Not Robin Williams

Missed for sure.

That guy could be as abrasive as George Carlin and the next minute have little kids and their parents cracking up.

Prayers to your family, Robin.

A poignant post, Bob. Jonathan Winters is who RW idolized. Miss them both.

I kept hoping it was a hoax. Pure acting and comedic genius. Another life taken too soon.

A sad day for those of us still alive to remember and appreciate Robin Williams...

As I watched the news on multiple channels and read through stories on various news sites the common theme repeated by the widest spectrum of people was nothing but kind words about the man himself, his work and they way he touched people's lives always with a positive influence.

I'm sad that he's no longer with us but he left this world a better place from having lived on this earth.

If we define success as having lived life by using your God-given talents to live life to the fullest while enriching the lives of others, then Robin Williams was a successful man. His work and accomplishments are his legacy and through his accomplishments he will continue to make people smile into eternity.

Lets all offer up prayers for his family and friends as they work through their time of grieving.

:(

I was pretty upset when I heard this...Mainly because it wasn't Oprah.

I grew up watching Mork and Mindy. Popeye was my favorite movie as a kid. His body of work spans generations and genres. He will be missed.

"Aahh, that's me squinky eye!" Popeye, trying to look thru knothole in fence with wrong eye...or "what is this, a house of ill repukes??" Ah...memories.

As an Orthodox Christian, we believe committing suicide is an unforgivable sin. You're purposely taking the life that God gave you. We don't know this for sure, of course, but if this happened to be true, these people committing suicide aren't doing themselves a favor. This is coming from a religious standpoint that very well might be true, and very well might not.

What's an orthodox christian? Never heard of it.
PS I never heard of an unforgiveable sin, if you believe in JC no such thing. But I'm not here to start a debate, I'm just saying. Why bring religion into this?

RIP Robin/Mork prayers with you and your family.

Orthodox Christian is very similar to Catholicism. We used to be one church.

That is a good point about JC and no unforgivable sin. I'm going to have to ask my priest about that. I'm curious.

It's all good, but the point of the OP's thread was condolences for Robin Williams and his family, nothing more.

RIP RW

Well, they are now saying that Robin Williams was in the early stages of Parkinson's disease, which at least partially explains his depression and suicide. At least it's a reason and makes it seem a little less senseless and tragic.

I also read he was low on money, and couple that with the Parkinson's, I can only imagine. Depression is the scariest, when you can't get your mind right, it affects everything!

I also read he was low on money

I thought I had posted this earlier in the thread, but I don't see it--I had read last year that the reason he was doing that TV show (which I have not seen) was because he needed the steady income; apparently his divorces had cost him a lot and he had been forced to downsize his residence (i.e., sell his ranch/estate/whatever and move to smaller digs).

It's funny how here's a guy universally acclaimed for his talent, been in umpteen successful movies, you would normally expect him to have more money than he knew what to do with. I don't know whether that's a lesson in how being talented and successful doesn't necessarily make you smart with money or insulate you from the vagaries of life (or addiction), or whether it's a lesson in how precarious all of our existences are.

I think the show was called "The Crazy Ones" I watched it a couple times and chuckled. He made $165,000 per episode from what I read. They had about 20 episodes I believe.

He was married and divorced 3 times, so that probably took a majority of his film profits away, like you noted.

Still crazy, he was filming Mrs Doubtfire 2. Sucks we won't see more funny.
