As a WAG, I have some 5 gal buckets going on maybe 2 decades....
Sure the plastic carrier on the handle has broken, but those are replacable
The replacements are even -nicer- than the originals as the barrel is thicker

Fast forward to my dee-ziner buckets. I knew it was thin.....I just threw it into one of my orders as as filler for shipping if I recall.
It's the translucent clearish type.
It's so thin than after 2 or 3 years of the weekly washes, the hole where the handles go into have been stretched too wide - to the point that the hook insertion falls right out.

If only USP did a free shipping promo....I'd be all in for more buckets

I have been washing cars for many years. I have never bought a bucket. I have always used empty drywall buckets that I have obtained at construction sites. I put the better handles on them.

Should a Free Ship ever come back, I would not hesitate buying their 6G bucket to to replace my 5....
I've been wanting that slight extra capacity but spoiled by Prime on shipping, and besides...USP shipping rates are atrocious.

Mine hold a l little over 4 gallons but rarely put more than 3 gallons in them. That's heavy enough and enough volume for my needs.
3 gallons is 25 lbs. 5 gallons is 41 lbs. 6 gallons would be 50 lbs.

I have one 6 gallon bucket from dog food that I have a “bucket seat” on and I use it to sit and do wheels

My wash buckets are all plain translucent white cheap food grade 5 gallon buckets with magic marker fill lines

Several have Gamma Lids for rinseless and bucket soap

The 6G would benefit most on the wheel wheel scrub. I get maybe 2 wheels before I need to top off the bucket.....when I dip it to clean/get new soap. Overall length of the media on the stick (with dirt guardz installed) is pretty much bottom out to the top of the bucket

You need a roll-y chair. I got one of mine at Sears, the other one was from MSC (which were identical, except for the color), and I recently got one from Harbor Freight that wasn't bad.

Holy cow, these got more expensive since last year, I'm sure it was only around $80 then. I want to say the ones I got 20 years ago, which were made in the US, were $50-ish, but I could be wrong. https://www.harborfreight.com/professional-adjustable-shop-seat-with-tool-storage-red-58449.html

Anyway, I like 3.5 gallon buckets.

X2. I scribe 1 gallon, 2 gallon, 3 gallon and 4 gallon lines into the outside plastic and then fill those scribe lines in with a magic marker.
My wheel bucket is a separate bucket with maybe 2 gallons of plain water and my wheel cleaning brushes and mitts. I pull out the tool i want and then spray that tool with foam from one of my foaming pump sprayers after use then that tool goes back into the plain water till i use it on the next wheel/ tire.

I usually do wheels last with the remainder in the wash bucket.

Quite often, clear plastic buckets and foam cannon bottles are made from brittle plastic that is prone to cracking. Now, in that I mean the crystal-clear plastic, not the frosted semi-translucent buckets and bottles made from HDPE plastic. So, yes, these buckets look fancy in the product listing photos, but that crisp-clear finish quickly becomes unsightly, succumbing to scratches and cracking.

For a while, I was using this 10-litre / 2.6-gallon mop bucket, which.............................................. did the job.

These buckets I bought back in 2019, which are 15-litre / 4-gallon in capacity. There is nothing fancy or flash here, they are basic white buckets. I ended up buying 4 because they were sold as a pair with either standard grit guards, or the then new Dirt Lock items.........................I couldn't decide which to get, so I ordered both. Those were the early Dirt Lock's, which were an exercise in frustration and were eventually side-lined for normal grit guards. Again, another "fancy" option that didn't really translate into a superior solution.

From here, I started to customise those buckets. Now, before anyone comes at me for spending money on a flash looking bucket setup, there is a lot of form AND function going on here.

Being a Ford man, I guess the below is appropriate. In truth, I scored a bulk lot of those Ford decals, so they got put to good use. For some reason, the company that I bought them off decided paper decals were a good idea.....................................

Next, bucket dollies! I wish I had figured that one out sooner as it makes moving full/heavy buckets around so much easier. They also facilitate corner to corner seated wheel cleaning. Previous to that, I hated cleaning wheels, now its my favorite. About this time, those Buckanizer caddies arrived on the scene. I ended up using them for a while, but I would classify them as a pointless hassle, just one more thing to clean and pack away each time.

Then came the Gamma seals, which is probably where I will start losing some of you. I have these for both form and function. I like how they look, but they also keep the buckets clean between use.

From here, I wanted to colour coordinate everything with matching grit guards. I also wanted red and blue matching dollies. The black ones were from an auto store, but they have smaller wheels and lack the material thickness quality of the American-made Grit Guard versions. Of course, no one sells them in Australia, so cue ordering them out of the USA at considerable cost. The bigger wheels make less noise and roll smoother.

I then finally tracked down an MTM bucket bracket for the foam cannon, again, for wheel cleaning efficiency. Sadly, the bracket doesn't work with the updated wide-mouth PF22.2.

So, there is a mixture of fashion vs function going on here. Visually, I like how they look, but that doesn't really make a difference to functionality. But then the gamma seals and superior dollies not only look good but serve a purpose. I'll also say that I use these things so often that I'm happy to spend the extra money if it means a superior user experience and functionality.

I have several translucent Autogeek brand buckets. I checked measurements on side and they were a little off (nearly a quart). They are so old the o-rings in the sealing lid are brittle.

I also have bucket dollies but do not use them. I need to find a home for the dollies.

Ha, I have one of those AutoFiber buckets like that, I was going to give it as a gift but then didn't, I guess I should check the "calibration".

Man some of you guys take it to the next level. I was using the buckets I got with my meguiars wash buckets detail kits from Costco for almost two decades, the old black square ones with custom grit guards made from overhead lighting grates. I'm all fancy now with a Home Depot bucket and a real grit guard. Yep, a single bucket. Don't tell anyone but sometimes I use the same wash water to wash 2 or even three cars....

I used the orange BORG buckets for a long time* but then got a kit with dolly and grit guard about three years ago. It’s black. Then they had a sale at the rag company on a set for rinseless with sticker, grit guard, and dolly. It’s white. They don’t function any differently but tend to use them now. Still use the plain old Home Depot lid though my wife has offered me an excess gamma seal lid. I’m considering it.

REALLY tempted by the clear buckets like ADS is selling. I need it like a hole in the head. If the ADS was the same size as my other buckets I might have grabbed one.

* probably right at twenty years on the oldest of the orange buckets and ten years on a blue one I grabbed up to differentiate when I need to.

I LOVE that foam cannon hanger, I use my cannon for wheels as well. I always wear a pocket T shirt and swap the yellow spray tip for the foam cannon many times during the course of a set of wheels. I rinse my brushes and woolies before dunking them each time so my wheel wash soap stays cleaner and I foam at least twice per each wheel

I had a mechanics stool years ago and on concrete it was quite nice, but my current driveway is asphalt and stuff doesn't roll so well

Plus I honestly need to stand up and stretch and flex my ancient destroyed knees between each wheel so moving the sitting bucket and wash bucket from wheel to wheel is therapeutic
