. i can imagine the fight getting 10 times better if he just left it with the first punch. ortiz wouldve been angry and started to try to get back at him, while mayweather would be angry from the headbutt. either way i hope he gets his ass kicked by pacquiao and learns to stop being cocky.

absolutely. if its not pacman mayweather, no one cares. they need to get this fight going, mayweather said pacquiao's next after ortiz. pacman is fighting marquez soon, we all know how thats gonna end.

Regardless of who you support or your opinion of class or sportsmanship, the FIRST rule of any type of combat is to protect yourself at ALL TIMES. Ortiz could have apologized for the head butt AFTER the fight was over.

sure, but in practice there are exceptions to that rule. i mean come on, if a guy is apologizing to me im not going to take advantage of that moment to knock him out. besides, if u look at the replay, ull see that ortiz JUST started to walk away after the hug when floyd clocked him, he didnt really give him a chance to get his hands up. its common courtesy to acknowledge his apology and let the fight continue on a clean slate.

i dont believe its all about the hard written rules. there are other things to go by in addition to whats written down in the books. personally, if someone shows me enough respect to sincerely apologize, i will show him enough respect to accept the apology. in boxing and mma fighters dont really apologize after the fight, its more of a "in the moment" kind of thing.

then again thats just me. i think its like taking candy from a baby.

we might just have to agree to disagree :dblthumb2:

Personally, I don't care too much at all for Mayweather as a person, although I don't know him except for what I see in the media. But I think he has the fastest hands in boxing. I also know that in previous fights he has hit opponents right after the referee breaks him from a clinch; if I have seen it, why in the world didn't Ortiz (or someone in his camp) prepare him for that possibility? Mayweather has never been known for "sportsmanship", or humanitarian gestures while fighting an opponent in the ring, his goal is to WIN, by whatever means. I mean, if he realizes that he can't knock an opponent out, or that he might get knocked out, he'll stay away and win a dull, uninteresting, boring contest, and the public be damned. Isn't that why he won't fight the Pacman? Anyway, I refuse to pay my hard earned money to watch him fight a hand picked boxer he thinks won't give him any trouble, the only person I'll pay to watch him fight is the one who he seems not to want to get in the ring with. I was just disappointed that Ortiz didn't seem to realize what type of opponent he was in the ring with, and that with so much at stake he neglected to follow such a basic tenet of boxing.

Proof why boxing is down the tubes. Men are paid millions and they show no class

It's sad and pathetic. Boxing used to be a well represented and respected sport. This fight is a perfect example of why none of this is true anymore.

"Protect yourself at all times and obey my commands". You hear it before every fight. That said, bush league move...
