New Word of the Day

I can't help but think of Homer and the crew in Springfield everytime that you mention your work

Have a good shift and keep safe.

lol believe it or not, that is the running joke/ comment base that goes on around the plant. I thought I was the only one that thought that when I started working there, however I was definitely in the majority.

^^ Thank you both for your contributions! Off to start getting ready for work! Today and tomorrow (which I picked up a day of overtime) are my last "days on nights" for a month. WOOOO!!!!

Zealotry: Was originally a political movement in the first century Second Temple Judiasm which sought to incite the people of ludaea provence to rebel against the Roman Empire and expel it from the Holy Land by force of arms...the zealots have been described as one of the first examples of the use of terrorism.
* From Wikipedia

Zealotry: excess of zeal: fanactical devotion. Merriam-Webster's Dictionary.

1. The detailer, zealous in his methodology, but lacking in his pricing structure (due to the market forces), produced excellent finshed products, but at the expense of a low profit margin.

2. Zealous devotion to certain product lines on AGO put said posters at a disadvantage in their descriptive analysis as to which products products are more effective.

3. The zeal of the newby, in his quest for perfection, is diminished at the realization that not all finishes can be brought back to perfection. This takes place usually after large expenditures on various products/proceedures to correct his previous mistakes.

4. In their zeal to express their opinions, many posters miss the intent of the OP's statement when responding to a thread.

@VT: Excellent word...Excellent 'used in a sentence examples', also!

Dejerate

Definition: Take an oath; swear to something

Taken from and per VT's #2 above:

Such zealous devotion to certain product-lines, as is sometimes witnessed on AGO's detailing forum, is often deemed to be, (as if in a Court of Law), abjudicated by dejeration of some of this Forum's members/posters, that, their favorite product-lines are, indeed, for example, the best thing since the invention of the 'wheel'...('wheel'=anachronistic definition of buffer?)

Bob

I really need to get better at proof-reading and typing. This is my first computer. 12/11.
I'm starting to lose some of my cb jargon in everyday conversation. 10-04?
Great metaphor there, Sir Bob!...if that is what it's called.

I may sometime in the future take:1.Computer class. 2. Photography class.3. Memory enhancing supplements from GNC, since I've forgotten what the third class was.

Gotta go - schedule awaits.

^^ Great additions guys! I promise I will get up the Word of the Day ASAP. I am extremely busy right now, I have a MRI on my knee here shortly and will add my contribution when I get back. When I got home from work earlier I had to go straight to bed due to my current activities and ensuring I could at least get 3-4hrs of sleep before my shift tonight. I apologize about the delays.

Thanks BigAl3, for this contribution!

-Just as Jesus forewarned: I hope and pray that, in the last days, I will not be misled into believing the false prophets and false Christs that will arise, masquerading as the Messiah, claiming to be the savior of the world.

“Jesus answered and said to them: ‘Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, “I am the Christ,” and will deceive many’ ” (Matthew 24:4, 5,)

Perambulator (per-am-byuh-ley-ter)

Definition:
1. baby carriage
2. an odometer pushed by a person walking
3. a person who makes a tour of inspection on foot

A detailer acts as a perambulator as he/she does the initial walk around of a vehicle with the client, explaining possible anticipations and expectations of the final results.

I wonder what the difference is between a perambulator and a pedometer?

I wonder what the difference is between a perambulator and a pedometer?

Isn't a pedometer: Something like this, and worn while walking/exercizing (on one's belt region/ankle area)?

And one type of perambulator: Something similar to this surveyor's tool (pushed baby-buggy style)?

Both calibrated for measuring 'length', I believe.

^^^^Excellent post...well thought out. , Sir Bob.

Quandry: A state of perplexity or doubt.

Quander: 1. To question and ponder at the same time. 2. to think, to consider.

As I type this post I'm quandering whether my scheduled 3-step for tomorrow should be approached by a different methodology; thus saving myself some time and the customer some clearcoat.:dunno:

Perambulator: Pushed, as in a wheeled device; as opposed to pedometer, which is usually attached or carried by a walker.

Foiled again, Batman...beaten to the punch!

Hope your MRI showed no serious injury...And that a regimen of physical therapy will be the "cure"!

Gadolinium

Definition: A contrast agent often used during Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to enhance these types of scans.
(Source: The Mayo Clinic's website)

Just a thought:

Just as an MRI uses a magnetic field to temporarily align the water molecules in your body; and, then these "magnetized" water molecules will emit radio waves to create, often with the aid of gadolinium, detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body...

Wouldn't it also be wonderful to have such a " gadolinium-tool" to: Take a 'Look-Inside' a vehicle's CC paint film...To actually observe the effects that one's 'detailing processes' will impart!!

:)

^^ Thank you guys for your contributions. FUNX725, hopefully I will find out soon! I was told my Dr. should receive the results or images on Friday so I am not sure when he will contact me. Just need to expect the worst and hope for the best, that way I am not disappointed.

Penumbra (pi-nuhm-bruh)

Definition:1.
Astronomy .
a.the partial or imperfect shadow outside the complete shadow of an opaque body, as a planet, where the light from the source of illumination is only partly cut off. Compare umbra ( def. 3a ) .
b.the grayish marginal portion of a sunspot. Compare umbra ( def. 3b ) .
2.a shadowy, indefinite, or marginal area.

There is a popular picture-type among us here at AGO where "sun shots" are taken and sometimes clouds create a penumbra for a visual aura on the freshly waxed exterior.

Outstanding post,Tundra 10. I went off on a tangent while researching something relative to post (to no avail)...definition: diverging from original purpose or course.

The hobbiest, while pursuing a flawless finish, tangentially switched her modus operandi. Therefore, settled on having a highly polished and sealed daily driver; with a few minor imperfections.

I started out on astronomy terms, and somehow wound up on Freudian psychology. The thought 'tangent' came to mind. :dunno: 1 hour later...my attempt at the New Word of the Day.

^^ haha! I love the new "daily avatar good buddy!"

New Word of the Day: 3/15/12

Altruistic (al-troo-is-tik)

Definition: unselfish

A detailer who is altruistic will have the happiest, most loyal customers because they know the detailer will put them first in regards to their "priority list" before his/her own.

Furthermore, they will know that he/she being altruistic will offer fair and honest pricing, creating trust and respect between the client/business relationship.

Altruistic (al-troo-is-tik)

Definition: unselfish

.

If I may, another "new word of the day" for 03.15.2012:

Egoism

Definition: The habit of valuing everything only in reference to one's personal interest; selfishness (as opposed to altruism).

somehow wound up on Freudian psychology.

In Freud's..."The Ego and the Id"...he set forth his theories on the psychological differences, and thus, behaviors of humans in regards to the conflict between one's self-interest (egoism) and their instinctual trends/drives (Id).

Of course Freud, and many others of his ilk, broke egoism down into further groupings. Such as:

Ethical egoism...Claiming that a person ought to do what is in their own self-interest.
Psychological egoism...Claiming that people can only act in their self-interest.
Rational egoism...Claiming it is only rational that a person should act in one's self-interest.

{And, as it so often appears to be, Freud intertwined this internal conflict with his theories of: conscience/unconscience-conflicts...as witnessed in his:"The Interpretation of Dreams"}

RE: IMO (My simplistic/layman viewpoints/interpretations, that is)...

One way to differentiate egoism vs. altruism in the 'Detailing World', would be to place the emphasis on:
-Consciencely doing what one deems to be: ethically, the right thing (altruism) for the Customer...
-All the while realizing that there may be an unconscience desire that causes one to be: Wishfully (dreaming?) believing...[egoism].
-And that these seemingly, on the surface, unselfish-acts will indeed lead to not only the return of said Customer, but "referrals", also.

[I personally see no harm if Customers, as well as one's self are pleased (Freud's : "Beyond the Pleasure Principle"); and, a Detailer is able to be well remunerated.]

And...Speaking of dreams:

I always enjoyed listening to Annie Lennox' refrains of:

"Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree"?
