Meguiar's D166 Ultra Polishing Wax

Okay...so I just went out to my truck...was checking the small area I'd put the D166 on...and I felt what I can only describe as 'grit'.....like I had some bonded contaminants that needed to be clayed......which I don't. Keep in mind, I only applied a small amount by hand and spread it....I did not work it like I normally would an AIO. Is it possible that what I'm feeling is abrasives that I did not break down? As a side note...the Speed was applied the same way...and it feels the same.
It's likely because you didn't clay, feel the rest of the truck and compare

I am gonna revisit that panEl tomorrow morning....maybe clay it and reapply the products and see what happens

Just used it for the first time. Very impressed! It works very smoothly, doesn't dust much. Cleans up swirls great, much better that D151. I'm not crazy about the smell. My half gallon left of D151 is probably going up for trade hahaha.

Here's a 2001 Mercedes E320 107,000 miles just bought by the customer. I used a green pad and Makita PO5000C in gear driven mode:

This (wet ) picture of the car after washing will give you an idea of the paint (hint: horrible.)

After polishing (but before headlights):

Does a great job swirl busting but it still gets hot. Ive had it in for service and they added bearing grease but it will melt a pad if you ride it hard.

I get the feeling this is one of those products I'm going to let it work itself through the forum for about a year and then start using in a way the consensus has figured out it fits.

After swapping between speed and d166 since it's release I've found exactly where it belongs in my arsenal

80% of my business is 1 step polishing. I go through a lot of D151. It's a good, cheap product. D166 (after 1 use, on 1 car) cuts the swirls faster and leaves more of a mirror finish (on black.) D166 also leaves less dust to clean up, and the dust it does leave doesn't stick as tightly as D151.

But, and this is a BIG BUT, D166 is 2X the cost. So...maybe that D151 is NOT going on the trade board.

Come to think of it, a lot of my business is black vehicles.

I had a trailer stolen out of my driveway a while back. A neighbor got a good look at his black truck. I thought, " Ok, I'm going to look around and see if I can find this guy."

I had no idea so many trucks were black.

I tried so d166 out this weekend on a black car with my MkII 15. i worked it with a white thinpro, orange thinpro, and a yellow rupes pad. I felt the yellow worked the best. I then used the yellow on an F150 silver metallic that had some light scratches and some water spots and was thoroughly impressed as was the owner.

Did the yellow Rupes give the best correction and finish?

Cruz,

If you feel that you are experiencing abnormalities or undesirable results with your product, please call the customer care number on the back of the bottle and they will gladly help figure out a solution. To date, you two are the only ones who have mentioned excessive sweating, but we would like to gather as much information as possible so that we can determine the cause if possible. Based on my conversation with Matt, we were looking at a few options to try and dial in the process and see if it goes away. I am sure he will share his results when he has tested a few new methods.

Let me know if you have any other questions - thanks!

should I ask to speak with you since you are already familiar with what's going on ? I really thought it was just living in the desert and I just needed to mix it up really well before use

Hah, well, I don't usually handle customer service issues but I got involved on this since it was so close to launch and I am watching it closely. You are more than welcome to PM me your phone number and we can speak directly if you want to pick my brain.

I don't think the heat is the cause, nor would I expect everyone in hot and dry areas to experience this as we did quite a bit of testing in those specific conditions without issue. Just let me know what you want to do. Thanks!

How has this been doing on trims for everyone?? Any staining??

Ok I see your point about the price of the product...

Have you factored in the time saving? If D166 has a better cut, that means you can complete the detail faster, right? So that save you time and time is money. I am not sure how much faster it is compared to D151, but let's say you save 30 mins per detail, that is a lot of time out of a gallon of the product. Surelly you would have a win compared to the few extra bucks for the product... no?
