Blind Samples

Liquid souveran ;)

Very cool! I have been wanting to try it for some time.

Thanks for the great blind review toxygene! The left side looks slightly darker to me. Is that just because of the angles of the 2 surfaces relative to the ridge of the hood? In other words is the difference based on the location of the sun?
Which side is liquid Souveran and which DG?

Sorry, I meant to explain that and completely forgot. :) The DG 601/105 is on the left, and the "liquid wax" is on the right. I will go back through my pictures in detail later to see if I can figure out if it is the angle or not. Clearly, though, you can see the tape line through the middle which is slightly lighter than either side.

How did I miss that tape line. Now that you mention it I certainly see it. The firt time I looked the tape line blended with the right side. I think the right side is slightly lighter then the left side.

I've always felt DG #105 darkens the paint a bit, and this backs up my conclusion. :xyxthumbs:

I have a picture at home with 4 different lsp's that show the same thing, the tape line is lighter than the 4 test areas.

Richard got a new phone :)

Hopefully I can try my batch again this weekend Corey.

No new phone Dwayne, just turned on the signature! My next phone won't be an iPhone I can promise you that. Droid...

I thought I remembered you saying you wanted a droid.

Also this weekend I got to try out two paste waxes that Tad (Dark Horse) sent to me as blind samples.

The two smell very similar, both a kind of coconut scent. One was a little whiter then the other but both are a yellow-white color. One of the blind samples was labeled WOWO and the other Haze then wipe.

I split the hood on my Bimmer after ensuring the hood was clean with an IPA wipedown. On to the test ...

The WOWO went on very easily and I was able to quickly lay down a very thin layer of the WOWO wax. Wiping off the wax was extremely easy, actually a pleasure to use on the very clean paint on my car. After the wax left a very slick surface and the paint had a very nice glean to it. As I mentioned above we had a very unusual overcast day here in South Florida, but I could tell the wax lent a high reflection to the metallic paint. Altogether a very easy to use wax that I would recommend to others.

The other was similar in properties, except for the need to let haze before removing. It was also extremely easy to lay a very thin layer on the paint and removal after hazing was also extremely easy. I thought this side had a slightly less slick surface then the WOWO wax. Again, the reflection was hard to tell in the overcast but they seemed to have a similar look on both sides.

Altogether I would use either wax, although I am not great at the whole guessing game. If I had to pick one I would have to pick the WOWO since it did not require hazing and seemed to be slightly more slick.

I believe the two waxes are MaxWax (which I have used) and Souveran (which I have not, only the liquid version). I did notice a difference as mentioned above, but for $55 difference between jars, I can live with the MaxWax.

Either way, I thought both waxes would make a fine addition to anyones collection. Thanks Tad for giving me something fun to do on a Sunday afternoon before Volleyball with my daughter.

Yes Jon, you are absolutely correct. Souveran paste and MaxWax. :props:
Glad you enjoyed them, I agree 100% with you, both are very enjoyable waxes...

Thanks for being very generous with your samples tad. I'm not sure I ever would have splurged on souveran.

Having used it now, it's a great lsp and I would consider it if/when I want a boutique wax.

That's not the first Souveran that the crazy elk thong wearing Tad has sent out.

Are elk prized for their apparent perfect thong making hides or can you substitute moose or reindeer?

I hear moose thongs make your butt look big, not sure about the reindeer.

You "hear" this? Please. Be honest and tell us about your first hand experience! :xyxthumbs:

It is definitely apparent that the DG side is darker in all of the pics I took. Looking at it in person it was very difficult to see that, though, but the pictures do show it. By the way, the only digital camera I have to use aside from my iPhone is a Canon SD780. It is a very small, light, and durable camera, but it unfortunately takes some very noisy photos. That's what I used to take these pics. I wonder if I had a camera with better image quality if the differences would be more clear.

Yeah, certainly looks that way from the pics. This is my first time using it. It was pretty easy to work with actually.

So probably most or all LSPs darken the paint a little bit?

By the way, I am pretty sure I read that Apple has sold around 50 million iPhones. They probably don't need your help at this point. ;)

I don't know about that.

I specifically avoid using LSP's that darken the paint on my silver Lotus because I prefer the brighter look on that color.

Opti-Seal, which I love overall, is not something that I care to use on silver vehicles because of it's darkening effect on the paint.

By contrast, Jeff's Werkstat does not appear to darken the paint. I find the same thing to be true with Colli 845 IW.

I was messing around with the signature in Tapatalk and forgot to change it. Thanks for the reminder.

The following pictures are large. I am not resizing them because I don't want to mess with the quality.

Do you feel Fuzion darkens the paint?
