A meet with a fellow Geek

Thanks :dblthumb2:

I don't think we'll use the 105, then again you never know what product will work best being paints can be very different.

Plan is to use the Wolfgang Über Compound.
Then 205
Wolfgang Glossy Paint Sealant.
Seal the exterior trim with Wolfgang Trim Sealant.

When working with 105 I find the smaller the working area the easier it is to work with plus you get better results.

The Über is such a pleasure to work with and I get stunning results with it as many others do as well per reading some reviews.

If you never tried the Über buy yourself a small bottle to see if you like it, I think you'd be happy with it. :dblthumb2:

I'm looking forward to pics and vids:dblthumb2: If you use 105 take some vid as well. I get good results with 105 but still trying to perfect using it. I think its really cool you are willing to teach a fellow member, I wish you guys were closer.

Thanks :dblthumb2:

Do either of you guys have Wolfgang Finishing Glaze or Menzerna SF4000 on hand? I would use this over M205 on German paint.

Not trying to rank these polishes just give a bit of opinion on what works for me.

Thanks :dblthumb2:

I found working a smaller section worked better as well. I plan on picking up a small sample of the WG UC. I have used Menzerna FG400 and liked it but 105 is still a good bang for the buck. I liked 205 and havent had any problems working with it. I have just made it a norm to wash after correction to get rid of any dusting that might have occurred.

We had a blasts I mean such a couple of great guys, Grady and Eric.
Grady got here in my town an hour early, excited as I was.
Then Eric got here right after Grady and I clayed and taped up.
Eric came with his brand new, never used Rupes 21 which I had the pleasure of using, wow, so smooth.
Grady had his brand new never used Cyclo and that was one of the smoothest machines I ever used.
I had my GG6 which went out on me half way through, too bad being it was only a few months old, lucky I have a lifetime warranty, I'll see how I'll go about sending it back.

Grady's BMW came out flawless, so pretty of a car, I'll load some pics of our day tomorrow, I'm exhausted right now. Lol
I'll give my reviews on some new products I used for the first time today.
Both or on their way back home, both have a long drive ahead of themselves, hope they get home safe.

More to come.

^ :applause:

Glad everything came out great and yes the Rupes is a really smooth tool

{{anxiously tapping foot, looking at watch, deep sighs of annoyance...}} C'mon already! You're killing me over here!! :D Let's see the Polaroids for Christ's sake!!

Oh man was it a fun day. started out getting up at 4:30 after not being able to sleep and driving 2 and a half hours. yea we made an appointment for 8:30 but arrived at 7:15. I was excited and couldn't wait. man Kevin is an awesome guy. started off explaining the basics and started claying. Then Nick came and he was a great guy. We all tackled the car together and thanks to nick we were able to get it done in the nick of time. I don't think this day could have gone any better. Well if the GG6 didn't go out then it would have been a perfect day. But man does my car look freaking awesome. can't stop looking at it. feels so nice having a swirl free car. Now tomorrow if the weather stays nice I will finish the trim windows and wheels. I will take pics and post them when done. Man am I sore. I'm going to sleep well tonight.

Really really REALLY cool day you guys had! Kudos to Kevin for having you all down. :dblthumb2:

We'll be waiting to see the new before and afters, 50/50's, video's etc. Just make sure that if it's a new thread you post a link here in this one. ;)

Glad too that y'all didn't freeze to death, sounds like you got back home just in time Grady! :props:

Oh my, Kevin may end up ordering a Rupes after this.
(Which is why I'm glad the GG6 has a LIFETIME warranty!) :)

Got a late start this morning but arrived at perfect time for taping & compounding. :xyxthumbs:
Was great meeting Kevin & Grady, both cool guys! A pleasure to work on a very nicely kept BMW (Such a fantastic color!). This was a nice first tryout for the Rupes 21 as well as Grady's Cyclo! This car saw 5 different machines working on the paint! :buffing:
Have to thank Kevin for providing the place for the get together & Grady not minding us working on his sweet ride!
Drive back wasn't bad, but before posting, helped out with the little one, ate dinner, and watched the Saints win! :dblthumb2:
I'm finally winding down and hitting the sack (told you guys I was a late nighter). Until tom, signing off.... Eric

First want to say im sorry for being late for posting pictures and the fellowship of our day but to be honest I just don't feel good, not because of the work we did on this beautiful BMW but more about my back still isn't right, in fact another surgery is near but enough about my say story. Lol

Grady and I had planned to meet at Wal-Mart near me at 8:30, the dude was so pumped he got here at 7:30. Lol
Still having my coffee I said no problem lets get this started:dblthumb2:

Loaded 90% of my detailing supplies and took off, when I get in the parking lot I see Grady in this BMW Coupe, I was thinking of an avg. four door BMW but when I saw him I said you gotta kidding me, the dude is in a car I've never seen on the road, sweet like Grady loves saying:)

The car as I saw it for the first time.

We head over to my brothers shop,we got there and inspected the car, not bad but not perfect, know what I mean?
The car only had slight swirls but had a few scratches that I just couldn't get to show up on camera so really no before pics.:(
Sorry just wouldn't show up.

Then another member here called me to ask if he cold come over, I told Eric sure, the more the better.
Want to say both of them were very cool and easy to like:)

Grady had along drive, Eric had close to a two hour drive but still wanted to come meet us.

Will continue on another post...........

Continued.......

Some before pics

Grady and I clayed his car, pretty nasty stuff was remove from the paint.

Grady claying

20140104_102632_zpsbb1f4d4b.jpg

What I picked up on a small area on the hood, some places was worst.

20140104_102308_zps1f69f60d.jpg

At this point Eric showed up just in time to tape up.

Grady start in the back

20140104_115008_zps888fb25b.jpg

Eric looking over watching Grady carefully taping.

20140104_115640_zpsb7efd5b2.jpg

Eric had the pleasure of taping off the front. Lol

20140104_115621_zps87ce5075.jpg

So the car was all done with taping.

Grady using Eric's light looking for defects, he was starting to understand what we were about to do, correct the paint.

20140104_115938_zps1626769e.jpg

Grady taped our test area but found out the worst part of the car was closest to the windshield.
Eric look out his new Rupes 21, never used before still boxed up.
He used a Meg's five inch MF cutting pad along with Blackfire Compound, we watched waiting to see the results of our test area.
The BF didn't do anything in removing the scratches so I took my WG Über and I gave it a shot using the same pad along with the Rupes, what a super fine machine, I want one now. Lol
Anyway BAM, all gone, flawless finish, the Über was a success:dblthumb2:
So we put the BF away for another day.

Grady using his new Cyclo, this was his first ever attempt in using any machine, new to deatailing, I could tell he was like in the land of OZ. lol

20140104_125610_zps37b5ab5d.jpg

At this point we gave the hood to be corrected to Eric with his Rupes, Grady and I talked some Going over using his machine, technique , etc

Grady working the door panel, must be nice to be young, no stool for the young dude. Lol

20140104_153905_zps3454aa80.jpg

He had concerns of burning the paint, he didn't use much pressure at first, so I brought him outside to show him something, we used my truck for this.
I cleaned off an area of my hood, took my GG6 using an orange hex logic pad with Über , I put the pad onto the paint, turned on the machine on speed 6, I put a lot of pressure and held it in one spot for about 20 seconds without moving it, wiped off the Über and he saw I didn't burn the paint so at this point he understood that pressure is needed and that it's almost impossible to burn pain using a Cyclo:)

Me working with my GG6

20140104_131924_zps862dbbd9.jpg

I let the two guys finish with step one, we were almost done compounding.

So I started the second step, almost not needed being how well the Über finished down but had to follow through.
We used the Grady's BF Finishing Polish, this was my first time using it and won't be my last, so easy to work with, long work time and wiped off easier than my 205.
I did the hood, the entire drivers side then my GG6 with out, dead.
Tomorrow I'll call about shipping it off for repairs or replaced.
We finished the car using the Cyclo and Eric's PC.
The car was ready for the lsp.

Grady bought a tub of Blackfire Sealer Wax.
All I can say is OMG, great stuff, so easy to apply and wipe off easier than any of lsp I ever used.
The car glowed once done, amazing product. :dblthumb2:

Some after pics on the next post.........

So the car was complete, below is some after pics, now tell me this isn't a fine car:)

I want to thank Grady for trusting me to show him a few things about paint correction using his car, big thanks to Eric for coming down , if not for helping us we had no shot in doing this car in one day , plus I had a chance using his Rupes 21, 5 Star machine:dblthumb2:

Big thank you to my brother for allowing us to use his shop and making coffee throughout the day for us.
Thanks to my wife for bringing us burgers, we were starved, we didn't have sense to think of stopping to eat on our own. Lol

I had one hell of a blast with Grady and Eric, I thank you both. :dblthumb2:

Wow, what a great day. I do hope your back improves and the griot's is taken care of without problems. Thanks for posting the write up and pics.

Looks like a great time, awesome job. :xyxthumbs:

Thanks:dblthumb2:

Man it was a fun day, the car came out close to flawless, maybe 95% was corrected.
There were a couple of scratches that were just to deep and would take some sanding which we didn't have time for.
IMO its ready to be brought to a car show, for a 99' model he's sure to get a lot of votes.

Oh wow the car is a 99, looked a lot newer. Glad it all turned out great. They always seem to turn out great. I actually have a garage and a set location where I can throw another SoCal Meet up. (Hmm???)

Have you gotten to use the Flex yet? I love my Rupes. Those deeper scratches that you were talking about, if they need to be sanded with 3000 or all the way up to 1500 the Rupes and Uber compound could easily take them out. (I would prefer to use the wool hybrid pad for that type of job and I know cos I did it at my job. It was for dirts on a repaint with 1500)

Great job though guys :props:

Looks like it from the photos. :xyxthumbs:

The scratches sound like those I have on my Jeep, too deep to get out safely so I have to live with them, just glad it's White so they really don't show.

I would say it's like 90% and that's as good as it will ever get unless I have it sanded down 100% and a few coats of clear put on.

^ Yeah I have scratches that I just live with on my car. But no big deal really.

It does have dirts that weren't removed when it got repainted. I could easily take them out, but ehh no big deal.
