Guys, any of you have extremely sensitive skin when shaving?

Brush and soap will work better than canned stuff plus it'll last much longer and smell way better.

Astra Superior Platinum blades seem to be the default for most face/skin types and are of excellent quality, shave well with different razors and readily available online.

Your razor and blade combo is exactly what I have used for the last 3 years. Works great for my face. Careful with the feather blades as they are the uber sharp blades. Might want to get your technique down before you use them.
Yes shaving soap will improve your shave, canned goop has extra chemicals in it to make it stable in a compressed can. Taylor of old bond street is good affordable shaving soap.

:iagree: Astra Superior Platinum's are great. I am a Feather man myself just because I have a very corse beard and they are the sharpest blades you can get.


When starting wet shaving, its always a good idea to get a sampler pack of blades and find what blade feels best on YOUR skin. It's all dependent on what your face reacts to.

Using a shaving soap and brush is 1000x better than that canned goop; can't believe it! And I definitely enjoy the shave better than with an electric! It's great really!

2 things that occur to me... 1 is pretty stupid - you're lathering your face again when you go against the grain, right? I know a lot of people with the habit of not doing that, but you have to.

Second is angle and how you move the razor. You want to try and use your arm, and not your wrist when you do it. If you get the angle wrong it will feel grabby, too.

I think Gillette sent me a Mach 3 on my 12th birthday. I always had issues with irritation. Then I started shaving in the shower, prep with a scrub. I started with ZIRH scrub and then switched to Every Man Jack when ZIRH got too expensive. That has worked well for me for many years. I use Gillette Fusion Pro Glide blades.

Wow, the above pic is almost the exact setup I have thanks to this thread. I have the 38C but the rest is the same. I have found the biggest difference has been using the brush and the cream to lather up. Works way better than the gel I used before. Haven't tried shaving soap yet, but happy with the Taylor of Old Bond St cream so far.
Give the brush and cream a shot instead of the cans.
 
I love my safety razor! I have such sensitive skin and now that I switched no more irritation. I use a pre shave oil lather up some shaving soap and go to town. Just make sure you do a 3 pass shave there are a ton a videos on it... And also make sure you either take a nice hot shower so your pores can open up also wash your face.... Then when you are done splash some cold water on your face so your pores can close up
 
I couldn't be happier with all my shaving items. My face feels a 100 times better with no more irritation. I would have never thought going back to the old school method would worth this well but I am glad I did. I get so much enjoyment out of shaving i look forward to doing it.

Anyone looking for info about wet shaving needs to check out Manic59 on youtube tons of info from mark and breaks down everything.
 
I have my lower face is super sensitive. I have tried multiple electric razors, all giving me burn. I even waited the 3 week transition period like they recommend in book. Right now, I`m using Schick Hydro 5 with Gillette Sensitive skin gel. I have been looking at going single razor lately. Whats a good site to read up on and pick up some items?

I had a roommate who would have to shave every day. (He hated it) I would get somewhat jealous because I wish I could grow a full beard.

I can honestly use the BIC razors in my car and shave that way... (of course not while driving)

I do grow a goatee and a light stash that's about it.
