For 05.12.2012's "new word of the day":

Regicide

Definition: The killer of a King; the act of killing a King.

-Prior to the below thread's occasion, there have been several threads, on various detailing-forums, about the "Death" of Carnuba Waxes...
...Seemingly, up until recently, as always being deemed to be: "The King" of LSP's!!

-Being that I refuse to be labeled as leading such a rebellion; or, enjoining in any act that could be interpreted as:Regicidism;
I'll allow the aforementioned, current thread (05.12.2012) of AGO forum member HSJ, (aka: "LDYKLLR"), itself, speak as to the demise of carnuba waxes.

"To Be, or Not To Be"...?!?! (~'The Bard')

"The King is Dead...Long Live the King"!!

For the 05.13.2012 "new word of the day":

Pastiche  (pa-steesh)

Definition(s):
1. Assortment; collage; collection; compilation; disarray
2. Caricature; lampoon; mockery; ridicule; invective

We've seen and heard of folks that will apply, film-layer upon film-layer, a pastiche of:
Various "Last Step Products" (LSP'S) to a vehicle's clear-coat paint film.

-Some may say it's their creation of an artwork.

-Others may ridicule this "practice"...
(And, as sometimes it should be expected, this pastiche is usually met with some form of resistance/hostility.)

The King in my neck of the woods is named Neglect.

King Neglect reigns over the populace with an iron fist.

My mission is to bring about the end of the King's rule, one vehicle at a time. My regicidal methods employ skills, product, and tools needed to defeat King Neglect; and, the information needed to prevent his resurrection.:autowash:

The New Word of the Day: 5/4/12

Recalcitrant (ri-kal-si-truhnt)

Definition:
1. resisting authority or control; not obedient or compliant; refractory.
2. hard to deal with, manage, or operate

Source: Dictionary.com

A rotary polisher can be recalcitrant in a novice's hands as it will want to jump out of their hands due to improper technique.

Today on May 4...

1923 New York state revokes Prohibition law (makes me want to watch the Untouchables)

1976 Kiss performs their 1st concert

The recalcitrant waterspots were difficult to remove.

Ted's word of the day (referenced: Hegemony - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

Hegemony
  1. Preponderant influence or authority over others.
  2. The social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group

More vehicle owners should subscribe to the Autogeek hegemony.

What happened to the times when most kept their cars clean?
The pride of ownership, and the desire to be seen?
Nowadays, the public seems not to care care.
And our ideals? They do not seem to share.
Detailing keeps the vehicle as close to pristine.

May 13, 1846: President Polk declares war on Mexico. Congress overwhelmingly supports.

"new word of the day" for May 14th, 2012:

Quantitative

Definition:
1. Expressed or expressible as a quantity.
2. Of, relating to, or susceptible of measurement.
3. Of or relating to number or quantity.
4. Capable of being measured

On this day May 14th, 1607:

-English settlers arriving under the authority of the Virginia Company of London chartered by King James I established the first permanent British settlement in North America.
These same English settlers found out soon enough that there wasn't a quantitative amount of food to supply everyone for the need for survival. Some perished...

-Quantitative analysis, by use of an electron microscope, would be one tool to determine if the practice of:
"Layering"...an assortment of: Last-Step-Products (LSP's)...is a worthwhile process, or not.

:)

Now here's another quandry that I'm facing concerning 'LSP'.

Back on topic: I have a customer that wants a coating prior to a June trip...

I still have my doubts concerning the protection and durability offered by coatings.
How can so little product offer quantitative protection?
I guess that I'll soon find out first hand.

On this day 2007: DaimlerChrysler sells most of Chrysler for $7.4 billion.

For consideration: this "new word of the day" for 05.15.2012:

Mendacity

Definitions:
1. Untruthfulness
2. A lie, falsehood, untruth
3. The tendency to be untruthful
4. The act or process of lying

On this day, May 15th, 1905:

{For VT :) }

--Las Vegas, Nevada, is founded when 110 acres, in what later would become downtown, are auctioned off.
Once gambling had been established as a legal form entertainment, many folks that have "lost their shirt", at the gaming tables,
have accused the proprietors of these gambling-houses of being mendacious.

--IMHO...An excellecent reason for any Detailer to perform a:
"Walk-Around-Documentation" of a vehicle's overall 'condition', (so to say), [with a customer/client in attendance while doing so, I would like to add],
is to eliminate said customer/client from forming, and then proclaiming, accusations of a Detailer being mendacious, upon the return/pick-up of their vehicle.

:)

Bob

The detailers perceived mendacity,
of the product makers veracity;
has led to wholesale abandonment -
due to customer disillusionment
of the detailing pitchman's audacity.

May 14, 1908: first passenger flight in an airplane.
May 14, 1948: US grants Israel de facto recognition.

*Relaxation is more of a mental challenge, than a physical one for me these days. Too many outside issues.

Some days are better than others.
Rainy morning, then abundant sunshine.
Just planted a half dozen blooming marigolds raised from last years seeds.
The sky is grey and sullen...hopefully will get some work in from Wed. forward.

Spent most of the day at gastroenterologist in Silver Spring; followed by a nice red/blue line metro train ride home.

Happy detailing to all...:autowash:

Feel free to post your own NWoD forum friends!!!

Thank you FUNX725 and VT for keeping up on this thread! Your contributions are definitely appreciated! I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was amazing to say the very least! I am tired but oh, it was so worth it! I actually came in Monday night but got in at about 1am and had to get up for work at 4, hopefully it is understandable why I did not post yesterday. Albeit, I did not go to bed last night until 12ish and woke up around 330 this morning. Hmm. I am going to be pretty tired again today! :(

The New Word of the Day: 5/16/12

Spruik (sprook)

Definition: To make or give a speech, especially extensively; spiel

Source: Thesaurus.com

The detailer tended to spruik about all of his services that he provided, totally negating the idea of asking the customer what they wanted and what their expectations were for detailing their vehicle.

Today on May 16...

1817 Mississippi River steamboat service begins

1866 U.S. Treasury Department authorizes nickel

1965 Spaghetti-O's 1st sold

1971 1st class postage now costs 8 cents (was 6 cents)

2005 Sony's PlayStation 3 makes its debut at the E3 trade show

Anomaly (ə nómməlee)

Definition:
Irregularity; something that deviates from the norm or from expectations;
peculiarity;strange; difficult to identify or classify

This may appear as anomalistic , but, in lieu of a spruik, instead, I hope it will suffice to say:

Glad you enjoyed your time away!!

Paradigm

Definition:

1. One that serves as a pattern or model.
2. A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality,
for the community that shares them.

On this day, May17th, 1954:

-The United States Supreme Court ruled unanimously in Brown v. Board of Education , ruling that racial segregation in public educational facilities is unconstitutional.

1. This ruling brought about a paradigm shift towards the fulfillment of our Constitution's 14th Amendment, as well as, the eventuality of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

-As for paradigm definition: 2. (listed above); and, IMHO, how it pertains to: The AGO Forum's owners, staff, and members...I could not have expressed it any better!
