    Thank you Mike Phillips

Wow. I don’t know if AGO will recover from it. Hope it will, fingers crossed. But it is like losing Tom Brady. He was/is so important for the field, like a codifier, put things on simple terms, straight to the point. But I’m just a guy from another continent, and was he ever important to my...

How many passes to take off a coating?

The fact is that you'll never be completely sure that you removed 100% of the old, cured coating unless you sand it. Especially if the coating to be removed is the new breed of top notch coatings, where the coating adhesion to the clearcoat is almost like a fusion to it. If you fail to remove it...

I would sell it all and start your future with a clean slate. Four years is a long time.

Need Admin. Cant clear notifications? Not registered?

I'm having the same problems, Mike. Probably the underscore in my nickname. Could you please change it to RPM.BR? Or RPMBR, in case the dot is a problem too.

Favorite Follow Up To Rotary/Wool Compounding Step.

The follow up after cutting with a rotary/wool/Menz400 combo would be determined by the clearcoat hardness, and thickness. Nowadays we have better finishing wool pads, like the LC hybrid wool pads, leaving less swirls to be removed I prefer cuting with rotary and wool under the 1000 rpm range...

Need help: polishing super sticky paint.

Jason Rose on his recent visit to Asia addressed this problem. He used a Rupes polisher, UHS, and short working cycle, like two to three passes, no pressure. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=3LJ83_0MMhw

clear coat repair gone horribly wrong......

If the clear is hard as you said it, maybe after the 3000 wetsand it would need it a 5000 wetsand after. When the clear is hard, I try to avoid wetsanding, since it becomes a pain to remove the marks afterward. I would have started with wool and menz 300 instead of wetsanding, to test the...

    Opti-Coat Pro Applied - Have Questions/Need Help

Whatever the price the detailer charged you for, I think it is the detailer's responsibility to achieve a flawless, or a near flawless finish, before applying the coat. A coating will seal the defects, and correcting afterwards implies in removing it through heavy polishing. If the detailer...

New RUPES Tools + New Pads + New Product!

To make an analogy, I would say Rupes is Apple, Flex is Windows. Advantages and disadvantages on both sides. In the Rupes environment, more control and guaranteed results in beforehand. Costlier, though. In the Flex environment, more freedom of choices, but you have to develop your own system...

Wet Sanding: What did I do wrong?

Nobody is chiming in, I'll see if I can help you. First, you have to be sure if the clearcoat is completely cured; press your nail in the border of the piece and see if it leaves nail mark. Second, when I wetsand with 1500 grit, I do it by hand, and only in one direction. Third, what LawrenceSA...

    Rupes pads bouncing/grabbing the surface.

Imho, menzerna, long stroke polisher and open cell pad don't work well together. Open cell pads, like the green pads, require a compound with a thinner emulsion, like UHS, for instance, to be absorbed by the foam, and then released slowly during the polishing cycle. Only the yellow and white...

Acronym frustration on this board lol

The journalist rule for acronyms is to write the full name first in the the text, and the acronym in between parenthesis, like Ultima Paint Guard Plus (UPGP). Since it is already stated in the beginning, you can refer to it later as an acronym.

    Best Cut to Finish Product?

You'll need a product that cut severe swirls, but with a good finishing ability. Ok. But it will be dependant of paint system, polisher and pad choice, and polishing technique. Too many variables. Still, Fg400, Griots Fcc, Sonax Cutmax, m100, but probably I would stick to m101.

    LC Hybrids on XFE

I've never used the XFE, but I believe it is similar to a Rupes 15. If your polishing style is to put some downward force when polishing (I do), thicker pads are the way to go. Although Mike says that 'thin is in', this is what bothered me about thinner pads, the lack of cushion. I believe...
