Anyone else having undesirable UIGP results? Please help!!

I had the same issue with my 2010 Prius. I had applied it to the dash when the car was very hot and in the sun. I let the sun go down reapplied and all was well. The splochiness occurred after about 3 hours. No problem with the leather seats.

Yes your right. What I meant was I cleaned the dash first. Then I applied the UIGP, had the issues, then did a deeper cleaning. After using Deep plastic cleaner, and reapplying UIGP the issue cleared up. Sorry for the typo.

No need to apologize; it would seem from feslope's testimony and yours that cleaning can be an issue and that the product can be successfully applied to (at least some) Priuses.

I was thinking of using that product and asked about it (see earlier thread) and was told it was much more serious product than a normal interior detailer. I was led to believe it was to the inside of a car what Opti-Coat is to the outside.

I don't want to fool with either one.

Nah...I think it's more to the inside of a car what Opti-SEAL is to the outside, nothing to worry about.

Interesting replies. Thanks to all of you for adding to this thread. It is very possible that the dash boards that I had problems with were not deep cleaned enough. I like and use Ultima brand products for the last steps on most of the higher priced multiple stage details that I do and I love the stuff. I'm more inclined to believe that the problem lies in my prep work on dark colored plastics rather than that there's something wrong with the product itself. After reading through this thread and talking with a few seasoned professional detailers, I think I'll just use a water based product that I already have on this particular Range Rover.

I'll continue practicing to tweak and enhance my prep work for the use of UIGP, just not on this Rover that is opening the door to 2 other higher end vehicles. Thanks for all the replies.

Good call. Let us know how it works out with the UIGP, I love the idea of it if I ever use up all the other interior products I have.

Mark, have you had any issues using UIGP with less than favorable results? If so, did you remedy any issues?
Dave, I had splotchy issues with UIGP on my z06 interior. Not nearly as bad as the Prius interior, but still noticeable to me. I think it all comes down to the same product reacting differently to different materials.

Is that a white PDMS dressing like 303 and most others? Or is it something different?

You're confusing me...you mention 3 cleaners and no protectants. Did you mean UIGP instead of UISG in the first sentence? If so, you are saying you had the same problem as Dave with the UIGP, but recleaned and then it went on ok?

Yes, the Wolfgang Vinyl/rubber protectant is a white sprayable water based product kind of along the lines of 303. But it dry's faster, darkens the dash, leaves no reflective shine, and after you buff it off, is incredibly even everywhere and non-tacky/wet. It also smells so nice and classy. I cant explain the scent, but its very light and neutral. Kind of like that coconut/suntan lotion scent.

you mentioned PDMS, you lost me there, what is this acronym ?

I had problems with UISG on a ford fuzion I did a light cleaning with very mild apc. It just didn't look right when I was finished applying uigp, kinda hazy. I had just received my bottle of Iz deep plastic cleaner. I decided to strip it all off and reapply. That made all the difference in the world. I guess I hadn't prepped the surface good enough. With that product being a sealant tells me that if there is remnants of old dressing left it not going on uniformly.

Just FYI, Both 1z products, Cockpit and Deep Plastic cleaner leave behind a sort of protectant. There not just straight cleaners. So I would not recommend either for stripping a surface to apply another product. although they work hand in hand with each other or other 1z interior products.

My thoughts: Try the UISG instead of the Megs APC. Maybe APC affected UIGP. I never had a problem with UIGP. I also switched from APC to OPC.

I have tried 1z and Meg's QID and feel and see no difference besides price.

Just poor the Meg's into a fancy boutique bottle for the high end cars.

agreed. But I do notice slight differences in both products. Most noticeable that 1z cockpit is a lot easier to buff off streak free, and it also drys completely, while Meg's feels like something is left behind that you need a second wipedown a few minutes later with a dry towel again. I usually wait 30 minutes and dry it off again after using it.

But for the price, yes, they are both extremely similar products and Meg's is an amazing deal in gallon size.

Do you spray the surface them wipe down or spray a mf applicator or towel then wipe?

If you use the second method, you can often not need to buff down a second time.

Mark,

I think you've touched on something very important! Another possibility is our perceived appearance or how we "think" it should look once applied... :props:

I've used it in several different interiors and while some seem to rave about it I'm not a huge fan at this point....:dunno:

I use 2 towels to work on the dash. One towel is for applying and the other one if for wiping completely dry.

I spray the product into the towel, then wipe down the interior. And I immediately follow up with a dry towel.

I feel that Megs QID is a great product and is basically foolproof. I just noted what I though was different between it and 1z cockpit. WHich is that 1z drys up easier.

Sorry to hear Dave, to be honest last year I took a chance and applied WG exterior trim sealant to my dash and interior vinyl/plastic. (Ford Taurus) Not only did it look fantastic, but a year later still holding up fine. All i do now is wipe the dust off the interior.

t I need a suggestion for an out of this world interior protectant that has longevity of durability and stellar looks. Help me please said:
Try a small area, but as I stated in my previous post, I applied WG exterior trim sealant to my interior. Looked great, and 1 year later still protecting.
