Abjure (ab-joor)

Definition: give up

Source: Thesaurus.com

Even when the detailing gets tough, he/she must never abjure the job or task. Rather use it as a learning experience, even if it does not come out as well as they hoped. Just as long as there was technique and processes learned, the job was a success.

Apropos for love-making, of this I was cocksure.
But this moment of desire was soon to slip away

....with a hose...

I've experienced, and seen, firsthand, folks having boffo moments while sousing me with a waterhose.
But, more often than not, I too, joined in the kids' gaiety. Afterwards, we would all sat down to lunch together, sometimes to enjoy the sousemeat, (an example seen pictured below), and other delicacies and cold beverages, served by the "Lady of the House".

Back in the 80's, sousemeat was the cure all prep before applying the hair of the dog remedy after a long Friday night of whiskey and honky tonkin'. Come to think of it, it's been several years since I've partaken of either...sousemeat or whiskey.

Boffo times the 80's were.

For some odd reason; or, perhaps it's just related to my mulling-over some recent AGO threads...The word echelon came to mind.
Therefore I'll submit it as a "new word of the day" for 04.23.2012.

Echelon (éshə lòn)

Bing's Definition(s):
1.level in hierarchy: a level of authority or rank in an organization or system
2.aircraft formation with offset positions: a group of aircraft flying in positions behind and to one side of the aircraft in front
3.formation with offset positions: a formation in which individuals or units are positioned behind and to one side of those in front to give a stepped effect and allow each a clear view ahead

I've had folks ask me what is considered the best 'Last-Step-Product". That is, just exactly what determines that such a car-care product should be in the upper echelon out of all the LSP's available on the market today.
As it seems that many have pre-conceived ideas concerning this matter, I find it very difficult to appease these folks (My way, or the highway probably wouldn't go over well :D).

In order to: "Keep the Peace"...I find myself resorting to this Mike Phillips adage, and to paraphrase:

"Find something you like and use it often"

Though I do understand that AGO is an enthusiast forum, where persons are dedicated to research, product, tools, personalities, method, etc.; many of the noob mistakes often end in irreparable damage. That is people, the OP in particular, using all types of household and industrial products found on the shelves of their garages, to fix simple problems on their automobile.
Also, in their haste to rectify the situation, many will seek advice without a clear photo of their dilema. Or no photo at all.

After receiving many posts ensuring that "X" product, or its competitors, would fix the OP's problem, I wonder how many of said enthusiast have ever faced that particular problem (friends, family, neighbors). Or even witnessed it first hand by a hysterical customer seeking ones services.

The point that I am making here is how can one who has never used anything other than car care products, OTC, to start, then graduated to the use and performance of upper echelon products and principles, offer any chance of redemption to the OP? Educated guesses are about as useful as teats on a boar hog. If you are not now, or have ever been the type to use caustic industrial cleaners, and, or products; or know what the results of using said on automobiles are; then I suggest thinking it through before you post.

Now, another of my peeves are the OP's who admittedly destroyed an aspect of their cars finish, who receive various solutions, yet never report back on their findings of using suggested products or methods. I don't care one way or the other whose method is perceived to be right or wrong. I feel that the entire community is deprived of useful knowledge when the circle is not completed.

The level of my verbosity increases when I'm on a rant.

Must close now, household chores await on this wet, dreary Monday morning.

Happy detailing... :autowash:

Thank you to both of you for your intellectual insight and contributions! Your hypothesis have not fallen on deaf ears!
