Megs MF System

Yep...first three is what I see in my car. And last last pic, I feel the MF system should have taken out the scratch...it doesn't look deep.

In the last picture I posted? I think what your seeing as a scratch is actually a piece of chrome trim on the camera.

Note also, those first three are prior to using the MF cutting disc with D300.

Hey Alex,

[*]I've found when working on some paints that I actually get better finishing from the D300 when I keep the sections size smaller, maintain moderate to heavy pressure throughout the entire work cycle(4-6 passes), and use very slow arm movement (1 inch per sec). Do not reduce pressure for the last few passes.

Hope this helps,
Rasky

I of course agree on the small section size but am curious about not reducing pressure at all for a final pass? What harm would this do?

I am just started doing things as such so I do not have everything I need by any means, for example, the only pads I have the Megs MF pads.
I do have some Opti Pollish II (use this by hand for under door handles and such) that I considered using on the Megs Finishing disc but doing a final light pass with the D300 and cutting disc corrected the problem I was having.

The key to what I posted in the above quote is "some paints".

When you reduce pressure pad rotation and movement changes drastically. If you're getting poor finishing from D300/MF with lots of hazing, try playing around with different techniques.

Also spend some time reading this. ;)

The MF cutting pad/compound will definitely dull the paint. You can obviously see it a lot more on darker colors. On the flip side, it does and amazing job on removing defects without leaving behind holograms. Follow up with a finishing polish/foam pad and you should be good to go!!

and what would you recommend as a follow up Mark,as you have more experiance in the mf system than I....just curious.

This is what I do as well. I follow up with Optimum Polish II on an orange or white foam pad.

Tim, I follow with Optimum polish II most of the time on a white pad. I'll follow with optimum finish on a black pad in rare cases.

LOL I know right?! I think I was just so anxious to use this product.

Mark...so I have a question....this is supposed to be a system. Why would you just use one part-D300 and then use something different? Isn't there something else that you've used in the past that works just like the MF and D300? I'm seeing/reading more and more people are just using the cutting disc and D300, but then switching to something else to finish.

ppl are doing it for various reasons, they want the faster cut but don't necessarily want the protection that the D301 provides (it is an AIO) b/c they want to put on a sealant or something else and having to strip it would be working backwards.

Also, some feel that foam with diminishing abrasives finishes better (usually the case with softer paints)

Thanks for your reply Mark, Are you using flat pads? and are we talking soft paint or harder paints.

the new optimum pads are avaiable any thoughts?

:iagree:with Tim here....fast cut with Mf and better finish with something else.....the system works very well but us OCD folks go beyond Hence the addiction!

Yes, this IS a system, but people seem to always overlook the fact that it was developed with a target market of high volume/production shops and auctions. That's not to say it can't work well for high end detailing, since it's pretty obvious that it already has (Mainly the pads and D300). But when it comes to the final finishing, most high end detailers are looking for more. D301 is a great product that delivers a nice finish on most paints, while also leaving behind good protection, which is perfect for high volume work or costumers only wanting shiny paint. However, when it comes to getting the absolute most out of your paint, finishing with a dedicated finsihing polish and topping it with a dedicated wax/sealant, will always yield a better end result than what an AIO can deliver. ;)

hi.. do you know if 6 DA system fits on GG 6? I´m asking because the size of the backing plates are the same......

yes the 6in mf pads will fit on the gg6 standard bp but the pads may run hot of you don't use the megs bp with the shorter loops.

May not be an issue for you if you use compressed air to clean them as it helps keep the pads cooler.

hey ..did u end up doing your car yet?..im curious to see how it turns out

and mods.. i did hid fogs 6k and just re did the interior in leds. i want the remote starter too. I hate how cold it is in the mornings..wish we had heated steering wheels. haha.

I started but stopped quickly after. I ended up picking up the Wolfgang Twins and it came out great. Hopefully the sun will stay out long enough for me to take pics. I'm curious as to how you changed your fog lights. Could you PM with how you changed them out? I'd love to do that with mine.
